Biography:

March 1955

As he walked down the hallway to his father’s sentencing holding his crying mother’s hand he reflected on all the lessons his father taught him.  The lesson that was in the forefront of his mind was how one always stood by ones family, and there was nothing more important.  It was the lesson his father lived by, and was behind most of the charges levied against him today.

His mother’s dreams to continue the performance traditions of her family were the source of many of the manipulation related crimes against muggles.  It was a non-traditional circus act that spanned both muggle and magical audiences that was falling out of favor for both over the last decades all over Europe.  Apparently most of the muggle donors were donating under false pretenses put in there head due to a well aimed imperius curse.  In his mind it was harmless.  After all the chosen donors were loaded, and it was better than the tactics used for the wizarding donors to get there money.  Many of the wizarding donors had an understanding of what his fathers other’s job was ,and knew donating a few galleons would make him only pretend to pressure them into things they’d cave into anyways for his grandfather.

His mother’s dreams were balanced as an almost cover for the aspirations of his grandfather Thomas Razi II.  Aspirations which were based on controlling business interests and selling contraband goods that stocked the shelves of Knockturn Alley.  It was amazing how boxes of equipment were perfect for smuggling goods, and the travel covered well for business meetings that one didn’t want to have to look for an alibi for why someone was some place.

Then the trial begun.  It was a haze of expected charges, and accusations.  A handful of which he knew his father was guilty of as they had been lessons to him.  As it was expected he’d follow in his fathers footsteps in the family business as an enforcer of contracts. He ignored them and just was waiting until the actual sentence was announced.  It wouldn’t be the kiss, his father wasn’t caught for everything after all.

Then the last charge rung through his ears.  His father was charged with manipulating ministry records altering the blood status of his mothers family from halfblood to pureblood.  He couldn’t contain himself and shouted “That’s a lie! “ Years of being taught about pureblood superiority, and knowing even if his side of the family didn’t have reputation they had that.

Or more accurately he had that.

He felt like he was losing everything in that moment as the ministry official grabbed him and pulled him away from his mother to remove him from the room.  Even worse his mother stayed still as if she was petrified by the words of the court.

Five Days Later

He wasn’t even allowed in the courtroom this time.  Instead he stood outside next to his uncle Oliver who had removed himself from the case due to it involving his brother.  Still his uncle wouldn’t tell him anything, proving yet again he was more loyal to the Ministry than his own family.  Then it was over and people started walking out of the room, and his mother walked out with an Auror on each side of her.

He was confused and all his mother muttered between tears was “ Two years. Promise you’ll write. “  As she was pulled roughly past him.

Turning towards his uncle he could see that Oliver was surprised.  Desperate he asked “ I’ll be staying with you right? “  Seeing his uncle Oliver’s face fall he knew it was just going to get worse.  Oliver said “ Sorry no.  Arrangements have been made for you until Hogwarts starts next year. “

He had nothing.  The circus had dissolved months ago.  His parents were in Azkaban.  He was a halfblood which meant besides Oliver he’d been disowned by his family.  His only slightly passable talent was being a clown, and that was more out of necessity than him having any skill for it.

He turned and angerly punched the wall and let out huff.  Which just resulted in blood running around his aching hand as his uncle pushed him off to another official after casting a quick healing spell that dimmed the pain but did nothing for the bruising.

Months later

Most people his age probably were phased when they got uprooted from one place to move to a completely different one.  Not Basil.  What did phase him was the fact that months later he still had no grounding even if he had found a few friends.  The first of which was made over a handshake, and he cemented by ensuring said friend didn’t look weak by loaning him a fake wand. Others were random individuals he’d met at camp that had nothing in common with him, but had the fortunate similarity of not annoying him, and not appearing weak.  Though he was always more than happy to help fix appearances of weakness.

Part of him thought the idea of him going to Hogwarts would just be a convenient location to put a kid that no one wanted.  After all, the greater Razi family didn’t want him as they couldn’t prove his blood status - they were supposedly working on it.  His parents still couldn’t have him as they were in Azkaban.  The people from the circus he thought were his friends and family growing up wouldn’t even respond to his owls.

Perhaps he’d find grounding with the individuals in one of those odd houses at Hogwarts.  One of the girls from camp described her housemates in Hufflepuff as practically family.  Though he’d had practically family before and they didn’t respond to his owls now so he wasn’t putting any stock into that.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY. - Option I:

"H-h-hello?”

He was looking from some silence as his common room was louder than he really wanted to deal with at the moment.  For someone who had always been surrounded by noise the one good thing about Hogwarts was the ability to find silence.  Maybe if he ignored whomever it was they’d go away.  He was tucked behind a corner, as looking around he couldn’t see anyway in the hallway he was on.

Of course, for all he knew if he illuminated the hallway she could be much farther down it, but the voice sounded quiet from uncertainty not distance to his ears.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?”

He shook his head.  When coming to a new place one it was always best to make a few allies, and have an idea of the big details.  At Hogwarts one of those big details were rumors of ghosts, as any rumored ghost could be a troublesome poltergeist.  With a sigh he said “ The dungeons aren’t a place for ghost hunting. “
