Biography: (100 words minimum.)

It wasn’t until Roberta turned eleven that her parents had to entertain an idea that they had not wanted to face. The dirty rumor that had circled many a family gathering: that the only thing separating their only daughter from the muggles was a name. Her father paced the room. Her mother fainted. Her brothers poked her with their wands and called her names that made her father yell so loudly, threatening to bring down all the hexes of Merlin upon their heads if they ever spoke of it again, that a huge vein in his neck bulged out. Roberta only sat, listening as they fought over her fate and staring at that vein.

It was finally decided that the family would tell everyone Roberta had been sent away to an elite and extremely private all girls’ charms school for exceptionally gifted witches. In reality, she was meant to stay at home, retreating to some out of the way spot when there were visitors, and keep herself occupied. This was life sentence.

To say Roberta was disappointed with her lot in life would have been an understatement. Although she had never used magic, facing a lifetime without it seemed a bleak and unbearable fate. She was also not content to sit idly by and grow old in her parents’ home. About six months into her new life, she discovered that the outside doors to the cellar where unlocked and overlooked on a regular basis. She has since used this as a means to escape her home whenever she has the opportunity.  She often dresses in her brothers’ clothes for these excursions as well, so as not to raise the suspicions that a girl alone likely would.

Living in a magical world without magic is hard. Things that other people manage easily, she has to work twice as hard to accomplish. Some things - riding a broom on her own, dueling - she can't do at all though she sees them happening around her. She has no real way to defend herself, and some dangers, such as dementors, she can't even see. She isn’t expected to be able to marry. Neither she nor her family has the faintest idea of how she would go about joining the muggle community though the option has been considered.

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

She was ready.

She stood at the edge of the field, a skinny figure in boy’s trousers stared at boys overhead. She chewed her lip nervously. Roberta had every excuse in the book (broom broken, no fly advisory by the healers) right on the tip of her tongue as she waited, hoping they would ask her to join. The seeing as how her broom was broken and she couldn’t fly, perhaps they would consent to making the game a little more interesting.

Namely removing the brooms altogether. Catching a snitch was hard. Catching a snitch without a broom was even harder, and a much better test of stamina, ability, and manliness. She puffed out her chest, already feeling every bit of the glory she would make known on the no-fly pitch.

The other boys took no notice of her, and flew on by. Roberta’s fingers curled into fists.

"...Do you want to play?"

In truth, she did not. However, having felt the sting of being ignored as sure as the other girl had also been, Roberta didn't have the heart say no. She well knew what dealing with older brothers was like

“Sure. What you want play, sis?”
