Biography:

Years of scandals, gossip and financial ruin had all but destroyed the Clarington-DuPont name long before Jean-Luc was born. From an early age, he had been made painfully aware that the DuPont family had become the butt of every joke and the laughingstock of the Pureblood community. It was a sentiment that Jean-Luc not only experienced in his daily life in the bustling Salem community, but also in his own family. While the wizarding community shunned him for being a DuPont, the young boy had always been something of an afterthought in his own family.

His father made his position clear quite often: Jean-Luc was lucky to have a place to sleep and could even consider himself lucky to have been born into such a prestigious family. His older sister, Lucinde, had always been and always would be first in line in the DuPont family. She was the magical prodigy, the first born, the one who had the power and the ambition to bring glory back to the DuPont name. Jean-Luc, on the other hand, never wanted anything to do with his Pureblood upbringing. He had always wanted to just be a normal kid with a normal family. It was something that had immediately set him apart from his power-hungry family.

Over the years, the wedge between them only grew wider, reaching its peak when Jean-Luc was sent off to Hogwarts. His sister, being the heir to the DuPont family name, was sent off to study at the Salem Institute. Jean-Luc, on the other hand, was deemed unworthy of studying at his family's alma mater. It was an opportunity that Jean-Luc gladly accepted to make a new name for himself in a completely different community and country.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request:Ravenclaw

Personality:
After years of being on his best behavior at his family’s many events and parties, Jean-Luc has developed a uniquely cynical attitude. Using sarcasm as his weapon of choice, Jean-Luc spends most of his time in public with his arms crossed. He has become an incredibly lazy individual, preferring to find ways to get others to do his work for him.

When pitted against an oppressive authority figure, Jean-Luc will have a tendency to openly ignore any orders given to him. Most of the time, however, Jean-Luc is a generally unflappable individual. An almost indifferent and careless smirk almost never leaves his face, especially in high pressure situations. He prefers to let out any frustrations in the form of snide comments. His aloof nature can make Jean-Luc come off as rude or cold towards others, especially the more they try to get to know him. Years of training in Pureblood etiquette have made it extremely difficult to openly get under Jean-Luc’s skin, although any topic relating to his family is likely to visibly irritate him.

Appearance:

A young man of average height, Jean-Luc can typically be found slouching, leaning up against a wall or kicking his feet up. His piercing blue eyes are, at times, hidden by his messy black hair. His thin, pale face is almost always adorned with a slight, confident-looking smirk.

Jean-Luc hardly puts any thought into how he looks or what he wears. His hair is typically slathered with pomade right after waking up and he is rarely seen without his thick leather jacket, a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans, even on the hottest days of summer. While Jean-Luc is on the scrawnier side, his jacket tends to conceal most of his body.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Jean-Luc found himself lazily draped against the stone steps of the foreboding castle he had begun to call home. He moodily bit into an apple, a quick breakfast he had snagged from the hall before sauntering outside to avoid his classmates entirely. He wasn’t normally one for small talk, but Jean-Luc was especially uninterested in trying to make any sort of conversation this early in the morning. He adjusted his aviators as the sun began slowly rising, signaling the dawn of a new day, and leaned slightly forward as he tossed the remnants of the apple core into the flower bushes. It wasn’t often that Jean Luc found any sort of solitude in a school filled to the brim with overeager witches and wizards, but he could always count on the few early morning hours.

At the very least, he could count on them most of the time. Today was apparently not going to be one of those days. Just as Jean-Luc took a deep breath, crossed his arms and leaned back up against the cold, brick walls, a shrill squeaking sound pierced his ears as a tiny grey rat darted out from down the steps and into the flowers, likely going after the apple core that Jean-Luc had just thrown in there. Jean-Luc thought nothing of it, not caring about what sort of vermin scampered around the halls, so long as it didn’t bother him. At least until a voice, that somehow sounded even more shrill than the rat to Jean-Luc, came from behind as the oak doors flung open.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

Jean-Luc lazily looked around, his quizzical face almost completely obscured by his aviators. He turned just in time to watch an older boy dive into the flower beds, seemingly after the creature that had just scurried into them. Jean-Luc only watched with a slight bemusement as the older boy combed through the flower beds, looking like a mess as he desperately searched for his rat, sneezing into the flowers as he did so. He had absolutely no intention of lending a helping hand.

Jean-Luc had remained so quiet and still, it seemed the boy hadn’t even noticed him yet. At the very least, until the boy stood up, wiped his nose with his sleeve and spoke directly to Jean-Luc.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

“Just enjoying the show, Sniffles,” Jean-Luc responded wryly, with a slight smirk forming on his face. “I didn’t know these school robes doubled as a hankie…” He couldn’t resist adding the last quip. The arrogance that flowed from the other boy was enough to make Jean-Luc vomit. He reminded the pureblood so much of the typical aristocrat types he dealt with on a daily basis.
