Biography:
Late Winter; 5th Year
In the Principal’s Office at Salem Institute, a fifteen-year-old girl sat on the edge of an elegantly carved wooden chair, her fingers nervously drumming against the manilla folder containing her transcript. The room, with its dark wood paneling and dim lighting, cast a somber glow on her anxious face. Randy’s heart raced as she shifted her gaze between the heavy oak desk and the antique clock ticking rhythmically on the wall. The documents in her hand, neatly arranged and brimming with academic achievements, seemed to weigh heavily in her lap. Each tick of the clock amplified the silence, and she found herself lost in thoughts about what the principal might say. The soft rustling of paper from the file she clutched so very tightly was the only sound breaking the stillness, adding to her growing tension. The anticipation of this pivotal conversation, which could shape her future, hung heavily in the air as she waited for the principal to arrive.
The principal’s heavy footsteps echoed as he entered the room, his imposing figure momentarily casting a shadow over the anxious girl. He offered a reassuring smile, though his eyes held a serious glint. As he settled into his chair behind the grand oak desk, he studied the blonde hair girl with a thoughtful expression. “Meranda,” he began, his voice both authoritative and inviting. “I’ve reviewed your application for the year abroad at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Before I make my final decision, I need to understand your motivation. Can you tell me why you’re so eager to participate in this program, and why you believe I should put your name forward?” His question hangs in the air, charged with the gravity of the opportunity and the weight of the decision ahead.
Meranda’s eyes lit up with a blend of excitement and determination as she explained her desire to attend Hogwarts as an exchange student. “I’ve been deeply involved with the Pawn Society here at Salem Institute,” she started, “where I’ve immersed myself in classes like Magical Law and Wizarding Politics.” Randy continued to speak about her academics and her passion for international relations. Immersing herself in the magical culture and political landscape of Britain would offer her invaluable insights into how international wizarding relations are navigated. The experience would not only broaden her understanding of global magical dynamics but also enhance her ability to foster diplomatic ties. By gaining a deeper grasp of Hogwarts’ approach to magical diplomacy and policy, Meranda believed that she would be better equipped to bridge cultural and political gaps in her future career.
One Week Later
Randy stood at the Owl Post, her hands carefully holding her completed application to attend Hogwarts as an exchange student. Her principal’s recommendation had been glowing, there shouldn’t be a doubt in her mind that she would be accepted. Yet, her heart pounded in her chest, a mix of excitement and nerves. This opportunity would be her dream, and now that she was finally applying, it felt both surreal and terrifying.
She’d spent countless hours poring over the application, detailing her magical abilities and her reasons for wanting to attend Hogwarts. The thought of leaving her family and friends behind to embark on a year-long adventure was both thrilling and daunting.
Randy imagined herself exploring the grounds of Hogwarts, learning new spells, and making friends from all over the world. She also could not wait to explore Wizarding London. Perhaps there would even be a school trip to the British Ministry. As she turned the application envelope over to the clerk and watched him carefully affix it to an owl (that she made sure would NOT get lost in transit), she took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She had no idea what the future held, but she was ready to embrace the unknown.
Start of Summer
Randy tore open the thick, parchment envelope, her heart pounding in her chest. A wave of excitement washed over her as she read the letter, her eyes scanning the words eagerly. The letter was addressed to her from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and it contained the most incredible news: she had been accepted as an exchange student from Salem Institute for the 1972-73 school term! The letter detailed the specifics of her acceptance, including her arrival date and the Hogwarts Express platform. Randy's dreams were coming true, and she couldn't wait to embark on this magical adventure.

Option 2:
That rat of his was in for it now.
The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.
Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.
Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.
Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.
The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.
As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.
"You blasted rat! Where are you?"
He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.
Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.
Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."
Roleplay Response:
Randy's eyes flickered up from the pages of her book, a frown creasing her brow. "Excuse me, Hugh,” she hoped she got his name right. “Can't you see I'm trying to read? Obviously I’m not staring" Her voice was soft, yet a hint of annoyance laced through it. She glanced at the boy, her expression softening at the sight of his distressed face. "Is everything alright? You look a bit...flustered," she remarked, closing her book and placing it gently on the bench.
Randy understood that he must be looking for his rat. She didn’t understand why anyone would want to keep such a dirty creature as a pet, but to each their own. What she did know was that if the rat was her pet, she would want to find it too. As annoyed as she was that he had interrupted her reading, she could understand Hugh's exasperation; his rat must be a mischievous little critter.
"Maybe you should try a different approach. Yelling and anger never really helped anyone. Perhaps a little bribery with some cheese might keep him close." A smile played on her lips as she tried to lighten his mood. "Come now, let's go find that rascal. I'm sure he's just hiding somewhere nearby.” Her story could wait for another time.
