Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Amaryllis Gannon

Birthday: 3 April 1951

Hometown: Blessington, Ireland

Bloodline:
Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Transfiguration

Year (pick two): First, Second

Biography:
She wasn't one to change her mind. Amaryllis was not going to attend school. Simple. Done. A kid had options. She was smart, she was quick on her feet, she was good with little kids and animals, she had plenty to offer the world. And if no one wanted to give her a job immediately, there was always the circus. Or so she'd heard. Come to think of it, she didn't know a real kid that had actually joined the circus. However, the idea was still vivid enough to create potential... then again, the circus would need her to come with them, so no circus.

Even without the circus as a viable option, Amaryllis was proud of herself. She had listed so many things on a piece of paper, making sure the spelling was correct, and the letters looked neat. There must have been five jobs she knew she was skilled in, and then another five that she was pretty sure would be acceptable to pappa. She was a big girl now, and she had a right to decide whether she was going to go away to school or not. She had even added a cover letter and an estimated savings chart to show her father that attending school would cost more money than staying home with him.

She was proud of it.

Pappa, however, only laughed. It was his nice soft laugh. He wasn't making fun of her, but she almost wished he was because his soft laugh meant that she would never convince him. The man was basically offering a hug before bed or a pat on the head after telling her she wasn't going to get another handful of cookies.

Amaryllis would sigh and accept her fate, all the while madly wondering how anything would be the same. It had been the two of them forever. They'd survived momma getting sick, momma being gone, the move to a big city, the living in a big city; they had figured out how to deal with his new job and her fairly interesting daycare. They had even survived the neighbors! Okay, well, Amaryllis survived them because pappa seemed to actually like them. She was used to the way things were now, just her and her dad.

Amaryllis was excited about school, but that was before she found out that a student had to live at the school. And now, she was supposed to change everything.

There was only one thing she had left to bargain with, and that she did. Amaryllis negotiated with perfect behavior to make her last summer with her father a perfect one.

And maybe, just a little bit, did she continue to try to convince him that she would still love to stay.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request: No idea

Personality:
Amaryllis is pretty set in her ways... you know, as much as an eleven-year-old can be ;) She often thinks she is right. Sometimes she makes a point of it, but usually, she wants to hear other points of view to hone her own... or to support hers! She likes to bicker because of the thrill of it and isn't against offering a point that she doesn't really believe, just to try it out. Amaryllis dislikes change because change was practically a staple of her early life. She seems to fight against change now, but she doesn't understand why. She fears losing her father because he is the only family she has left. On good days she is haughty and argumentative; on bad days, she is sullen and belligerent. She has a lot of growing up to do, and she knows it. She is rather scared of that particularly 'big' change, and school practically embodies that particular fear.

Appearance:
She's on the smaller side with a scrappy build. Amaryllis's primary focus has been her father, a doting man, so she has gained a fairly stable sense of self. At this moment, she has no desire to change anything about her auburn-red hair or pale skin.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Option 2:

It was still early in the term, and nothing felt right. There had been a routine to her mornings with pappa with breakfast and reading before he went to work. Amaryllis didn't realize how much she would miss the simple things until they weren't applicable. Amaryllis wasn't even trying to like the new routine, feeling as if it would be unfair to the old one. A walk was supposed to distract her, and distraction it had provided when another student was spotted on his way to the gardens. It wasn't the first place she would willingly go, but that is why she was following the kid. The boy was older than she was, it seemed, and he was in a bad mood if she ever saw one. Amaryllis wanted to turn around, but she couldn't stop wondering what might bring an older boy into the garden to kick flowers.

When the kid finally noticed her, she stopped and pulled back slightly. When he accused her of loitering, she leaned in as if challenged.

"Oh, oh, and let me tell you that it isn't polite to lolly around giving me something to stare at either! If you didn't want someone to catch you sniffling, you should have found a better place!" Amaryllis knew that there was more to this situation than a kid sniffling in a patch of flowers, but she didn't like when people threw a judgment at her.

Sure, she was starting but couldn't really know that. Had the kid not yelled, she would have let him be. Maybe. So it was his fault, obviously, that she was talking now.

"You know how many children like flowers? And here you are being mean to them."

A pause. "Okay, so, next time I suggest..." something skittered over Amaryllis' foot, forcing her to look down, "Ew! Ohhhh. Do rats like flowers too?"

Biography: (100 words minimum.)
Pappa would be watching.

Boo.

He didn’t like it when she wandered too far and she knew this because she tried a few times. Not fair of course. She knew about everything in the neighborhood. Nothing scary ever happened. People were pretty nice. Ams just had a little bit of trouble with that dog down the road, but only because the lady didn’t like Ams very much. The dog liked her though, and that was what was important!

How was she supposed to know that the mean lady didn’t want puffypuddlespopperbottom to eat yummy treats?! Just a little candy, some sugar glass and chocolate and part of her pudding and more of the sugar glass and more chocolate of course.

He liked all of it! Amaryllis had made a friend, and she was very happy with herself. But then the lady came home and she yelled and got red in the face and seemed to be falling out of her blouse to tear the cute dog away. Maybe, just maybe that lady should consider wearing better fitting clothes...

None of it mattered though, because pappa got an earful and then Ams got an earful, and quicker than slobber flies from a shaking dog, Amaryllis had to pay a price. No adventures. No sweets. No visiting friends. And NO petting puffypuddlespopperbottom.

None of this would have happened if her momma was around. Though she didn’t actually know this as fact, she believed it to be true. Good enough really.

Unfortunately no amount of knowing or wishing would change the next endless forever time of being banished to a room that she hadn’t even gotten used to since the move. Eight years old, and her life was over.

Roleplay:
Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
Pappa finally let her go to the park! Sadly, he insisted on coming with. Adventures just weren’t the same when pappa was watching, but at least she could enjoy the grass again. Maybe she would find something fun to do, but it wasn’t going to be great.

Ams flopped onto the ground, exasperated. Nothing to do. Until there was...

She’d closed her eyes only moments before someone demanded her attention.

“Maybe!” she exclaimed almost as obnoxiously as the girl had sounded.

“What are you playing?” Ams then asked, attempting to hide her excitement.
