Il y a de ma vie

Living in Lyon for centuries, the Lisse family is a well-to-do (mostly) pureblooded family known for both their aptitude in potions and conjuration, as well as a certain proclivity for the dark arts. Recent events have left the family fractured and you can help find out if/how they mend. Although they tend to place themselves above others and family above everything, a Lisse will make for an interesting story, no matter where you take them!

Céleste Lisse
75 | Catherine Deneuve | Beauxbatons | Grand-mère

Céleste Lisse wonders if her life was worth it, now that her family has plunged itself into unfamiliar territory with her grandchildren making incredibly poor choices. This only adds to other poor family choices concerning the mixture of magical and muggle blood. And as much as she knows she should lead, Céleste is just awfully tired of the incompetence of youth.

Renée Lisse
48 | Marion Cotillard | Beauxbatons | Matriarch

Renée Lisse is a survivor. Marrying into a household of considerable money and reputation, she had to adapt to fit in only to reach the height of middle age and see it all come crashing down. The loss of her son, Lucien, has forced her to reexamine her choices and to put her efforts into the only child left she believes she can trust.

Mathis Lisse
49 |  Guillame Canet | Beauxbatons | Businessman

The pressures of being a Lisse ebbed down on Mathis before he was born. From my family to business, he has spent his lift upholding the family name. These days, he’s made a raft out of his work. The exception to this is his effort to ensure that other well-to-do wizarding families do not know what happened to his two eldest children. It has become his mission to control the narrative.

Lucien Lisse
25 | Jean-Baptiste Maunier | Beauxbatons | Associate

Brazen and honorable, especially now in death, Lucien passed on far before he could reach his full potential. Attacked by Kelpie while out investigating some dark magic, he had sent word to his sister for help, but time was not on his side. Unbeknownst to many, he still wanders as a spirit, lusting to finish that he could not.

Chloé Lisse
22 | Kacey Rohl | Beauxbatons | Entrepreneur

Chloé is a girl spurned by her own family. After a desperate attempt to save her brother’s life, Chloé was expelled from Beauxbatons and excommunicated. Alone and unsure, she adopted Paris as her own and began her own potioneering business. However, in the hunt for a livelihood, she is not above some shady dealings. The only real communication she engages with from the family is through her oncle Alexandre.

Juliette Lisse
20 | Jessica De Gouw | Beauxbatons | Debutante

Chloé’s younger sister Juliette has found herself under a lot of social pressure in the vacuum that Chloé left behind. With two siblings gone, she has become—without her own consent—the great hope of the family to maintain social graces. Although more reserved and gentile, don’t be fooled by Juliette’s pretty face—Lisse blood still runs through these veins.

Alexandre Lisse
50 | Jean Dujardin  | Beauxbatons | Businessman

From a young age, Alexandre did not much like his brother and they grew apart as Alexandre chose travel over the demands of the manor. Deciding to fund his life himself and remain childless, he’s distanced himself from the nexus of the family, passing that responsibility instead to Mathis. But when Chloé is excommunicated, he sees something of himself in her and comes to her aid despite her reluctance. His guidance is one of the few things she trusts in this world.

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Born into the Lisse family, Chloe grew up with high expectations. The long-standing French family had always had a bit of a certain proclivity for the dark arts. However, the branch in which Chloe was born was trying to move away from that way of life. Her mother’s marriage to a half-blood had already been a step in that direction. Regardless of her morals, her parents made sure she and her younger sister Juliette would become top students and  they encouraged her greatly academically. The stress of her family life made her grow close to the one person who had managed to escape the Lisse Manor: her half-brother, Lucien.

Chloe attended Beauxbatons, where she was kicked out in her penultimate year for stealing some dangerous potion ingredients. Her half-brother Lucien was attacked by a Kelpie while going undercover, rumored for a troop of dark wizards. Learning this, she was desperate to get some help out to him, which was why she stole from the school’s stalls. While she did manage to successfully brew the potion, she couldn’t get it to him in time and he died. Because of the nature of Lucien’s work, she refused to inform the faculty and school governors why she had committed this crime. Without a defense, they felt they had no choice but to expel her.

The Lisse family did not take well to Chloe’s expulsion and promptly excommunicated her, believing she too had turned towards the dark side of the family. Unsure where to turn, she decided she would live in Paris, which had always held a certain amount of romance for her. She started first by staying with some rather unruly muggles, but she didn’t like that very much so she thought she might turn her talent for stealing into a trade. Around this time, an estranged great uncle, Alexandre, found her and offered to help her, feeling sympathy at the fact that the family had turned her away. Determined to stand on her own two feet, Chloe rejected his offers for financial assistance, but she did agree to remain in touch, if only to keep abreast of the family’s status.

Meanwhile, her business expanded beyond petty theft into an illicit potions and potion ingredients business. She uses her Beauxbatons and family connections for both procurement and sales. Driving a hard bargain, she negotiates her prices as far as she can and always tries to stay ahead of market demands. She goes where the money is and doesn’t mind who she sells to or what they will be doing with the materials they purchase from her. She has developed a solid reputation in Paris and sells in the United Kingdom as well, particularly in and around Knockturn Alley.

In the long-term, she aspires to be a notable alchemist (not unlike fellow Beauxbatons alumnus Nicholas Flammel) and believes being a portioneer is a good step towards this goal. The smuggling is for flair and money.

Chloe is perhaps one of the most street smart people her age, and that is why she has become so successful up til now. She is extremely observant and creative. Because of the difficult situations she found herself in, she has become very self-reliant and determined. She does not work very well in teams because she’s always worried about protecting herself. It’s easier, she believes, to simply do things herself. Resourceful, she has found a way to make due with what she has and to find what she needs to succeed. Part of this is due to her persuasiveness and negotiation tactics. However, because she is so often working on these different levels and personas, she is difficult to get to know and she rarely reveals her vulnerabilities. Her focus can become too intense, leading her to have a kind of one track mind. She has found herself to have a certain talent for business, especially negotiation. As a part of this mindset, she feels she only needs to pay attention to rules when it suits her. In fact, she doesn’t see rules as rules; they’re more like guidelines. When frustrated or annoyed, she can be a bit haughty, which contributes to her overall difficult demeanor. When struggling with difficult problems, she turns to cigarettes and has a general dislike of those who judge this habit or any of her other bad habits.

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Roleplay Response:
Frogs had infiltrated London. And where others saw discomfort and annoyance, Chloe saw opportunity. Frog legs in particular were a commonly used potion ingredient and depending on the type of frog could be quite valuable. That was why she found herself in Diagon Alley that day, even if it was much busier than she would have liked.

And to make it worse, there was some foolish newspaper woman wandering around bothering people. Chloe kept a firm grip on her wand just in case a hex was warranted. Showy displays of magic were not really Chloe’s style—nor was humility—but she was always prepared to bite back and protect herself both personally and professionally—especially professionally.

Chloe lurked, as she often did, in an alley corner watching the frenzy around her. While it was important to be aware of the people—especially the annoying ones—her eyes focused in on the frogs, wanting to know what kind they were, speckled or otherwise. Species had a wide effect on price back on the continent.

She was still watching when the young woman who’d been asking all the questions toppled to the ground in the middle of the crowded street. Rolling her eyes, Chloe laughed a little at the display. People here were so incompetent—as if a shoe couldn’t easily be repaired with the tip of a wand.

And yet, as she crossed the street, she couldn’t quite resist commentating. “You better be quiet or you’ll scare the frogs,” she said coming up around the young reporter, “And then you won’t have anything to write.” It wasn’t the most challenging, but rattling the woman only required flair and nerve.

With a raised eyebrow, Chloe smirked a little. While her life of entrepreneurship was anything but easy, it was a hell of a lot better than writing about frogs all day, desperate for a quote.

No, Chloe belonged to no one and she forged her own path.
