Thank you, I felt very nervous because everyone seems to be older than me here! Or maybe they're not, but, whatever... :)

Biography:
If you are applying to be a first, second, or third year, your biography must be at least one hundred words long.
If you are applying to be a fourth year or above, your biography must be at least three hundred words long.

Her family was - complicated. That was the only word Naomi could think of. A long train of questions she had directed at her parents during the course of her childhood had allowed her to sum up her lineage: a quarter each of Chinese and Dutch, and an eighth each of Indonesian, Italian, Indian and English. If she could draw a family tree, she would, as she had a habit of recording every piece of information she came across in the numerous notebooks she owned, but she couldn't draw a simple stick figure to save her life. Honestly.

She had it fleshed out: her grandfather on her mother’s side was Chinese, with his wife being Indonesian-Italian mixed. On her father’s side, her grandfather was English-Indian mixed, and his wife was of Dutch descent. The family name 'Harper' came from Naomi's one-eighth of English descent, which was odd, because the Harper family looked and was anything but English. They were like a ragtag group, or those mongrel dogs that were made of so many different breeds that they turned out as ugly monsters.

But luckily, Marie and Terry Harper’s children did not turn out to be unsuccessful lab experiments, unlike the poor mongrel dogs. Naomi, Danielle and Peter were beautiful, exotic-looking children.

Marie was a curious, clueless and bright-eyed muggleborn sorted into Hufflepuff. Her Chinese father was a squib, and she had only ever heard of the Wizarding World in passing around the dinner table. Her grandparents had kicked her father out when discovering he had no magical ability. Terry was a cheery non-elitist pureblood sorted into Gryffindor. By some odd chance, he met Marie, and the two became fast friends. That's where it started. In Hogwarts. They graduated, hand in hand. Not long after graduation, Terry proposed. Marie accepted. Before they were married, Marie announced that she was pregnant. They were overcomed with joy and married even sooner than planned.

There they were, a newly married couple with a baby on its way. Terry got a job in St. Mungo's as Junior Healer, while Marie stayed home in their small apartment. Months passed by. The baby was due soon, and only then, did they decide that London was no place to settle down and raise a family. So they packed their bags hurriedly and settled into a large home in Leeds, Terry's wealthy pureblooded parents providing the funds to start their new family. Marie went into labor while unpacking some boxes in their new house.

After giving birth to their first child and daughter, Naomi, Marie could not work and 20-year-old Terry had to support the family. He worked late hours and night-shifts, working his way up the St. Mungo's corporeal ladder. Because of this, their second child, Danielle, was born 6 years after her older sister. Marie had also started working when Naomi was 3-years-old, obtaining a job as a reporter for the Daily Prophet. By this time, the Harpers were a stable family.

As a child, Naomi was bursting with energy and loved exploring everything there was to explore, with a naive nature, a trusting disposition towards strangers, and an ability to turn the saddest thing into something more or less posititve. Her parents didn’t earn much during the first six years of her life, so she didn't grow up with much, but that was okay. Naomi was always happy.

Naomi attended a muggle primary school close to her home. She was fully aware of the Wizarding World and her parents' education at Hogwarts. Surprisingly, Naomi, who was usually too curious for her own good, did not take much interest in magic at all. She did everything the muggle way and did not display magic ability until she was 7, when she turned Skittles's (her cat) fur red. She thought it rather suited him, though.

The bullying started when she was 9. She didn’t understand why...Naomi never had any magical 'accidents', not in school anyway, and she had fitted in well enough the previous years. Maybe it was because she was too happy, too cheerful, and people wanted to rain on her parade. Or it could just be that she was different...she had always felt different, not because she could do magic, and not in the way that she felt superior to others, but just - different.

In the same year, her autistic brother, Peter, was born. Naomi didn’t tell her parents about the bullying. Infact, over the years, she didn’t tell her parents about anything. Lying and putting up a front became part and parcel of everyday, and her unsuspecting parents were too busy with Danielle and Peter to notice the unhappiness dwelling inside of Naomi. With the strained relationship between her and her parents, and her friends (she always had cliché friends) abandoning her, Naomi had never felt more alone.

If she had any friends, they would have noticed the drastic change in her behaviour. She walled herself up with books and delved into them. Gone was the happy, active girl; Naomi became reserved, guarded, and quiet. Skittles was the only living thing besides her family to have socially interacted with her during those dark times. She hated her life, hated those girls who had made her feel like absolutely nothing, hated the cruel world that she had once loved; but most of all, she hated herself. People aimed to make her feel ugly and worthless...and they did.

Hogwarts was a chance to start again.

*Naomi was sleeping when the time warp happened, and she woke feeling a little queasy, but recovered quickly. Her whole family was magical, and she didn't know her non-magical grandparents on her mother’s side very well, so she did not miss or remember them. Naomi didn’t have any special muggle friends or relatives. She merged with 1930s life easily, and knows something happened that day, but doesn't exactly know what it was.

*Sorry that the application is bad...I'm 14 and not a child genius either, unfortunately. :(

House Request: Slytherin. She considers everything before making a decision, is intelligent, and thinks of her welfare before others. She has the ability to lie, and convincingly so, but isn't manipulative. Also has a mean streak towards people whom she feels deserve it. ;)

Personality:
Naomi was, and will forever be, that fiery little girl, however cleverly she tries to hide it. She was born with boundless energy...and since becoming a loner, she has had to express it in other ways than social interaction; you can usually find her walking around Hogwarts aimlessly or climbing trees.

So there was this big fat word that changed her life when she was 9: insecurity. Naomi has a constant need to be accepted by everyone. Because of this, she is multi-faceted, adapting to suit her audience, and can make anyone see her the way she wants them too. Despite this, she is not manipulative. Generally, Naomi is good person. She just lies and masks herself because she wants everyone to like her. Naomi has a very 'realistic' (leaning towards negative) view of the world and the people in it. She is quick to judge, and is usually correct. If you're in her good books, she’ll respect you, but won’t suddenly be all friendly or anything. And if you're in her bad books, she’ll show you no mercy. Because you deserve it.

Self-preservation is important. She has a strong sense of justice, but isn't stupid about it either. Naomi wouldn't stick up for a kid getting beat up by a big gang...but she’ll bring him to the infirmary when the bullies are out of sight. She is quiet. Maybe slightly socially awkward, but not the type that stumbles over words. She just doesn't talk much, and often people will find themselves asking her to elaborate on her responses. Mostly, Naomi is guarded...she attracts friends, but whether you can call them 'friends' is another thing. Most will just see her as that nice, strange girl who hangs at the back of class and looks like one of those quiet geniuses. She finds solitude easier to handle than being around people. Sarcasm and wittiness are just ways she defends herself, and if you can get past all of that, you will find that Naomi has a kind heart, and doesn't wish to cause anyone harm.

Appearance:
Dark chestnut, stick straight mid-length hair. It isn't like she cares very much about it, but sometimes she likes to charm it to make it wavy. Because she thinks that her hair is boring.

Her eyes are green and wide...clear, lime green, and not a single bit speckled. It’s hard to notice, but a brown, almost red ring surrounds her pupil. In her younger days, her dad had told her she had central heterochromia in her eyes. None of her family had it. But there were no associated problems, and she thought herself lucky, because it was a rather beautiful malfunction.

Naomi's features are sharp...sharp nose, sharp jawline, mostly structured features that are typical to Europeans, but she somehow looks Asian at the same time. She has a smile that looks beautiful even if she fakes it. At a glance, she can seem like a pretty average girl, but when people really look at her, she is actually quite the pretty little thing.

Naomi is short. She is petite, but not particularly frail or small. She doesn’t try to attract attention, doesn’t smile, frown, or generally show much emotion at all. That is, in front of people...

Naomi perused the letter she didn’t have a chance to read that morning, green eyes flicking leisurely across the lines of slanted, joint writing. Danielle had set one of her dolls on fire again. Oh dear. The professors would have a ball when the time came for her sister to attend Hogwarts, but thankfully, that wouldn't be in quite a few years. She had never acquainted herself with either of her siblings very well, and for that, she regretted...Danielle, whom she could see so much of herself in, and Peter, whom she wished she could have reached out to in his autistic state. Aunt Miranda was coming to stay for a few days next week. She worked at the Daily Prophet with Mum, but that was all Naomi really knew about her. There was the rest of the content...hired a new maid after the last one was caught dozing off on the couch, Danielle's new obsession with stamps, Peter's worrying lack of communication, and Mum's new housecleaning spell, the letter ending with 'Your father, Terry'. Naomi was, once again, disheartened by the detachment between herself and her family. But it was all her own fault, anyway.

She folded the letter, took one look at her half-eaten egg sandwich, and stood from the table, spotting a figure from the corner of her eye, a boy, that was also heading towards the doors of the Great Hall. Walking leisurely, Naomi paced behind the boy, who seemed to be taking the same path that she was. They were now walking in the hallway that was completely silent except for their echoing footsteps. She sped up, wanting to get back to her room as quickly as possible, remembering that Skittles should never be left alone in a room with pillows or cushions. It became apparent that the boy was agitated when Naomi wasn't able to catch up to him, even with her  pace increased. She spotted the curled fists by his sides.

Really, she didn’t want to know what had gotten him so riled up. She just wanted to see whether Skittles had ripped her pillows to shreds yet. Unexpectedly (or maybe she had seen this coming) the boy whirled around to face her.

”WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!”

Naomi jerked backwards, startled, accidentally ripping the letter in her hands. She looked down at the two pieces of paper. It was okay...she wasn't going to keep it anyway. She looked up again at the boy, and had a flash of recognition.

Usually she wouldn't come out to watch a quidditch match, but it had been the big one of the year and just one wouldn't hurt, right? So she had gone, and watched, and watched, and watched...it had been such a boring affair and she had people screaming in her ear like hooligans. Ugh. Crowds. So she had left before the game ended, and the last thing she saw of the match was a small-ish player fumble with the quaffle and miraculously drop it. Naomi understood the reason for his outburst and why he seemed so distraught. It was a pathetic move at best, and it must have cost his team. Merlin, was the guy - crying? It would have been funny, if only his face wasn't so sad. She could replace the shredded pillows later. Skittles should count his furry butt lucky.

She started out nonchalant, like she was reading from a book, “Don't be so hard on yourself.”

Naomi paused for a second, then muttered, “Relax...you haven't killed anyone. And cameras don't work in Hogwarts. Ha. Ha.”

She knew her attempted joking was a fail, and was sure this wasn't making him feel any better. Unused to comforting people, she bit her lip and made a move to place her hand on his upper arm, hoping he wouldn't freak out or run away. Her face, as per usual, remained expressionless.

A simple question, but Naomi felt oddly nervous about the response. “Take a walk with me?”
