Application for Beauxbatons Academy

Name: Victoria Laurent

Biography: Victoria was born in Foix, France. She grew up in the centre of the town. Her mother, Brielle, kept house and her father, Alexandre, worked for the French Ministry of Magic. Her family was wealthy and she was home tutored until she went to Beauxbatons.
Foix was medieval looking. Victoria had never been particularly interested in books but she had an interest in magical history, which she had shown at a young age. She read books on the European magical schools and dreamed that she would go to Hogwarts. She loved the learning options and the medieval castle that she had seen described in her books reminded her of her surroundings. But her parents announced that instead she would attend Beauxbatons.
Victoria begged her parents to reconsider: they refused and told her that she would like Beauxbatons better. With her dreams shattered, Victoria shut herself away from the world, ceasing all contact with her few friends in France. She hardly spoke to her parents, either. She was sad and wanted to be able to marvel at Beauxbatons the way she marvelled at Hogwarts. So she read more and more, delving into the history of Beauxbatons and its graduates.
Alexandre and Brielle were relieved to find their daughter showing interest in her school. They misinterpreted and instead of being relieved they should have been worried. Victoria grew less impressed by Beauxbatons the more she immersed herself in its history. Yes, the school had produced some amazing students. Her parents had attended the school themselves. But Victoria believed that Hogwarts would better suit her interests.
Still when she told her parents this they ignored her and told her she would adjust eventually. This was true in one way. She enjoyed the school and learnt a lot, but found it difficult to fit in. She had not made any friends by the end of her first year. She had owled Brielle and Alexandre every day, begging them to let her transfer. She was getting desperate but Brielle and Alexandre were determined to keep her there. She spent Christmas at Beauxbatons that year.
Victoria’s summer holidays were spent in her home library. Over the holidays she admitted defeat. She would never attend Hogwarts and accepted that she hadn’t been miserable at Beauxbatons. In fact, she had been quite happy. She eventually told Brielle and Alexandre this, lifting the worries they didn’t even know they had.
Victoria’s second year was better. She spent less time with books and more in the grounds. She even went home to visit her parents at Christmas. She resumed contact with her Muggle friends. She had Brielle send the owls for her friends by Muggle post and they often wrote back (Brielle would owl their responses).
This set of Victoria’s summer holidays were relatively better, though she still had no magical friends to owl. She spent time shopping with her mother and helping her father with his Ministry work that wasn’t “Top Secret”. She spent less time in the library and met up with her Muggle friends several times through the summer.
When Victoria returned for her third year she surprised herself by feeling ecstatic and excited. She remembered Hogwarts but she didn’t want to attend anymore. Her third year was spent out on the grounds and in the owlery. Her Muggle friends were sending more and more letters and Victoria didn’t have much time for the library. She still had no magical friends and she looked forward to making some. She went home to Foix for Christmas again and spent the time mainly with her Muggle friends. Her summer holidays were spent much like the previous.

Victoria marked her page with a servette and looked up. She placed her book on her lap and picked up her fork. Someone bumped into her and a plate full of food dropped down onto her. "Oh! I'm so sorry!" a girl cried somewhere above her. Victoria grabbed a napkin and wiped her face off. "It's OK, I'm Victoria." she said, testing out her new english. "Here, have a seat." she offered. "What's your name?"
