Biography:

If you are applying to be a first, second, or third year, your biography must be at least one hundred words long.
If you are applying to be a fourth year or above, your biography must be at least three hundred words long.

Chloe Young, eldest of the three Young girls, was born and raised on the cliffs overlooking the seaside village of Clovelly. Her mother (a muggle) and father (a wizard) lead a quiet, mundane life their modest cobblestone cottage, where the family tends to thriving gardens and gentle animals together. A rather solitary girl, Chloe prefers to keep to herself, and most enjoys reading, baking with her mother, and helping to tend the vegetables and herbs. She spends most of her time with her two sisters, exploring the nearby cliffs and beaches.

Magic did not factor into Chloe's life until the age of 9, at which point her father, Joseph, (occasionally noticing signs of the unrestrained magic of children) told her about Hogwarts. Chloe, being an imaginative child, had little difficulty understanding the reality that her father presented to her. Perplexing her parents, however, is Chloe's recent reluctance to see herself as a witch. To them, she does not seem particularly excited by the prospect of going to Hogwarts, even as September 1st draws nearer; in fact, she is rather unsettled.

Truthfully, Chloe has very little exposure to magic, despite having a wizard for a father. Many years ago, Joseph eschewed his own family's expectations by settling down in a muggle village, with a muggle wife, and the muggle job of deep sea fishing- he found that he preferred the simplicity of physical labour and the mundane world. He uses magic subtly and infrequently, such that Chloe still doesn't completely understand what it is and what it means to wield it.

As the summer comes to a close, a persistent nervousness has settled into Chloe's thoughts. Soon, her mother and father will take her to the city to prepare for the year ahead, and then- everything Chloe knows will be left behind.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Hufflepuff

Personality:

Tell us a bit about your character’s personality (likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) What are they like on a good day versus a bad one? Is your character particularly cheerful? Do they hate sunlight?

A sheltered childhood in Clovelly has made Chloe a quiet, thoughtful girl. She most enjoys solitary activities (reading, crafting, gardening) and spending time with her family. She feels very deeply, and so whether she is happy or sad, her emotions rule her. She is naturally nurturing and enjoys creative pursuits and caring for others. She has a gentle spirit that belies her age.

Chloe can become withdrawn if she feels challenged, as she is rather defensive and protective of herself. She prefers familiar people and environments, and is prone to nervousness and insecurity even with small change.

Appearance:

Briefly describe your character's appearance (hair color, build, stature, etc.) What effect does it have on their personality? For example, does the shy Ravenclaw girl secretly dye her hair black because she hates her natural blonde? Does the curly-haired Gryffindor use charms to hide his freckles?

Chloe is slightly tall for her age, with a rather willowy frame. She has blue eyes, fair skin with light freckles to the bridge of her nose, and straight, straw coloured hair which falls to her mid-back. Ultimately, she is rather plain looking. Her face features the full cheeks and wide eyes of a child, and her emotions play readily across her face. There is a cautiousness to the way she moves.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Chloe was starting to panic.

The crowd outside the Great Hall after lunch had completely turned her around. She'd intended to go to her next class, Charms, however she somehow found herself in what she could only assume were the castle dungeons. The other students, gone either to class or to their common rooms, cleared quickly, leaving Chloe utterly lost and alone.

The torches on the wall cast long, dark shadows all around, and air felt unnaturally still. A terrible smell reached out to her and made her dizzy with fear. A fine sweat broke along her brow.

From somewhere down the corridor, Chloe heard footfall, inching closer and closer. Flee, her body screamed at her. Spinning to run in the opposite direction, Chloe tripped over her own feet, falling hard to the damp stone.

"Oof-!" The impact was stunning.

Even nearer now, Chloe could make out a girl's voice calling out, as her vision returned to her. Fear took over, and despite herself, tears came hot and fast.

"Help!" she sobbed.
