SHOPKEEPER PERMIT
You must have applied as an Elsewhere character before completing this permit.

Shop name: The Spotted Owl
Shop Type: Pub
Location: Diagon Alley
Subforum? Yes

Short Description (50 words max):
Looking for a relaxing pub to grab a drink with friends? The Spotted Owl is known for its laid-back atmosphere. A wide variety of drinks are available here, and you can find some pub food too. So, if you’ve had a stressful day of work, stop by to unwind.

Long Description (200 words min):
Established in 1970, the Spotted Owl is one of Diagon Alley’s newest pubs. The atmosphere is a lot more relaxing than most other nightlife venues.

When you first walk in the gray doors, you are greeted with a comfortable sitting area. Games can be found here, along with various mismatched couches and chairs. Along the back wall is the handmade, custom wooden bar that holds all of the drinks that can be bought here. Between the sitting area and the bar area are some tables if you’d rather not get too comfortable.

Quinn works hard to keep the pub a drama-free zone, and out of any criminal mischief. She’s not afraid to kick you out if she sees you doing something she doesn’t approve of.

What purpose will this shop serve other than selling things and being the home of your character? Why would people want to RP there just for fun?
Another pub is always a good spot to gather. Diagon Alley doesn’t have any subforums for them, and the only one in London is targeted at the rich. Knockturn is a bit too wicked for Quinn and the people I envision going here. So, I think this fills a nice little void.

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Quinn had always been the studious type. As a child, she could always be found with her nose in books. She studied as much as she could about the world – both muggle and magical. She was always called ‘the quiet one’, but that did not bother her; she knew she was quiet and that gave her the opportunity to observe more of what was happening around her.

It was, then, no surprise to anyone when she was sorted into Ravenclaw at the Opening Feast when she began at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Quinn excelled at nearly every subject, but found that as far as magical studies were concerned, Conjuring and Summoning was really where she shone. She was seen as a loner and struggled to make friends, so when she did, she became fiercely loyal to them. As far as extracurriculars, Quinn found a love of Quidditch. Despite being so quiet in class, on the pitch is where she became extroverted. She was short and light, so she was a natural fit for Seeker.

Upon graduation from Hogwarts, Quinn wasn’t too sure what she wanted to do with her life, so she did the safest thing she could think of: she began working at the Ministry of Magic. Her father worked with her, and her brother Duncan did for a while too. Unfortunately for Quinn, she got stuck in the basement of the Ministry as an Archivist. She didn’t mind it so much at first, but as her first year turned into five, six, seven years, she decided she couldn’t do it anymore.

She was ready for new scenery, and maybe a bit more noise than she ever thought she wanted. When Quinn emerged from that boring basement job, she decided to take out a large loan so she could buy her own place in Diagon Alley. A pub, of all things. Her family was a bit surprised that it was a pub and not something like a bookstore that she settled on, though to her it wasn’t surprising at all. After spending so much time in the Ministry’s basement, she was ready to find a bit more excitement in her life. Even with a mountain of debt hanging over her head.

Roleplay:

Option Two -
The snow had been falling steadily all morning and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Joshua Campbell scrunched his face up in a frown as he lifted his gaze to look to the sky. Snow. It really was quite a bother.

And it certainly didn't make it better that Diagon Alley seemed to be getting more and more crowded. Joshua sighed and pointed his wand at the large box that was currently placed on the doorstep of his shop. He had to get going. He had an order to deliver.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" The elderly man muttered and watched the box hover in the air for a moment. Honestly, did St. Mungo's really need that much tinsel? And with glitter of all things? He sighed again. If it hadn't been for the rather convincing stamp on the order, he would have been likely to believe it had been a prank by one of those orphaned rascals living up there.

Oh well, there was no point in waiting. Joshua deftly stirred the box down the doorstep and out onto the street, carefully levitating it above the heads of the crowd.

"Coming through! Coming through!" His voice sounded over the chatter of the crowd. "Keep out! Move ahead! Go on!" This was going way too slow. People were in the way and walking like they had all day! He huffed. Luckily the road was down hill.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!" Joshua let out a loud shout as his feet suddenly slipped in the snow and sent him, the box, and several long strands of tinsel tumbling into the person who had been walking in front of him.

"For Merlin's sake!" Joshua muttered angrily as he hurried to his feet again, red and gold tinsel now decorating his black coat. "I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" He looked apologetic at the person he had crashed into.

Roleplay Response:
Quinn was bothered by the amount of people that had flooded into Diagon Alley. While she had found the basement of the Ministry extremely dull, she found this many people to be quite overwhelming. So to distract herself from that overstimulation, she began reciting the alphabet of magical creatures in her head.

However, her alphabet was cut off mid-Mooncalf by a box followed by hundreds (maybe even thousands) of thin strands of glittery tinsel raining down on her. Quinn, despite herself, smiled. Unlike most people who were walking around the Alley at the moment, she wasn’t in too much of a hurry. That was the joy of being your own boss, it seemed.

“Oh, Mr. Campbell, are you alright? That was a nasty fall,” Quinn said when she turned and saw him on his feet. “Do you need some help?” she offered, as she dusted the tinsel and glitter off of herself.
