D. Tobias Fiore, Herbology Applicant
(1/1)
Tobias Fiore:
CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character name: Dante Tobias Fiore
Previous and/or Current Character(s) if applicable: Bailey McCormick & Co.
Character age: Twenty-four / April 1950
Character education: Durmstrang ’69, St. Mungo’s ‘74
Strength and weaknesses (details please): One of the few strengths the man considers having is his ability to obtain and retain knowledge. Ever thirsty and curious about the world around him, Tobias strives to be the smartest person in the room. He doesn't brag nor boast about his intellect, he just internally needs to feel like he has the upper hand in any situation due to his past. He's a very observant person, another strength he can count on. Noticing the little details wasn't something he ever had to work at - somehow instilled in his mind from a young age. Now, that was something he did use to his advantage often.
Tobias considers himself a very flawed human being, having lived a lifetime in his short years. His biggest weakness, in his own eyes, is the amount of empathy he offers those around him. It's not because he finds the trait to be weak or that others are undeserving of such compassion, it's because he tends to mirror the emotions he feels. He doesn't enjoy the feeling but can't help himself. Those same feelings can, at times, cloud his judgement in certain situations.
Physical description: Tobias stands at 5’11 6’ with dark brown hair and honey brown hues with gold specks around the irises that tend to darken with his mood. Wrapping around his back, intertwining on his shoulders and side torso rests a snake tattoo – the same as his brothers. Littered in various places all over his body are scars of different shapes and sizes.
Personality (nice, rude, funny etc. Paragraph please.): Tobias is a heavily guarded person, not willing to let outsiders in. His past has forced him to put a towering wall up with no intention of letting another living soul inside. He is not only emotionally closed off, but physically as well to anything that could possibly result to anything in the romance department. Though years have passed, he hasn't been able to let go of his wife's memory. Though his brothers urge differently, there hasn't been a person he's met that's tried to push through his barriers.
Incredibly polite, he keeps a professional face at all times. That doesn't mean he doesn't know how to laugh or smile when around others, there's just not getting close to him. Only when he seeks solace among nature or with those he calls family will Tobias let his guard down. When he does, the man pours his heart into everything and everyone, ensuring their glasses are full before pouring into his own. One hundred percent, he puts others before himself always, thinking of his own wellbeing last.
Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?: Honestly, Tobias desperately needs a change. He went through the grueling training of being a Junior Healer at St. Mungo's, spending years under the watchful eye of others. But the monotony of the daily life at the hospital wasn't one he wanted, not after tragedy struck and he lost his way - his purpose. He needed to find a new purpose, one that tethered him to something normal and vastly different than how he had been living for years prior. Most importantly, he was running from his past and was certain no one would look for him at a school.
Biography (500 words minimum. There is never such a thing as too much.):
Dante Tobias Fiore had been born kicking and screaming in April of 1950. Born in Africo, Italy to an unwed mother, he knew nothing but a life of a poverty. With an older brother to take care of him, the two watched as Delphina drank herself to an early death but not before producing another son. The two youngest boys would eventually produce magic, something that terrified all three of the boys at the first occurrence when they were both toddlers respectively.
(Federico was the eldest, four years older than Tobias. A fierce guardian, focused and determined. Dario, three years younger, the complete opposite of his brothers ; the epitome of sunshine but loyal to a fault.)
Upon turning eleven, Tobias received a letter for Durmstrang accompanied by the nicest witch. Delphina had had her suspicions about the boys' biological father's family but could never prove anything. She had told them growing up that their Papa had died 'fighting the good fight', whatever the hell that meant. It wouldn't be until years later that he figured out exactly what she had been talking about. He enjoyed studies but not entirely the social environment that came along with it. It was clear as day how poor his living situation was back at home. Secondhand everything - tattered robes, clothes, books. It had been a miracle that the boys were able to get their wands. He focused heavily on his studies, more so because of the wrath his eldest brother threatened if they didn't end up with a better life than they were growing up with. That sentiment meant so much to Federico, doing his own share to ensure that would be a reality instead of just a plan they whispered away in the late night hours of the night.
'Rico had stepped up as the boys' legal guardian upon their mother's death when the eldest turned nineteen. He had already started his own time at university, working long hours to make sure he could support himself while the boys were away at Durmstrang. He inherited the shack they grew up in and worked extremely hard to upgrade it a little better than their mother kept. Gone were the roaches, the ratty and thin blankets, and he saved up enough to buy his two youngest brothers their own beds. He was proud that his brothers were magical and very few times did he truly feel jealous about being left out.
Upon Delphina's funeral, the truth came out that their parents were part of an underground organization that was working to ensure the safety of the poverty-stricken families in Italy called Serpenti. The late guests, hushed but angry voices, the feeling of being followed. It all made sense and fell into place as Rico explained it to the younger boys. That was the reason their father had died - for the cause, after attempting to include muggleborns into the safety net. It was then decided that the boys would work towards helping the brotherhood, their community, and those worse off than they were.
Tobias and Dario were attached at the hip during school. Both boys continued to study hard and both played quidditch. The pair had to hone their bodies as well as their minds if they were going to see their parents' legacy flourish under their green thumbs. The boys didn't date until their final year of schooling, a deal made with Rico. Of course, that didn't mean the brothers didn't hook up or snog girls whenever they could. But they couldn't get serious, putting their future forefront first. His seventh year brought the appearance of Sofia Pesci, a beautiful halfblood transfer that he instantly fell for. The pair would eventually marry when they turn nineteen.
It was decided that upon graduation, Tobias and Dario would intern for careers that would be beneficial to the organization. Because Tobias had a knack for herbology and nature was his solace, the obvious choice was to be a healer, specifically in the Poisons Ward. His brother went to Magical Law Enforcement - he was a natural leader and it made sense when he graduated. Each boy was branded with the serpent tattoo the night they graduated, bringing their goals to life.
The night Tobias turned twenty-one, he went out celebrating with his wife and best friend. (Roman) Because of the work the Fiore brothers were involved in, the danger that came with it, Sofia became the first real casualty of their desire to better the world. Naturally, he blamed himself and put up the highest walls when it came to anyone outside of his family. He continued to intern at St. Mungo's, soaking up as much information as he could. More so than usual, drowning himself.
As soon as he earned the title of Healer, the man decided he needed a change. Every corner he turned, all he saw was her. She was haunting him, taunting his efforts to push through the grieving haze. But every day was a new struggle and he needed a change of scenery to help with it.
SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
(Please respond to to this in third person past tense. Do not write the other characters' reactions. Only your own.)
It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with paperwork, and lots and lots of books. A few of the shelves had various odds and ends that had been saved from previous owners. The sorting hat was facing a wall. The walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses, as well as her Russian portraits. Anneka Ivanova's was closest to Karina's desk.
In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order. Almost a ruthless order. Important papers were closest to her, with her favourite quill. Then other documents further away. And at the edge is her favourite Venus flytrap and a picture of Vlad.
A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.
Karina was not always punctual. Yes, she was aware of the time, she would just deliberately come late. She valued control. And what better method of control than making people wait for you. But she expected others to be punctual to the second. Or early. So naturally Karina Ivansko was not happy.
"You have five minutes to assure me that you'll never be late again." Karina said to the applicant gesturing to the ancient and uncomfortable chair across from her. Her fingernails drummed irritably on the desk. And she had a look on her face that imitated a Russian winter.
(Yes, she had learned well from the great Anneka Ivanova).
Roleplay Response:
The interview was another obstacle to overcome in his path to help the Serpenti. A change of scenery, a breath of fresh air would help his focus tremendously. He didn’t need to be on the front lines like his brothers; without his head fully back in the game, Tobias would just be a liability. But truthfully, he’d become a liability the night his late wife had died. It had been hard for him to focus on helping his community, both muggles and muggleborn alike.
And that’s why Tobias had arrived early, another step in attempting to cement the position he so desperately needed. For both himself and his hidden agenda.
The man took directions from a house elf, thanking the creature with a smile. He had rarely interacted with them while at Durmstrang. Taking the staircase pointed out, his eyes widened when it began to move, turning him away from the intended path. ” Nò, nò, nò,” he muttered, panicked, just waiting for it to stop moving.
Tobias bounded down the staircase, taking two steps at a time, knowing precious time had been wasted. He murmured a slew of curses under his breath as he took another staircase, thankful it didn’t move. He ran down the corridor, heart racing as he skidded to a halt in front of a very intimidating door. His future laid just beyond it, and though he was confident, a small part of him was fearful of rejection.
Clearing his throat, Tobias fixed the emerald green tie, smoothing down the black button-up. Pushing open the heavy door, he entered the room with an apologetic smile. ”I do apologise, Headmistress Ivansko. I wasn’t aware your beautiful school was so….exciting,” he said, stopping to stand in front of her large desk.
Extending his hand, ”Tobias Fiore. It’s a pleasure to meet you, signora. I can assure you my tardiness will not be a reoccurrence.”
