"Commander Quasar" is a made-up comic book hero/action hero established entirely for the character of Will. He is not referencing a real character and does not have superpowers. Any name similarities to real characters would be purely incidental.

From the day he was born, Will was a happy little baby who was almost always smiling at everything and everyone. Will’s life was perfect – until the day his mother went to space. At least, that’s what everyone said. She was “living in the sky” now, so they said. Will couldn’t remember when his mom left or why she left, so he had to believe she was up there – living in the sky. All he remembered was that the last time he saw his mother, they were playing his favorite game – hide and seek. And, just as suddenly, his entire life had been uprooted to go live with his Uncle Corvus.

Will had always been treated well by his uncle and aunt. They had always treated him like one of their own children and Will thought of them as his own siblings. Ever since the day his mom left for space, however, Will was never the same person. Even surrounded by loving people, Will has only ever seen evil and danger lurking in every corner. As if a switch were flipped, the happy little boy living with his mother had become a complete nervous wreck. Will has spent most of his life clinging to one family member or another, preferring to stay at home with his aunt and uncle. And so, it had been a complete shock when his letter to Hogwarts came in the mail.

Will has never spent so much time away from his family. And yet, Will accepted the offer when he was told that he couldn’t become an astronaut without first getting an education. From the moment he first heard that his mother lived there, Will had become fascinated and almost obsessed with space. He has spent nights looking up at the sky, hoping to see a message from her. His one goal in life, besides surviving it, is to go into space to reunite with his mother. And so, Will is taking his first steps into real life for the first time in years. It’s one small step for the average person, but a giant leap for Will.

House Request: Ravenclaw

Will is an extremely sweet young boy. He is always willing to share and play nicely with his siblings. He always uses an “indoor voice” when speaking, almost to the point of whispering when he speaks, and never raises his voice. Even when someone says something rude to him, he will respond with kindness. He’s always willing to give and receive hugs. He can be especially clingy with people that he knows very well and that he trusts.

However, Will is also terrified of almost everything. Whether it’s animals, the darkness or even a new environment, Will tends to respond to them with sheer terror. Needless to say, he’s almost always in a state of fear or teetering on the edge of it. He has a stutter that becomes especially pronounced the more nervous he becomes. Will is also prone to crying, especially when thrown into one of these new and strange situations.

Will is a sensitive person in general. Not only does he feel his own emotions strongly, but he is also receptive to others’ emotions as well. While he can’t always read emotions, he is observant to changes in other people and will react accordingly. Sometimes, his mood can even change depending on the emotions of others around him.

Due to his typically fragile emotional state, Will has a tendency to daydream about his favorite superhero and pretend he’s an astronaut to help cope with new environments. Most commonly, he pretends he’s landed on an alien planet and is exploring an entirely new civilization if he’s in a place that he’s not familiar with or doesn’t know at all.

At just slightly over 4 feet tall, Will is used to being towered over by even kids his own age.  He also has a small and weedy build that tends to make him look even smaller. He is skinny and never looks like he eats enough. His skin is fairly pale and delicate-looking and his large, brown innocent-looking eyes almost always have dark circles under them from a lack of sleep. They always seem to have a watery look to them, as if he could start crying at any moment. He almost always looks sickly and as if a stiff breeze could knock him over, even when he’s not ill.
Will generally wears fairly nice-looking clothes that were picked out for him. He usually has some sort of nice-looking corduroys and a collared, button-down shirt.  His medium-length blond hair is usually half-combed and it looks like he at least made an attempt to comb it, but he isn’t very good at styling it.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Roleplay Response:
One step. Another step. Deep breath. Will tried to take a deep breath, but found it caught in his throat as he glanced up at the high ceiling of the imposing castle once again. He really shouldn’t have looked. The place was enormous. What if he got lost? What if nobody found him before break? What if he was just trapped all alone in the school?
Abort mission! Will ran from the hallways of Hogwarts and stepped outside onto the stone steps. He tried to take another deep breath – still caught in his throat. He knew that going to Hogwarts was a bad idea from the moment he got that letter. It was too big and too far away from home! He wanted to leave. He could already feel the tears welling up in his eyes.
He gripped the little action figure in his hand tightly. It was a figure of a spaceman, his favorite comic book hero – Commander Quasar. He travelled to all sorts of alien lands and definitely went to places that were bigger than the castle. Will tried to take another deep breath and finally dislodged the strangling feeling in his throat. That was a little better – he was going to try again. The mission was back on.
But before Will could even take another step, he heard another voice. "You blasted rat! Where are you?"
Unlike Commander Quasar, Will didn’t need zero gravity to nearly jump out of his own skin. “A r-r-rat? Where?” he managed to squeak out, thoroughly terrified.
Were there rats in the castle? What if one of them bit him? Will had read that they could cause diseases, like the plague. He didn’t want to catch the plague. He heard it was awful. Will could feel his skin crawling just thinking about it. His eyes darted around to see where the evil rat was, but all Will could see was another boy.
He noticed the boy wipe his nose on his sleeve. Was he sick? Was he bitten by a rat? Did he have the plague? Would he catch it if he went near the boy? Will certainly didn’t want to catch it from the boy either.
"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."
Will jumped slightly at the sudden question. He was too busy thinking about the plague to notice that the boy was talking to him. “Huh – aah! I-I’m sorry! Please f-forgive me!” Will instinctively flinched. He didn’t mean to stare.
“It’s – um – it’s just that – w-w-what did you say about a – um - rat?” Will asked timidly. “Is there one h-h-here?”
