Biography:
Holly Foxglove had had a rough start in life. Her mother had passed when the little girl was only two days old and her father hadn’t been too far behind. A few difficult months and a bout of pneumonia later, Holly had a brief stint in the Hogsmeade Children’s Home before Penélope Weber appeared and swept the little girl and her two older brothers away into a world of academia and constant travelling. After a few years of drama and discovery, the small family had settled in Hogsmeade - the only home that Holly had ever really known.

These days, it was difficult to imagine living anywhere except in the big old house in Hogsmeade. Holly had been far too young for any of those early misadventures to leave any real scars, so she rarely thought of where she really came from. All she knew was that she had two older brothers (three, if you counted Eddie, which she absolutely did), an aunt that was not to be disturbed when she reading or resting (which was most days, to be honest) and more toys than she knew what to do with.

There was also the room at the very top of the stairs that had wooden floors and a massive skylight. She wasn’t allowed to sleep up there on her own and whenever she was permitted to play under the skylight, she had to shuffle around in her socks because all of her bouncing gave Auntie headaches.

Though she kept most of her favourite things in the large hardwood cupboard that stood against the wall, her tea set stayed downstairs in her own room. The tiny cups and saucers were so delicate, and the thought of one of them breaking was so terrible that Holly only ever dared to use it up there when Aldie, Robbie or Eddie did all the carrying for her. It was just a pity that none of them were around much anymore. Maybe, once she got to Hogwarts, she wouldn’t have to be quiet or alone so much of the time.

House Request: Hufflepuff, please!

Though not particularly patient, Holly has developed a dogged persistence that has served her very well over the years. She is more than happy to graft for long hours to hone her skills - even when things are more difficult than she originally guessed.

Holly is very rarely alone by choice. She’s found a way to entertain herself through her hobbies, either by hosting tea parties for all of her toys, or even playing solo card games on the floor in the upstairs room. These games of her, though fun, always take a backseat when there is company or when her scholarly aunt decides to plan a fun outing for the two of them.

Hufflepuff, with the innate camaraderie traditionally associated with the house, will give Holly the steady company she yeans for. The house will also help to reinforce the already budding idea that hard work pays off - a lesson that would no doubt serve her well in the future.

Appearance:
Holly is small for her age, with really long brown hair and very dark eyes. At times, one would be forgiven to believe that she went straight from crawling to running. In fact, the only way to get the girl to walk calmly is to hand her a very heavy tray with plenty of cups and a pot of boiling hot tea. Though she is always moving, Holly is on the clumsy side. Her physical coordination is a little bit off, so she’s accidentally tripped and bumped her fair share of unsuspecting victims.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Holly Foxglove had taken a wrong turn somewhere.

She’d set off confidently enough, excitedly bounding down the grey corridor towards where she knew the Potions classroom waited. The quill she’d left behind had still been there, accidentally nudged in under one of the work stations, so retrieving the white plume had taken only a second.

It was only after she’d exited the classroom, skipping along the corridor before turning, then turning again, that she realised that she’d passed none of the paintings on her way in. She’d heard that some of them visited in other frames from time to time, but even the wooden fixtures looked eerily different coming from their right rather than left.

After another five minutes it became clear that the little girl was indeed lost. It was no panicking matter, really - she’d wandered off often enough that her brothers had come up with way to keep Holly safe while the world looked for her in a panic. And so, after slowing down and picking a nice clean spot, Holly sat down, pulled her legs in under her and started singing.

She’d gotten through the whole song twice and was about to start it again when she thought it might be a good time to switch the tune. Though Sunny Afternoon was one of her favourites, this was not a sunny afternoon and Holly was getting tired of pretending it was. It had never taken this long for help to arrive (not a surprise, really, since none of her brothers had any way of knowing she was even missing) so after a ferocious yawn and a most satisfying stretch, Holly decided to switch to something else.

She’d scarcely managed to remind herself of the first line of Catch a Falling Star when a voice sounded a little bit further down the corridor.

"H-h-hello?"

Holly was so excited at the prospect of finally getting out into the light again that she forgot to reply. Instead, she simply scrambled to her feet and grabbed her quill.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

“Hello! No, it’s just me! But once we’ve found your friend, can you take me back to the kitchens? I’ve been down here for days and I’m getting really hungry.”

If nothing else, it would be so much easier to find her common room from the kitchens than it was from this dark and horrid spot at the bottom of nowhere.
