Biography:
Rules don’t apply to us.

That’s what my parents have always told me.

I was seven when I realised that my parents didn’t have conventional jobs. I knew they both enjoyed counting money because that’s what I saw them doing every evening. I liked to help sometimes, happily stacking gold coins on top of eachother, not truly knowing their significance. I knew that one day I would take over the family business even though I didn’t quite know the details. I just assumed that I would count money all day as an adult.

I first became suspicious when Dad said I should start telling people that we were from France. It made no sense to me as I knew perfectly well that he was English and we had never even visited France. But I trusted him, and lying about even the most basic facts became second nature to me. By the time we moved to Germany and my father had begun speaking with a thick French accent, I had already crafted a wonderful backstory about growing up on a farm in the French countryside. No one suspected a thing and my parents made me feel like I was the smartest girl in the world.

From then on, every country we moved to, we had a different backstory. When we moved to Italy, we told everyone we had moved from Vietnam. My Swiss father had met my Vietnamese mother while backpacking through Southeast Asia and had decided to settle there once I was born. None of this was true, of course, but I learned enough Vietnamese words to keep the lie going.

When we moved to New York, my mother was a wealthy Singaporean heiress who loved to travel with her Norwegian businessman husband. And I was their perfect little child. I loved writing down our stories, changing the plot every time we relocated. Traveling the world was exciting, but getting to reinvent myself every time was even more fun. And every single night I would watch my parents grin while counting their money.

I was ten when I realised that they were stealing. It was a slow realisation but suddenly everything made sense - the fake names, the fake background stories, the fact that we would pack up and leave at a moment's notice. Fraud was funding our luxurious lifestyle and this had been the case for a very long time. I stayed silent, listened to my parents, and continued to play the perfect child for whatever scheme they had cooked up this time.

A few months later, they said it was time for me to get a real education to prepare me for life. You had to be very smart to pull off what they had been doing for years and I needed to go to school to learn the ropes. So I was enrolled at Hogwarts under my real name - Elodie Gao Garnier, otherwise known as ‘trouble.’

But I can’t help that; it’s in my bloodline.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Roleplay Response:

The gardens were supposed to be a place for peace and quiet. Unfortunately, that was not the case today.

Sitting on the lawn and quietly reading a textbook about dragons, Elodie was rudely interrupted by an older boy who looked incredibly distressed. Her eyes rested on the edge of her book before peering over at the boy sniffling and stumbling like an absolute fool. Elodie felt embarrassed on his behalf but could not bring herself to look away. He was more entertaining than her book, after all.

She kept straight-faced as he stopped to look at her. She wasn’t trying to intimidate him but someone needed to make him feel a little embarrassed so he wouldn’t behave in such a gross way in public again.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

She blinked, still giving her best poker face.

“I think you’re the one who needs help.”

Elodie sighed, deciding that since she had the upper hand in this situation, there was no need to further humiliate them.

“Look, I can help you find your rat.” She dropped her book on the ground, rose to her feet, and dusted herself off. “But you’ve got to promise to be nice to me while I’m helping you.”
