Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Elizabeth Cavendish

Birthday: 3rd November 1945

Hometown: London

Bloodline:
Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Charms

Year (pick two): Third, second

Biography:
Elizabeth Cavendish was brought up pampered and with everything she ever needed. She had a large London estate, a prince of a brother to play with, any toy the girl could imagine. Perhaps her brother, as male heir to the family, stole some of the spotlight, but Elizabeth loved nothing more than watching from the side, able to experience it all without all the attention.

When her brother got sent away, she didn't understand what being a squib meant but her entire world shattered a little. She was alone and now everyone was focused on her, the other child, who better have the magical gene. Instead of being allowed to fall to the sidelines, Elizabeth started being paraded around as the Cavendish's only child. Terrified of being thrown away like an unwanted doll like her brother, her only choice was to play along and make sure everyone loved her enough to want to keep her.

On her eleventh birthday, her parents threw a grand party to celebrate the fact that she had a letter from Hogwarts - that unlike her brother, she wasn't a failure. She hadn't seen them smile so much since her brother's birthday. Elizabeth couldn't help but to cry all evening. Partially because of relief that she hadn't been thrown from the life she knew. But mostly because it meant that she wasn't going to escape it.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Slytherin

Personality:

Elizabeth enjoys nothing more than sitting to one side and people-watching. To her, the best things that happen are those that happen to other people and watching them happen is a lot less stressful and less effort than having to go through them. Perhaps she's just a little lazy and prefers a more laid-back lifestyle. Perhaps she doesn't like attention and prefers not to have eyes on her. But in her ideal life, she wouldn't have to do much living.

Of course, this isn't her ideal life. Elizabeth has quickly learnt that everything can change in a blink of an eye which terrifies her more than anything else could. To keep her security, she has to make sure there's no reason for her to lose it. Whether it comes from proving herself as worthy to keep around - she cannot let herself fail at anything she tries - or from making sure people love her enough to not let her go - she'll play the perfect princess in their eyes - she's desperate not to be forgotten.

She's trying too hard to be perfect that actually, she's not anything at all.

Appearance:
Elizabeth looks like what the daughter of the Cavendishes should look like. She keeps herself polite and poised, never frowning, never letting her facial expression be anything but welcoming. Her long brown hair is always well-brushed and presentable. Her clothes are always freshly pressed and speak of wealth without being too flashy. She doesn't pick them but if she was given a choice, she'd go for these fancy little dresses too, because that's what she's meant to do. Any time she is not presentable is a moment when her parents decide she's not good enough for their name. Besides, she thinks they look pretty too.

Option I:
"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

Elizabeth heard the voice of a Gryffindor rise up through the dungeons, calling for a girl she didn't know. She didn't know that the girl who had spoken was a Gryffindor, either, not exactly. But this girl was brave and Gryffindors were brave. Gryffindors were brave, Ravenclaws smart, Hufflepuffs were kind, Slytherins ambitious. And Elizabeth was whatever she needed to be so she wouldn't get kicked out.

And one of those things she needed to be was not lost.

The girl had been sat there for what felt like hours but was probably more like a few minutes. On her way down to the potions classroom, where she had left her textbook, she must have taken a wrong turn, because she didn't know this part of the dungeons. After stumbling around in the dark for far too long, unable to even light a simple lumos charm, Elizabeth had been forced to give up.

She wanted to do nothing more than cry and scream and let out her frustrations of being lost and being unable to do magic and everything else that had been building up, but that was un-ladylike. She couldn't let anyone see her like that, so she had found a spot in the wall that could be used a seat and perched like a little bird. Someone would come find her eventually.

To stop herself from screaming, she closed her eyes and imagined stories in her head, what a brave Gryffindor would do if they were here, what a powerful spellcaster would do, what anyone but her would do.

And then she heard the shout.

She smoothed her skirt as she made her way to the noise.

"Not Emma," she apologised, hiding her wand before it was questioned why she wasn't using it. "I'm Elizabeth Cavendish. If you wouldn't mind, would it be alright if you pointed me towards the way out of the dungeons? I'm afraid I took a wrong turn."

She glanced past the girl who had asked for Emma and stared at the darkness behind her. The heavy weight of her wand felt useless in the pockets of her robes.

"Or perhaps it might be a good idea if I could join you, help you find Emma?"

That idea involved much less wandering around in the darkness, all alone. It wasn't that Elizabeth was scared, particularly. She had been alright up until now. She was just more worried that she'd manage to get lost again, which didn't seem ideal.

If she got lost again, she probably would start crying.
