Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Jax was born into the world as a half-blood. But unlike many others, he hasn't gone to a proper school. His dad, a pure-blood, but from Japan, had traveled to London, England and fell for a muggle woman, who would later be Jax's mother. His father, being from an entirely different magical culture, didn't really trust to have his child be taught at Hogwarts so he tried to have his family lead a normal life. Tried. Not soon after Jax was born, and he was able to speak, Jax had accidentally summoned things to him. At first, it was little stuff, like his toys from the other room. His family tried to hide the fact, but once he had gotten older and had accidentally summoned a working pocket watch for his father's birthday, the Ministry got involved. It had taken a lot of talking from his father with the Ministry to convince not punishing Jax, nor send him to Hogwarts. But eventually, they gave in, with explicit instructions that his father teaches him to use and control his magic and to not at any circumstances use it outside the house. He was also required to give a report each week. And so Jax slowly learned how to manipulate his magical powers, the family had to move out in the middle of nowhere and have their lessons in the dead of night to not rouse suspicions.

As the years past, Jax learned how to cast magical spells, but where he excelled was when he was summoning anything at all. Now, at the age of 25, Jax had been living on his own, with knowing the Ministry keeping a watchful eye on him. Everything was good in his life. That is, until one night, as he was walking the streets of London by himself, a muggle mugger showed up and stabbed him. Unable to contain his anger and in pain, he had casted a spell at a river nearby and summoned a Water Elemental. It was not soon after that the Ministry had caught wind of it and sent Elena Jangleton. With her help, Jax was able to stop the Water Elemental from causing too much damage and erased the mugger's memory of what had happened that night.

After that was all said and done, he was brought forth to the Ministry and... considering the events leading up to the mess that he made, the Ministry only gave a light punishment of community service in the magical world, with Elena watching over him. Soon, both had gotten to know each other and close, though neither would find the other attractive. But rather Jax felt like he can talk to Elena about anything. Soon after his community service was done, he was instructed to take a muggle job that would help the wizarding world in some way. He chose to be a muggle newspaper photographer to take pictures of all things interesting that are nonmagical to keep the prying eyes of any muggles that might be a bit too curious. There, he works day in and day out to ensure that his pictures are all about things to distract muggles from Wizard affairs

Roleplay:
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character:

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Option Two -
The snow had been falling steadily all morning and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Joshua Campbell scrunched his face up in a frown as he lifted his gaze to look to the sky. Snow. It really was quite a bother.

And it certainly didn't make it better that Diagon Alley seemed to be getting more and more crowded. Joshua sighed and pointed his wand at the large box that was currently placed on the doorstep of his shop. He had to get going. He had an order to deliver.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" The elderly man muttered and watched the box hover in the air for a moment. Honestly, did St. Mungo's really need that much tinsel? And with glitter of all things? He sighed again. If it hadn't been for the rather convincing stamp on the order, he would have been likely to believe it had been a prank by one of those orphaned rascals living up there.

Oh well, there was no point in waiting. Joshua deftly stirred the box down the doorstep and out onto the street, carefully levitating it above the heads of the crowd.

"Coming through! Coming through!" His voice sounded over the chatter of the crowd. "Keep out! Move ahead! Go on!" This was going way too slow. People were in the way and walking like they had all day! He huffed. Luckily the road was down hill.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!" Joshua let out a loud shout as his feet suddenly slipped in the snow and sent him, the box, and several long strands of tinsel tumbling into the person who had been walking in front of him.

"For Merlin's sake!" Joshua muttered angrily as he hurried to his feet again, red and gold tinsel now decorating his black coat. "I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" He looked apologetic at the person he had crashed into.

Geez, the Ministry is scary when they want to be, but at least they had given him a chance rather than send him straight to Azkeban. From under his ribcage hurt where the muggle mugger stabbed him, but he braved through it as an icy chill sent shivers down his spine. "Well,at least it can't get worst than this." He had said to himself, taking a look at the muggle camera that was given to him by the Ministry. He was to act as a way to divert muggles public attention elsewhere, knowing full well that there could be other isolated magical accidents waiting to happen. He groaned, knowing that he now has to be more social and learn what is new for muggles and what they have their eyes on, and to have an eye out for 'rising muggle trends'.

Being in Diagon Alley, for probably his second ever time, he wasn't aware of all the things that had went on here. That is, until he had heard a man yelling and a box fell on top of him. Jax let out a surprised yelp as he fell with the onslaught of items. Rubbing his head, and flinching from the pain at his side, he got up carefully before saying, "Yep. I'm fine. Better than being stabbed, take it from me, not recommended. Anyways..." He held his hand up to shake the other man's hand in greeting, if he takes it, "I'm Jax. Would you like some help with that? Sometimes two wands are better than one." He figured that this would be a good way to start his community service in the magical world, and who knows, might make a friend or two as long as he doesn't accidentally summon a water elemental. No? Too soon?

Hi Jax, welcome to the site!

Your application looks good so far, there’s just a couple of changes we’ll need you to make before we can get you accepted.

Firstly, in your biography, you write:
Quote

As per HP canon, children under the age of eleven are exempt from the laws around underage use of magic and the Ministry cannot detect who has performed the magic, only where it was performed. With that in mind, the Ministry would not have gotten involved in Jax’s displays of accidental magic when he was a child, nor would they have punished him for exhibiting signs of magic. Magical children are also permitted to be homeschooled in our canon and weekly reports on progress are not required (although there would likely be some form of review to ensure the child is being schooled to an appropriate standard). If you could edit this section of your biography to remove the references to the Ministry getting involved in Jax’s schooling, this would resolve the issue.

Please could you also remove the line in the next paragraph about the Ministry keeping a watchful eye on Jax, as they would not be doing this unless there was a specific requirement for them to do so.

Secondly, you write in your biography:
Quote
That is, until one night, as he was walking the streets of London by himself, a muggle mugger showed up and stabbed him. Unable to contain his anger and in pain, he had casted a spell at a river nearby and summoned a Water Elemental. It was not soon after that the Ministry had caught wind of it and sent Elena Jangleton. With her help, Jax was able to stop the Water Elemental from causing too much damage and erased the mugger's memory of what had happened that night.

Water Elementals are not present in our canon, so please could you remove all references to this from your biography. You could change this to a different creature in HP canon, for example a Kappa or a Grindylow. You mention that Jax and Elena erased the mugger’s memory, however an Obliviator is typically called in to erase memories of Muggles, and Elena is an Auror — if you could edit this to reflect that an Obliviator would have helped them with this, that would be great.

Thirdly, you write that Jax was instructed to take a Muggle job — the Ministry would not require someone to do this, so please could you edit this to make this Jax’s choice (or perhaps a family member’s suggestion, if Jax wouldn’t choose this by himself) instead.

Fourthly, can you please also confirm that Elena Jangleton’s player is content with the application that you have written, as there is significant powerplay within it.

Once you’ve made the required changes, please repost your entire revised application below, and we’ll be more than happy to take another look. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to PM me or contact me via Discord (Yas
#4887). Thanks!
