Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Scott Ambrose Flickinger

Birthday: June 3 1951

Hometown: London, England

Bloodline:
Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two): 6th, 7th

Biography:
At the Flickinger household there can be found a moving photograph of three children seated within the clutches of jolly old St. Nicholas: the eldest is combative and kicking; the youngest, a mere infant, is bawling; the middle child, a toddler, grins right at the camera. This is Scott Ambrose. He grew up weathering chaos with a good sense of humor, playing both sides of the coin as the antagonist and as the mediator.

A number of protections allowed him to do so, of course. The Flickinger name has history behind it, members dotted in the annals as consistent advocates for progress of the wizarding world and espousing pro-muggle stances in more recent times. Despite a well publicized passion for charity the family vault is in no hurting for fortune. Scotty’s mum has spent her adult career establishing a real estate company that specializes in the crossover between muggle and magic domains; their own home does not lack comfort. Neither does it lack love, though as with any family the feelings are prone to conditional strain.

Starting Hogwarts as a shy child did not bequeath as much anxiety to Scott as it may have to others in his position. While in different houses, he did have an older brother to help ease the transition, and eventually the first year settled in to a place of softspoken comfort with a hunger for companionship filled by peers. It was difficult to balance impish tendencies with a need to preserve his family's philanthropic reputation - this pressure originating directly from his mother and her quasi-political empire. Scott has always been more conscious of that need than his siblings, and more clever in his devious schemes to subvert it. For the most the part he's maintained good marks throughout his years in school - though there was no helping him through divination and arithmancy - and a respectable enough veneer only occasionally marred by the need for mild discipline.

House Request: Gryffindor or Slytherin

Personality:
Pretentious but trained to hold the tongue -

Dauntless and calculated on when to act upon it -

Often leading with eyes instead tongue, Scott won't be known for boisterousness; he's always been more observant, taking time to mull thoughts into words and delivering them without much flare - dry and subtle, keen and judgmental. Around those who coax down his practiced walls there is a budding young man eager for action, for pushing boundaries solely because they stand to be pushed. Scott cares deeply about what his close friends think of him. These are the only people who will be gifted his cynical humor and teenage crudeness. He's not really interested in the masses at large. However, someday he does strive to be a fixture in the laws and legislation of said masses' lives. Because he is better at it than they would be, obviously.

Appearance:
Shy of six feet by an inch and a half (he'll claim just an inch), Scott's probably done growing. His broad frame lends a stocky silhouette which is a little bit defied by the features of a fair, boyish face. Brown locks bloom into sandy blonde during summer days. His uniforms are finely tailored and rarely is the tie knot around his neck offcenter.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Roleplay Response:
Air siphoned through the fortified lines between clenching teeth might have given the air of a kettle at ready. There was no kettle in those basement corridors, not that Scott had been made privy to. There was just some daft young ickle seemingly sprung from shadows of dankness and the hissing nose of a startled boy older and bigger than the girl, on instinct otherwise keeping down his Heavens! or worse exasperations.

Everything about the moment wound around foolish. He was irritated for getting caught in the tangles. Scotty had over the years developed a tolerance for his sister, because she was his sister and he supposed he loved her, but the more that time tacked onto his life the less patience he found for any other stupid little girls. Mum had forced him into a charitable evening at St. Mungo's over the break gifting the sick children all sorts of elegant presents and even that had demanded his absolute best efforts. This girl here with her wide eyes and frankly abysmal play at defiance ejected so far beyond his interest.

"Emma Birch?" he parrots back in satin tones, arms weaving across his chest like twin serpents on guard. He'd be due to Potions tutoring in a bit, and he'd need to have things set up first. "What do you mean? You're Emma Birch. You're the dead girl. You've always been the dead girl. All you confused, Emma?"

Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
Eyes pulled wide as a borderline hostile command leveled at Scott Flckinger. The ruckus of it would annoy anyone, but accompanying that displeasure was the chocolate egg that had been balanced and spinning perfectly on the tip of his finger tumbling onto paved sidewalk, denting the foil. Not unlike this girl’s apparently thick noggin a few moments ago.

He was less than impressed with the local hooligan. Hard to get anywhere in life with that sort of tact. Plus, one sister was more than enough little girls to deal with. He liked to play - he loved to fly, really, more than he enjoyed animals (significant) or chocolate (moderate enjoyment),  and certainly more than he liked to study (abysmal) - but little girls and strangers were not usually his cup of tea, and she made up both.

As a hand reached down for the damaged treat his throat cleared. ”Me? Oh heavens no.” Scotty eyed the amateur vessel which had ejected her, absently tossing and catching the egg. He thinks about giving it to her so she’ll leave him alone, but what did they always say about feeding stray cats… ”Think I have a friend up around the corner there who might stomach your training broom though.”

If he could make it around the corner, he had very little intention of returning.
