Application for Hogwarts School
→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.
Name: Rae Anaya Elliot (Rae)
Birthday: July 23rd, 1961
Hometown: Croydon
Bloodline:
Unknown
Magical Strength (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning
Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination
Year (pick two):
First (second if it can’t be accommodated)
Biography:
Rae is and has always been a compulsive liar with fantasies running through her head. Her mother died giving birth to her and her father was never in the picture to begin with. At the age of five, her grandmother passed away from a sudden illness. By the time a welfare check was done on the pair, it had been a month. The only thing they found was the deceased elderly woman as Rae had run away two weeks earlier. She was reported missing but with no one having really known her or wanting to be bothered, the case was never followed up on.
Rae spent the next years of her life evading anyone who appeared to have too much of an interest in her, surviving off the streets and her often sticky fingers. When thieving wasn’t enough, the tears of a thin little girl with moist eyes and a dirty face were often enough to land her what she wanted. Her lies stem from her insistence on living in a world of her creation rather than the one life has presented her. If one asks enough questions, they may realise perhaps nothing she said was ever true.
A less kind person may even describe her as feral though the sentiment wouldn’t be entirely true. Rae has issues with impulse control but has already begun receiving help with that.
She knows nothing of her family background and can no longer really remember her grandmother. This is a sore spot for her as her greatest wish is to have a family of her own.
Shortly after her 11th birthday, she was located by workers at the Ministry of Magic and, by her account, forced into provisional housing so she could begin her formal education with her cohort at Hogwarts.
→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.
House Request: Gryffindor or Slytherin (up to you)
Personality:
Rae can be likened to a firecracker, bright and energetic but chaotic. Her upbringing has left her with an iron will that sometimes drifts unbearably toward stubbornness. She likes to be around others, feeding off the energy of a crowd. Too much time alone gives her the opportunity for reflection and there’s nothing she’d rather avoid more. She presents as the person most needed in a situation, carefully concealing her own self (her wants, fears, etc.) behind a firm mask where no one is allowed to uncover it. Rae has never been one to back down from a challenge, a trait she had to develop from her time on the streets.
Appearance:
Rae has big hair that matches her big energy. She does little to tame it, having grown up without learning how to take care of herself. She has dark brown eyes and is a bit smaller than the average 11-year-old due in large part to her prior nutrition and her left, front tooth has a chip from a particularly nasty brawl she got into with some other street children in her earlier years. She is currently looking to find someone to either fix it or cast an illusion charm on it to make it appear whole.
→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.
Option I:
The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.
A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.
The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.
Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.
Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.
If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.
Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.
"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.
Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.
"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"
The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.
Roleplay Response:
Eavesdropping was a dirty habit, one typically frowned upon by polite society. It was better to mind one’s business and carry on. At least, that’s what she’d heard.
With rules like that, it was a wonder anyone had any fun. In any case, it couldn’t truly be considered eavesdropping if those older girls who’d spoken with Evangeline had chosen to speak at such an obnoxiously normal and acceptable volume. They were all but asking for her intervention.
Evangeline wasn’t the only one to travel down to the dungeons. Keeping at a reasonable distance, Rae trailed the girl, ducking into the shadows or slinking behind the suits of armour each time she feared discovery. It wouldn’t do to give away the game too early. Going down to the dungeons was no real challenge. Rae was there to make things more…interesting.
Perhaps, before the night was over, she would even rise in the esteem of those older girls for displaying true courage.
The cold, stone floor beneath her bare feet sent an exhilarating chill through her. Shoes might have betrayed her position so she’d left hers back by her bed.
When the girl stopped, so did Rae. She peered into the dimly lit corridor, wondering what had caused the premature end to their journey into the darkness.
When Evangeline jumped, Rae knew the girl had marinated in her own fear long enough. It was time to make her move. Using the girl’s distraction, Rae crept carefully…cautiously up to her from behind. She waited until she was close enough, sucked in a deep breath then bellowed.
