Biography: Martin Haroldson was born on October 12 in the town of Farnham in Surrey. His father, James Haroldson moved to Farnham and became a Police Officer with the Surrey Police Force shortly after the Second World War. Due to his father’s service in the War and career in law enforcement, Martin grew up in a rather ordinary, if not slightly strict, household. Indeed, young Martin could have lived a mundane and quiet life had it not been for the wizarding blood flowing through his veins.
 
Within only a few months of Martin’s birth strange things began occurring within the Haroldson house. As a baby, Martin made the entire house shake when his crying was ignored. One other notable instance was the time Martin caused an expensive chandelier to explode during a heated dinnertime argument. While Martin took note of many strange occurrences like these he was too busy learning, playing, and growing like any young boy to wonder why these things had happened.

However, an explanation did come one day in the form of a strangely dressed man bearing a sealed letter. Both of Martin’s parents were naturally quite confused when they found out that Martin was no ordinary boy, but a Wizard and that he was also to attend a school called Hogwarts to learn the use of Magic. However, after a lengthy conversation, Martin’s parents at least acted like they were comfortable with their son’s abilities. Although naturally nervous about entering an entire new world, Martin is also quite excited to learn to use Magic and more about wizarding culture in general.

Personality: Martin is a very eager and cheerful person. While attending muggle schools Martin would always strike up a conversation with anyone who had the time to talk. Martin likes to think that he has a great number of friends but does not really spend all of his time with one small group of people, preferring to be on open and friendly terms with as many people as he can; of course at Hogwarts, Martin will not know any of the other students but it should not pose a problem due to his friendly nature.

Due to his upbringing, Martin follows and even helps to enforce the rules 99% of the time. However, if he believes a rule is unjust he will stand against it, but it may take some time to convince him to take action. Martin will also never manipulate or abuse anyone just to get ahead. He is also fiercely loyal to his friends and would do almost anything for them, save breaking the rules. Martin also has little time for bullies and tends to shrug off insults and knows that should he ever come into any serious trouble many of the people he has shown kindness to will help bail him out.

Finally, while he is not a particularly bright student, Martin wishes to learn all he can about using his magical gifts in order to help as many people as he can. Also, while not a great athlete Martin has always loved sports and may even try out for his House Quidditch team once he learns enough about the sport itself.

Appearance: Martin is of average build and slightly short for his age as neither of his parents were particularly tall. He has brown hair that is kept at a medium length and styled conservatively, the way his father always had told him to wear his hair. Martin also has light hazel eyes and usually has a welcoming smile on his face, especially when meeting new people or learning new things about magic.

As with his hair, when out of school uniform, Martin sticks to a conservative style of dress, usually a t-shirt and jeans and a jacket if it is cold. He will never wear anything too outlandish as it goes against how he was brought up. Martin will always keep a neat and clean appearance and believes that everyone else should as well, although he is too friendly to tell anyone else that.

Sample Roleplay Response: Martin was on his way back from the library as he had just finished reading up on a few ingredients and potions mentioned by the Potions Master that day during class. One of Martin’s favorite activities was to research further into anything that caught his interest during lectures. Even though he sometimes did not grasp everything within his books, he wanted to learn as much as he could about anything magical, believing it would make him a better wizard one day.

Now, with his reading finally over, Martin took to another of his favorite pastimes: exploring the castle and grounds. Having never heard anything about Hogwarts prior to receiving his letter, Martin was enthralled by the ancient castle and wanted to learn as much about it as he could, at least within the areas he was allowed to venture. No, Martin would never think of sneaking into restricted areas as they were made restricted for a reason and he certainly did not wish to get into any trouble.

Just as he was about to turn another corner, Martin heard footsteps behind him and then a shout.

“Hey, wait up! It’s for the paper!”

Martin turned to face the voice and saw that it was a girl running up to him. Martin smiled, happy to meet someone new, but before he could even greet the girl she posed a question to him.

“What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

From her running, Martin thought that he might have been asked a more important question but he decided to answer anyways as it was only polite.

“Well, my dad told me once he had some while he was in France,” Martin started. His eyes glanced around while he tried to remember what his father had thought of them and what sort of opinion he should have of them. “He told me they weren’t too bad, but I don’t think I’d like to try them, but if the school wants to serve them, then I have no problems with it. Oh, my name is Martin by the way, Martin Haroldson and what’s your name?” asked Martin. He was never one to miss out on an opportunity to get to know somebody.
