Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Linden Ellwood-Luxe

Birthday: 1947

Hometown: West Cross, Wales

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength: Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness: Divination

Year: Fourth, Fifth

Biography:

The first few lines of charcoal pressed haphazardly into parchment looked like nothing at all: they were hazy, insubstantial, formless things, as if merely the suggestion of lines, rather than any real intent to become something.

Linden felt like that, sometimes. Like she might be a great many things.

Or nothing at all.

A skeleton began to take shape, the outlines of Tŷ Penrhos as familiar as the face she saw in the mirror every morning: a facade behind which the entirety of her rather short life had taken place, its walls stalwart against the reality of the world she'd so soon be thrust into.

It was strange, somehow, that her ties to the estate, entrenched as they were—to its wood and brick and glass, and the rolling green land on which it sat, to its history and its legacy and the beating hearts of the residents within its walls—were the cause of her leaving it.

But if fourteen years of life at Tŷ Penrhos were enough to make her an Ellwood-Luxe, would four years at the castle be enough to prepare her to be her great-grandfather's heir? Cassius seemed to think so, and she couldn't pretend to be sorry for it. She'd often wondered what it might be like, to belong to a world outside of the manor. This was her chance (though not a choice, not truly, a distinction she'd come to understand long ago).

Linden sat with her back pressed against the bark of the oldest tree on the estate—more ancient even than Claudio Ellwood-Luxe, she thought, lips tilting—as the image on her parchment solidified. The charcoal rendering was too imperfect, too clumsy for the finer details, perhaps, but it conveyed the sense of home, exactly as she'd intended. Because if Linden was as yet unformed, that was one thing she could rely on: the ground in which she was firmly planted, the ancient roots stretching back before memory.

Linden might be a great many things. But she was an Ellwood-Luxe first.

House Request: Sort me!

Personality: Linden might have been a dreamer, if she weren't so firmly grounded. She sees the beauty in the world, but the ugliness in it too, and she takes both with a grain of salt, determined to be unfazed by both. Practical, clever, and thoughtful, she can often be found with a book in hand—but she doesn't hide behind one, either.

Option II:

Linden often found herself in the gardens during her spare time—the castle, though vast, felt somehow crowded. Though there'd been no scarcity of family members at Tŷ Penrhos, she'd spent her whole life with them. They were as much a part of the manor as the stone and wood.

At the castle, she was unrooted.

So the gardens were a place she could escape, could press her fingers into the grass and imagine some thread of her existence could reach all the way home, tethering her between before and after. She could very nearly imagine herself th—

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

Linden frowned, crossing her arms across her chest as the abrupt exclamation drew her out of her mind and away from the grounds of Tŷ Penrhos. The boy sneezed; clearly the gardens agreed with him about as much as Linden did.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

She arched a single eyebrow, tossing a red curl over her shoulder. "You rather look like the one in need of help." She paused. "And a handkerchief."
