CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character name: Caroline Adele Bisset
Previous and/or Current Character(s) Fallon Tate, Niamh Doherty & co.
Character age: 30
Character education: Beauxbatons (1955-1960), Hogwarts (1960-1962)
Strengths and weaknesses (details please): Diligence and responsibility are core traits for Caroline. She always puts her full effort into everything she does. She is quite caring. She does her best to build relationships with each and every one of her patients and her colleagues. She is also always seeking to improve and expand her breadth of knowledge. While this mostly is in relation to medicine, she does try to incorporate this in all aspects of her life. She certainly keeps up to date on both muggle and magical medical journals, looking to implement the most up-to-date treatments and best practices.
Caroline does often get too lost in the details and can struggle to see the forest for the trees. She can be stubborn, believing her way is the best and only way. She can be tough and judgmental, but usually, that comes from wanting to help someone improve or wanting a top-notch healing environment. While she may be very dedicated, she tends to lose herself in her work and neglect her life outside of her career.
Physical description: Caroline stands tall at 5’10. She’s rather willowy and with no real curves to speak of. Her brown hair falls to just above her waist, and her fringe is swept across her forehead and falls just above her green eyes. When she is working, her hair is usually braided or swept back in a ponytail to keep it out of her face, though outside of work, she leaves it loose.
Personality: Caroline is, first and foremost, rather serious. She does know how to have fun, but generally does not allow herself to unless she is forced to by someone else. She is very detail-oriented and hard-working. She takes her role very seriously and can be rather stern with her patients and with those she teaches. She can be stubborn and unforgiving, though she is not completely immovable— you can earn her trust or forgiveness if you put in the effort. She cares very deeply, though she does not always show it. She always wants the best for her patients and the people that she loves.
Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?:
All Caroline has ever wanted to do was be a healer. And she accomplished this very goal, joining the Magical Bugs ward at St. Mungo’s following her graduation from Hogwarts. She’s become well-respected and experienced in her role. Though she is happy with her work at St. Mungo’s, she wants more. She is always looking for new ways to accomplish more and expand her own abilities in practicing medicine. Also, as an experienced healer, she always enjoys teaching the junior healers, so why not teach the students of Hogwarts?
Biography (500 words minimum. There is never such a thing as too much.):
Borne in Aix-en-Provence, France, Caroline Bisset is the youngest of Marc and Camille's two children, and her arrival three and a half years following Adrien's completed the family. The family was by all means average. Marc was an English professor at a local university, and Camille was a nurse. They genuinely had no idea that there was more beyond the muggle life. Her childhood was fairly uneventful, though there were a few occasions marked by events the family could not explain. Things moving when nobody was touching them, glass shattering, Caroline coming out unscathed from falls where she should have been hurt. Not knowing any better, the family brushed it off because they had no other explanation.
Once Caroline turned eleven, the Bisset family received the answers they had needed, though they could hardly believe it. A representative from Beauxbatons came to the family home and revealed the truth about Caroline. She was to be going to Beauxbatons in the fall rather than the school she had been attending. The family was accepting but shocked nonetheless. It took a couple of days for them to process the news that they had just received. Even Adrien, the "cooler-than-you" type older brother, was impressed with his younger sister's abilities.
While there was a good amount of culture shock at the beginning, Caroline quickly fit in at Beauxbatons. She couldn't imagine going back to muggle school once she had begun her magical education. She put her effort into her studies, wanting to learn more and more about this world she was now a part of. She often stocked up on books regarding magical subjects for her summer holidays. This curiosity and hunger for new information led her to be at the higher-scoring end of her class. However, she was never truly at the top because her interests were not always in line with what was being covered in the curriculum.
As proud as her parents were of her accomplishments at Beauxbatons, they had to make a very difficult decision. Marc had received an offer to teach a course comparing French and English literature along with other literature courses. The position paid more and was at a prestigious university in Edinburgh, Scotland. Of course, this required relocating the family to Scotland. That meant that Caroline would have to continue her education at Hogwarts. Traveling back and forth to France each time Caroline has to go to and from Beauxbatons was impractical for the family, who could only use muggle transportation.
Caroline was crushed. She was being pulled from a place where she felt she belonged. However, she knew that this was an opportunity her family could not refuse. So, Caroline transferred to Hogwarts, where she finished the remainder of her education as a Ravenclaw.
After graduation, she began her work as a Junior Healer on the Magical Bugs ward of St. Mungo’s. Her dream had always been to be a doctor (or healer once she learned of her nature as a witch), and it was finally a reality. Since then, she was promoted to healer and has thrown herself into her work.
SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with paperwork, and lots and lots of books. A few of the shelves had various odds and ends that had been saved from previous owners. The sorting hat was facing a wall. The walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses, as well as her Russian portraits. Anneka Ivanova's was closest to Karina's desk.
In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order. Almost a ruthless order. Important papers were closest to her, with her favourite quill. Then other documents further away. And at the edge is her favourite Venus flytrap and a picture of Vlad.
A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.
Karina was not always punctual. Yes, she was aware of the time, she would just deliberately come late. She valued control. And what better method of control than making people wait for you. But she expected others to be punctual to the second. Or early. So naturally Karina Ivansko was not happy.
"You have five minutes to assure me that you'll never be late again." Karina said to the applicant gesturing to the ancient and uncomfortable chair across from her. Her fingernails drummed irritably on the desk. And she had a look on her face that imitated a Russian winter.
(Yes, she had learned well from the great Anneka Ivanova).
Roleplay Response:
Caroline was still in her St. Mungo’s scrubs— crisp white with lime green piping around the neckline and pockets. Her white coat had the St. Mungo’s emblem and her name embroidered on her left side of her chest. She did not have time to change or adjust her appearance before arriving at the castle, she was already late as it was.
She wound through the familiar halls as she found her way to the Headmistress’ office. Part of her could not believe her former Magical Home Ec professor was allowed to occupy a position of such power. Had she lost her mind for considering working under the woman? Possibly, but there was little she knew she could not handle.
Punctuality was important to Caroline, but there were other matters that ranked in priority. Emergencies did not care for schedules.
“You have five minutes to assure me that you'll never be late again.”
Caroline was not intimidated by the woman. She dealt with a wide variety of people in her line of work, and little got under her skin anymore. Though, she had never been particularly fond of the woman before her.
“I do not make promises that I cannot keep. Nor will I apologize for being late. There was an emergency on the ward, and my patients will always come first,” she responded cooly but evenly. “I think this is one of the more important traits for someone you are entrusting with the health and well-being of your students.”
She took her seat in the chair across from the Headmistress.
“Now, why don’t we begin?”
