Biography:

“Hen.” He jabs the other Hufflepuff’s arm as he tries to get his attention. “Oi, Henry.” Another jab, then several more. Jab jab jab jab jab—

“What?!”

Frankie looks up to meet his friend’s gaze. It suddenly dawns on him that he hadn’t been listening for an answer, Henry probably responded after the first time. Alright, judging from his expression, he definitely had.

If they hadn’t been through this so many times before, Frankie might have thought he was mad.

“Huh.”

Realising Henry’s waiting for him to say something a bit more substantial than that, he clears his throat and sheepishly gestures to his textbook. “What’s the answer to this?”


“Ugh.”

He’s pulled out of a dream by music which probably would have sounded a lot better at  a different time of day. Half his duvet was on the floor, so he pulls it back up with a rough tug. Tree lets out a yowl as her makeshift bed’s pulled out from under her.

He’d been at home. Mum was there.

He hadn’t thought about Mum for a long time.

Frankie tries to listen for Henry, but there’s no sign the boy’s there. He’d made his escape already, lucky bastard. The music persists.

“Neddy,” His voice is still raspy from sleep, “Shut the—”

He’s cut off by the shriek of brass.


The crease between Dad’s brows seems to always be there, but whenever Frankie comes home to relay his adventures at the castle, it becomes all the more noticeable. He used to joke about it, but Dad didn’t really respond when he did that, so he stopped.

“It doesn’t sound like a very safe game…” He mutters into his cup of tea. “I don’t understand how they can just let you fall. Surely the teachers should—”

Frankie cuts him off, mostly because he hadn’t even realised he dad hadn’t finished speaking. “It’s magic stuff, Dad. You wouldn’t get it.”

(If Joseph Dufort had a pound for every time his son had said that…)

“What? You think I can’t handle it?”

His dad scrambles for an excuse, though it doesn’t seem like he’s trying all that hard. He ends up stammering into a silence. Frankie huffs, but he can’t bring himself to be offended.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.”

Option 2:

Frankie had been taking a nap before his rude awakening. The boy cracked open an eye as he watched the younger student stumble through the flower beds. God, and they said he was clumsy.

Pushing himself up to rest on his hands, Frankie continued to watch without much care for making his presence known. He wondered what he was looking for.

The sneeze made him jump, but Frankie managed to compose himself before the other boy noticed him. He instinctively raised his chin at the confrontation in his tone.

“Well I ain’t polite.” He returned gruffly. Stuck-up bugger.
