Biography

A Razi Rising (ages: 0 - 7)

Weeks prior to his birth Tigran’s eldest brother, Thorfinn Razi, turned eleven and didn’t receive a letter to Hogwarts revealing that he was a squib like their parents. The echo’s of which overshadowed what should have been the joyous occasion of Tigran’s birth. Echos that made his father’s depression a permanent fixture in Tigran’s childhood, and his older sisters try to push him and themselves into showing signs of magic.

Tigran spent his childhood watching his grandfather, Rupert Razi, orchestrate things for his immediate family due to his parents being squibs. With the exception of Tigran’s father, Lewis Razi the eldest of Rupert’s children, all of Rupert’s children were fully magical members of wizarding society currently holding jobs in the Ministry in prestigious positions that Rupert used his influence, due to being Head of the Razi family, to positioned them into. In order to further demonstrate his influence further Rupert got Tigran’s father a clerical position processing paperwork for the Portkey Office.

When Tigran was a toddler he showed his first sign of magic by sending baby gate he was pushing against flying across the room breaking a vase with the only witness being Gulag, the families house elf. Gulag, owned by Rupert, gave him extra cookies and put the gate back blaming the vase being broken on his nanny’s kneazle knocking it over. With Gulag only telling the true story to his grandfather Rupert.

Growing up his grandfather Rupert always favored Tigran over his siblings and his parents. This unexplained favoritism from Rupert, and Gulag by extension, made his father and sisters jealous. Tigran didn’t notice the jealousy as he relished the extra positive attention due to being overshadowed by his sisters attention wise with both the nannies and his parents.

Thankfully the house Tigran grew up in was outside the city of Southend-on-Sea on the shore with slight cliffs outside separating him from the water so he happily spent most of his early childhood playing in the sea under the watchful eye of Gulag. As with the exception of his parents who left the house for work, his grandfather had the rest of them kept at home with the nannies and tutors coming to their house.

An Identity Divided (ages 7-11)

He felt the tides shift rather suddenly when the second of his older sisters didn’t get Hogwarts letter. When his eldest sister, Emika, didn’t get a Hogwarts letter two years prior it was just a change in nannies for them all. So he was surprised when his other sister Avery, who was two years younger than Emika, didn’t get a letter and immediately his grandfather sent off both his sisters to a boarding school meant for squibs. For all the questions he asked about his sisters being sent away, all his grandfather told him was he choose to wait till they both didn’t get a letter to send them together. Even odder to Tigran was the fact that Thorfinn who’d graduated and his grandfather had arranged a job for at a London muggle bank the year prior would never tell him or his parents about the school he was sent to or the fake identity he was working under.

With his sisters gone he got a new nanny named Clementine and for the first time he was to be taught outside the home - even his siblings had never been taught outside the home prior to being sent away. Clementine enrolled him in a muggle primary school a few months before he turned eight with a fake identity of Reginald Ivansko who was two years older than him. The muggle school he was sent to was located in the Shaftesbury Estate neighborhood in the Battersea area of South London with the majority of his fellow students coming from working class families. The academic part of the adjustment was easy as he’d had tutors his whole life, but integrating socially was difficult as he’d not been around other kids besides his siblings, and rarely extended family. Thankfully, he quickly made a friend Luca Owain who he became close to and helped him adjust to both the neighborhood and the school.

Tigran was still a Razi and still lived in the wizarding world when he took the floo home from the house Clementine had in the neighborhood that they pretended they lived in. With Clementine pretending that she was his mother whom many assumed to be a prostitute. Which resulted in when he ended up locked out of the house Clementine had in the neighborhood and sleeping over his friend Luca's house on occasion it was quickly dismissed as Clementine being flighty.

It didn’t take Tigran long in his lower working class primary school, even two years younger than his classmates, to find himself academically at the top of his class. Both Tigran and Luca got such high scores on their 11-plus exams that they were propelled into the rigorous grammar school admission process in which the scholarships they earned were largely in part due to mimic’ing Tigran’s pureblood prat cousins attitudes which pleased the admission committees. The fact that Tigran managed to propel himself from a neighborhood primary school where all the parents were lower working class working at the docks, railroads, or at Battersea Power Station to the prestigious grammar school he got himself into was such a shock to Clementine that it was the higher quality cufflinks on his new school uniform that made her ask questions.

The more time he spent living the identity of Reginald Ivansko the less he knew who Tigran Razi even was though his grammar school gave him a poise that made his Rupert proud. The best Tigran could come up with at one of his Rupert’s events for an introduction was the following “ I’m Tigran Razi and I’ll be starting Hogwarts in a year and a half like my cousin. My mother works as a potion masters assistant which I think is rather neat because of how magic can be channeled thru potion making. Which makes me excited to learn more about applications of magic when I go to Hogwarts and get my own wand. “ An introduction that was just words as he had little expectation he’d be going to Hogwarts even if, unlike his siblings, his Grandfather had him accompany him walking around during his events to mingle with representatives of other pureblood families.

Besides Rupert’s events his only other interaction with the wizarding world was when he joined his lower class cousins, due to his parents being squibs, to be toughened up and learn his expected role in the Razi family business. Most the training was basic like how to handle interrogations, identifying exit paths based on looking at maps, and some basic survival skills. The most memorable, and last, training exercise he was a part of involved the release of a boggart of a dementor in front of him and his cousins with them being coached to clear their mind or think about something boring. When he asked Rupert, his grandfather, a few weeks after the exercise if that was how his dad felt with his depression he didn’t get an answer. However, his grandfather had him pulled from such training like the rest of his immediate cousins who were considered higher class within the family.

Tigran accepted he wouldn’t be getting a Hogwarts letter on his eleventh birthday as he knew he hadn’t shown any signs of magic. He had a place in a muggle grammar school with a bright future and dreams of going to Oxford to become a doctor. Furthermore, he was certain he could convince his grandfather to let him stay where he was, and not sent away like his siblings had been, as he was top of his class at a prestigious grammar school that even Clementine was shocked he’d gotten into. As one thing spending time in the muggle world had taught him was it couldn’t be the fact his parents were squibs had his grandfather arranging things for his immediate family - it must be his father’s issues with depression. As the reality was, he knew muggles far more capable and smarter than his parents and a good number of the magically inclined members of his extended family.

When Tigran’s eleventh birthday arrived he quickly reached for the presents and cookies on the table ignoring the plain letter that was quickly grabbed up by his family’s house elf Gulag, who had the happiest expression Tigran had ever seen before disappearing with a pop. It was minutes later as Tigran was happily opening a birthday card he saw his Grandfather appear with a pop and the biggest smile he’d ever seen. The rest of the day was a blur of celebration. Even his father seemed happy, and he didn’t care that he suspected his grandfather pointed a wand at him to make him that way.

A few days after his eleventh birthday he was sent to live his father’s younger half-brother Thurston’s family. As his grandfather wanted him to have a better example of how proper Razi’s lived and to study with the tutors that his cousin a year younger had. He didn’t get to thank Clementine, nor did he get to say goodbye to Luca or any of the other people he knew when he lived as Reginald Ivansko in the muggle world. As he was smart enough to know that if he snuck back when he wasn’t allowed anyone he cared about in the muggle world would likely be obliviated - or worse.

He wasn’t oblivious to his uncle, Thurston, and aunt, Régine, coaching their daughter Pénélope in maintaining superiority over those who were lesser using him as an example. It wasn’t the first time he’d heard such coaching in his life and played his part to maintain the delusion his cousin Pénélope was succeeding in being superior. A task made more complicated by the fact Pénélope’s tutor was near drill sergeant with her desire to prepare them both for Hogwarts and Pénélope hardly knew how to focus in lessons. He was smart enough to pretend that he was only tutored at home by a second rate tutors and to ensure in all comparisons Pénélope that she seemed smarter than him.

Hogwarts (ages 11-14)

When Tigran arrived at Hogwarts he was sorted in Ravenclaw to the great surprise of his family. To him it was a great relief. As even if he thought he’d be a natural Hufflepuff he didn’t want to be in the same house as his pureblood prat cousin Brutus. As for Slytherin he was happy to not have to join a just sorted Pénélope, and the large number of other cousins he had in that house.

As a first year, Tigran had an easy time with the non-magical applications part of classes, but it took him longer to cast a successful spell than most of his classmates resulting in the nickname squibby following him to the castle. The biggest surprise that he had at Hogwarts was what professors allowed antics wise in the classrooms and the fact that it was acceptable to wear messy wrinkled uniforms to class. While his grammar school experience went unsaid, it influenced how he approached classes at Hogwarts and ensured his uniforms were properly ironed and creased before classes.

As he started to get his academic bearings he heard from his eldest sister that their parents were using his grades as part of the negotiations to marry her off to an older slug of a man. His reaction to that was to start to tank his grades hoping to make himself look worse, thus his sisters not as good a prospect. It was the least he could do for making his father more depressed when he came back from Hogwarts during his first winter break and was showing off his wand excitedly with happy ramblings about Hogwarts.

At the end of his second year he let his grades rise slightly purely as he wanted to go to summer camp and not spend the summer with his cousins who didn’t meet the academic mark with tutors like the summer prior. Before Tigran got to go to summer camp, Rupert pulled him to the side and explained that things were set up for him to take care of his immediate family upon Rupert’s death. To Tigran’s surprise, Rupert felt his influence was weakening as Head of the Razi family which combined with his age of 110 meant he needed to arrange his affairs as accidents were prone to happen with others desiring the title. For the first time in Tigran’s life when he asked why he was sitting in his father’s place the fact his father was a squib wasn’t the main reason, instead it was the that his father worked for the Ministry which had a bunch of mind-readers called Legilimens. With the true reason his father couldn’t be told was his grandfather was setting it up for his sisters to be able to disappear and integrate into muggle society after his death by sending them to America.

He entered his third year with the responsibility for his family on his shoulders unable to mention it to anyone. Furthermore, it fueled him to try to impress his grandfather as he not only entered dueling as he was told to but attempted to study it so he’d succeed - he didn’t.

Abandonment (ages 14-17)

When he arrived home from Hogwarts at the end of his third year he was informed that his older sisters, and brother all died towards the end of term in a car accident in America. His anger towards his mother as she deemed him being undistracted from his end of year exams more important than telling him after it happened was the only thing that overshadowed any guilt he had for agreeing with his grandfather’s recommendation that his sisters go to America. It took Tigran only days of being home after school ended to realize he couldn’t deal with staying home for the summer and helping his mother out in dealing with his father plummeting into one of the worst depressions he’d ever seen. So Tigran went to camp as planned and served as a camp counselor and hung out with his friends having a good summer. A good summer that came to a halt days after he came home from camp with his parents taking a trip to visit his mothers family in Japan, and hours later his house elf Gulag handing him a bag and telling him to run without looking back. The problem was he did look back and he saw there was definitely someone who’d entered the house with spells being cast about to which he truly ran. With his running leading him to South London and the identity of Reginald Ivansko and to his muggle best friend Luca's house.

While he couldn't tell Luca or Luca's family about Hogwarts they still helped him get school supplies from muggle second-hand stores, or found around the Owain house. Tigran ended up leaving for Hogwarts with a backpack, and an old Army duffle with the last name Owain on it, which was covered up quickly. A scuffle with Brutus resulted in his cousin breaking his wand before the opening feast even started. Then shockingly he was named prefect which was a surprise, especially since he had no idea if arrangements even had been made before his parent's dipped for him to return to Hogwarts. His initial reaction to returning to Hogwarts without the things he was used to was to steal things, but that was nipped in the bud during the first day of classes when he was caught taking extra crystals in divination by Willow Foxglove. Seeing her reaction, even if she technically didn’t state to just take one, made him realize just how he was reacting like his criminal Razi relatives. In that moment he resolved that he wasn’t going to lower himself to the level of his criminal relatives and going to take accountability for his actions instead of hiding behind excuses like his situation.

It was when he got a new wand a month into term, and Jasper Spellbody saw he realized he had a true friend in the other boy as he’d noticed him using a stick but hadn’t said anything. It was similar to what he’d of done for his friend Luca - or vice versa. It was a moment that made him realize that he actually had friends in the wizarding world and made him start opening up a little more towards his classmates.

Not that he’d tell any of his friends the troubles he had, like when he went back for winter break and his parents didn’t pick him up at the platform resulting in him ending up living with Luca’s family for winter break and getting a job at Battersea Power Plant alongside his friend. Instead he talked of frivolous problems like his nervousness about being injured in dueling. A nervousness that culminated with him getting into finals that term and tossing love potions at his opponents before getting knocked out. His whole goal of dueling wasn’t to win it was to impress his grandfather Rupert. His grandfather Rupert died soon after the dueling finals, and the last letter he wrote to Tigran prior to his death was about how pitiful his potions had been and weak he was on the block. A letter that went unmentioned to his friends. Also unmentioned was the fact that everything his grandfather said about him inheriting his childhood home to take care of his family upon his grandfather’s death being wrong as his step-grandmother predictably changed the paperwork cutting his immediate family out of it - and later using his childhood home as safe house for the more criminal elements of the Razi family.

After his fourth year he returned to London for summer break ending up in a muggle group home under his former identity of Reginald Ivansko, who was two years older than him and freshly turned seventeen. That summer he started working on the railroad as a ticket collector, occasional jobs on the docks, and as a janitor in multiple businesses in London with his favorite being bars and clubs - he even got to bartend a few times. He got to reconnect with the friends he used to have in the muggle world and make more friends as he spent his summer dancing and snogging boys when he had a night off of work. The few friends he had at Hogwarts weren’t enough to make him consider returning to the wizarding world as he knew that his extended family would ensure he’d have zero opportunities and likely end up pulled into something that sent him to Azkaban.

His plans of just settling in the muggle world ended quickly one night when timing of the Spirits Division investigating frequent hauntings of the docks he worked at happened to coincided with him getting overwhelmed by the ghosts which they observed. The reaction of the Spirits Division workers was to grab him, even when he said he was fine, claiming he had a mental break to explain it the muggles nearby as they hauled him off. He was tossed into St. Mungos due to his negative reaction resulting from his oversensitivity to ghosts that gave him debilitating headaches. When his parents were unreachable he was put into the custody of Ministry of Magic. Which resulted in him being sent to the Hogsmeade Children’s Home for his last days of summer before his fifth year began, and being assigned a rubbishy corrupt social worker named Herbert Gwynn.

Tigran’s fifth year started with a crash in the form of him crashing a thestral driven carriage that he’d gotten to fly with Parker McCormick, Kora Burke, and Will Rose in the compartment into one of the greenhouses. Parker had recruited him for his ability to see thestrals, but even if it was Parker’s idea he blamed himself for the carriage crashing with everyone getting injured. With everything else going on with him, the crash was less significant to Tigran than the others as the detentions were just a time sink not something he cared about as there was no one receiving any letters Hogwarts sent home.

Instead his focus during term was on himself and beginning his research on the magical mind. His main interest was trying to control his reactions to ghosts so he couldn’t be overwhelmed by them like he was at the end of summer which lead him to become interested in learning occlumency. This desire had him research various professor’s libraries such as Professor Kara and Professor Amberghast as well as any books he could get from the Hogwarts library. As he believed that being able to either suppress or shut out his ability to hear ghosts would make it so they couldn’t overwhelm him and he’d have a better shot of surviving in the muggle world.

At the last minute he just headed to the Hogwarts Express to head back to London for the winter break. He hastily handed his wand to his friend Jasper on the train and decided to go hang with friends in muggle London as he figured it had to be better than being alone at Hogwarts. While his friend Luca’s parents let him stay over the nights surrounding Christmas, as a dose of tough love they said he had to find somewhere to spend the rest of the break himself. That dose of tough love resulted in him spending his break living in an abandoned warehouse with some kids who were homeless and kicked out of the group home he spent the summer in. While he didn’t mention that to Luca or Luca’s family, or anyone at Hogwarts it drove Tigran to resolve to do anything he could to prevent being homeless again - especially in winter as he hated the cold.

He returned from winter break in his fifth year with a sense of determination to figure out how to survive without the help of others, and a lot less care of what people thought about him. It was with that lack of care about others opinions that he started dating Erin Clarke, his best friend, whom he’d had a crush on since the ball in his fourth year. Having feelings and dating Erin was very different than his experiences prior with people which was just begin the guy people snogged for a fun time which he’d enjoyed. His feelings for Erin drove him to stand up to his pureblood prat cousins who had major issues with him dating a half blood resulting in more than one series of hallway taunts that resulted in him hexing them - often with Limax. As even if his cousin Brutus was dating a halfblood in Kora, it seemed that the majority of his cousins desired to use him as the example insulting him publicly - with the odd exception of Pénélope.

The combination of his own oversensitivity to ghosts, and dating Erin putting him at dangerous odds with his extended family motivated him to research occlumency with more determination resulting in him breaking into the restricted section of the library with Jasper and Marissa-Jean Billings to get more books on the subject. As simply he realized that he needed to be able to control his own mind to remove that as an exploitable weakness from the options his extended family to gain leverage over him. Research that was barely interrupted by him taking his OWLs and for once not tanking his scores resulting in him getting a very high set of scores that he hoped would remain a secret.

After his fifth year instead of returning to London, he went to the Hogsmeade Children’s Home deciding to give the wizarding world a slight chance as he wanted to spend his summer with his girlfriend Erin at Summer Camp. The catch was he couldn’t ignore the treatment that the kids with the same neglectful social worker he had were getting and ended up talking to an Auror Lysander Stone turning in his social worker for incompetence and theft of the money that was supposed to be used to take care of them. The majority of his summer was spent at the Summer Camp with a couple of afternoons a week him getting to go to St. Mungos for an internship where he often followed around Healer Edmund Whiteclaw, whom he looked up to. At the end of summer his first social worker was rightfully fired, and he ended up with Tim Winchester as his new social worker.

His sixth year compared to all his other years in the castle was rather unremarkable. In the first quidditch game of the year he finally got to use his quidditch safety net in a quidditch saving Nael Al-Azma after years of sitting on the sidelines with it. The only remarkable thing that happened was in late February he broke up with Erin which sent him into a spiral of depression immediately afterwards. The thing that pulled him out of it wasn’t his friends, but it was the realization that he was acting as pitiful as his father did which was a low he refused to allow himself to become. So again he threw himself into his research on the magical mind to distract himself from his own emotions.

Independence (ages 17+)

His seventeenth birthday passed quietly which was a huge relief to him. Tigran was nervous that aging out of the system would have him kicked out of the castle. While he had a plan for how he'd approach homelessness with a wand he was more than happy he didn't have to implement it. Instead he got to finish his sixth year out at Hogwarts. Then with the help of Tim Winchester, his social worker, he got a room in wizarding London for the summer to live in while he worked an internship at St. Mungos. An internship that didn't fully occupy his time so also got a job as a bartender in the Snake Pit to get a little money that wasn't as traceable incase of emergency. As even if things were starting to work out, he still struggled to let himself truly trust people help him knowing how many times he'd just been left out to dry. With what spare time he had over the summer he continued his research into the magical mind, and helped his friend Jasper develop products for Jasper's prank shop Jasper's Jollies.

What will his seventh year hold... Who knows but it will be a fun ride...

  • If not, there is always a fun tale to read on a wrapper of a Jasper's Jollies product of his adventures under the name Hank. ( Most of those tales are just marketing...)
