Physical description:
Nicor is an elder gentleman who rarely smiles. His hair and beard has been turning grey for a long time, and his eyes are just as grey and cold – like his son’s. Nicor is a tall, broad shouldered man and is far from frail – he keeps in shape. Mostly wearing suits, blazers or shirts you will never see this man sloppy dressed. Shoes always polished, hair always groomed. A cigar in his mouth, more often than not. Jewelry is something he wears a lot of – necklaces, bracelets and rings. All of the thick and heavy kind – often with the family crest or something related to the kin. Nicor is Head of House Crowley and looks the part.

Personality:
Nicor is an old man of the old ways. He is stubborn and strict, not exactly open minded. School has changed a lot since he went to Durmstrang all those years ago, and Nicor is not likely to think the change is for the better. No, he will most likely disagree to a lot when it comes to how Hogwarts is run. In his opinion men and women are completely different and should be treated as such. Also he is an elitist – like most of his family, and will clearly show favoritism towards those of pure blood – in his opinions muggleborns have nothing to do in a school of magic, but of course he will have to try to suppress these opinions (if he is able to remains to be seen).

Nicor is not a bad man. Although he will frown if his son’s name is mentioned, the man still has a lot of love for the Crowley heir – behind all the disappointment. He is also passionate about knowledge, tradition and what he believes to be good values. If a student would show signs of such, he would surely encourage and reward it.  You will rarely see him smile and even more seldom laugh, and its still a mystery whether or not he actually has a sense of humor that goes beyond sarcasm.

He will correct you. He will give detentions and discipline. He does not forget and hardly ever forgive. But he will also reward hard work and good effort. And who knows – maybe there is a heart somewhere in there, and maybe Hogwarts might be just what it takes to bring it out?

Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?:
His son Geryon had been teaching at Hogwarts for quite a few terms before the Institution scandals that ended up getting him sent to Azkaban. The young man’s career as a teacher was one of the few accomplishments his father Nicor had ever taken pride in, and when it all went down Nicor decided to head to Hogwarts to replace his failure of a boy – more than anything to preserve some good to the family name. And to be honest – the old man was glad to get out of the house for a while. For quite some time now everything had evolved around family matters and the cigar business, and Nicor was getting a bit tired of it all. He needed a challenge, something to use his mind in an intellectual manner again. Something other than business and relations. Hogwarts seemed like a welcomed break. An opportunity.

Biography:

Back then…

Nicor Zellorius Crowley knew to value responsibility and honor from an early age. Graduating from Durmstrang Institute in Russia with top grades, the young man continued to pursue his studies – focusing mainly on finances and economics. Coming from a wealthy family it was key to preserve the knowledge and interest. His marriage was well planned out in the House and as soon as she became of age, Lilith Cheran Rimmon became his wife.

As Nicor was in line to be family head, he and Lilith understood their responsibility to bring another heir into the Crowley line. On Halloween, 1909, Geryon was born. They duty was fulfilled. They had delivered a boy. A heir.

The Ministry of Magic was Nicor’s place of work for most of his career. He served in both the Department of International Magical Cooperation and the Department of Magical Transportation during his employment. This, combined with strong family relations in the upper socialites, made Nicor Crowley a well-known and respected man in the Wizarding community.

Nicor resigned from the Ministry as the family business – Crowley Industries, known for their cigars – started expanding and taking over a lot more of his time. With the passing of his father, Nicor also stepped up as the new Head of family. A title meant to be passed on to his son when the time came. ..But young Geryon was a cause of worry.

The boy had been sorted well into Slytherin at Hogwarts. Passing his classes and seemingly doing well with his subjects. Still, there was no way around it – the child was odd. Eccentric. He had his head in the clouds somewhere and showed nowhere near the understanding of duty and honor his father had known at the same age. And this fascination for animals.. It was not ideal. Not for an heir.

Geryon decided to travel. Pursue his Magizoology studies – despite the disapproval from his parents. Already then the boy began getting in trouble with the law. Crossing boarders where he was not allowed, dealing with forbidden animals and creatures, indulging in shady deals and business… The list was long. Nicor had no choice but to use his contacts in the Ministry and the influence he had gathered to bail his son out of trouble. Again and again and again…

One day the young man decided to open a pet shop in Knockturn Alley. The name “Crowley’s Creatures” was written on the sign. But from there the trouble just escalated. It became a den for even more shady business and illegal deals. After spending a fortune of fines on the boy’s stupid games, Nicor made it clear that the family name was not to be associated with this kind of filth. It became a rough confrontation between father and son, ending with the heir sticking to the name he had already been given by others years ago – Crow.

Geryon was not banished. Lilith would still invite him to every family gathering, and Nicor could not give up hope that one day his only child and heir would step up to the task, and become a true Crowley. Fines and minor offences the son would have to deal with on his own from now, but if there were ever serious charges to be pressed, old Nicor would still show up to save whatever was left of his boy.

At this point in time..

“Nicor, dear. Are you certain this is a good idea? With Gery just being released, with our name still whispered in the alleys?” Lilith put the teapot on the round table. Gave her husband a worried glance, like so many times before.

“Yes, love,” he responded calmly, eyes looking straight ahead, into the air. “That makes it the perfect time. Doing this is most important, and I believe we don’t have much of a choice.” It sounded more of a duty than it was, but Nicor was not going to let this opportunity slip away. For once he was being slightly selfish, but as long as he could hide behind the greater good for the family name he would get away with it.

“But how do you think Gery will take this? You going in there, doing what he used to do. After all he has been through. Nicor dear, you know he was happy there-“

The old man cut her off with a strict glance. Cold, grey eyes. “The boy had his chance, Lilith,” he spat. “Like countless times before. He messed up again. Made a fool of himself and our name. Don’t you think I would like to see him back in that office, doing some good for a change?” Realizing he was half way up from his chair, Nicor took a deep breath and sat back down. Closing his eyes. “If I spend one more day sitting in this house worrying about that boy, it will be the death of me,” he whispered.

Lilith poured the tea. Held her tongue. Her husband would go to Hogwarts to teach, he would leave the house, yes – but she knew, oh she knew for a fact, that he would still not go a day without worrying about their son.

“You think you will be able to do some good there?” she asked after a long pause. “Even at that kind of school?”

Nicor took a sip from his cup and nodded. “These are troubled times, dear. For everyone. And from what I have seen in the Ministry. In Wizengamot. In the streets. People are clueless. Like headless chicken they run around. Children are running their houses – and have you seen our new Minister? Girls don’t even know what they are supposed to be anymore and with the muggleborns-…” he stopped and ran a hand down his face, clearly troubled by the subject.

“Yes, Lilith,” he finished. “ I believe I can do some good. Even there.”

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY

It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with various odds and ends, with a place of honor for the Sorting Hat, and the walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses.

In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order, for the current occupant had always despised a messy desk. It was the sign of a messy mind, and she had always favored neatness.

A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.

Along with order, Anneka valued punctuality. She was a very busy woman these days. Even during the summer, she had a number of matters to attend to. Interviewing and hiring staff was only of those matters. The newest potential member of her staff wasn't making a good impression.

She paced the room, black heels clicking against the stone floor. When the door finally opened, Anneka turned, her expression reminiscent of a Russian winter. "You are late."

Explain yourself was what her face said.

Roleplay Response:

How many things could possibly go wrong in one day?

Already as he sat foot outside the Crowley manor this morning things had begun going south. This bloody reporter would not give him a break and kept digging and asking question about what he referred to as the “horrendous family scandal”. Nicor wanted nothing more than to hex him, but that was not likely to make things any better in the long run.

Instead he’d tried to wave him off as best as he could without causing any kind of scene. Still, the annoying man’s persistence had already caused delay, and when Nicor finally arrived outside the castle, he did not have much time.

Checking his pocket watch countless times, the elder man waited for the house-elf appointed to show him the way. Nicor had been to this castle just once, when his son still attended, and that was quite some time ago. With all the moving stairs and countless hallways it was not exactly easy to navigate. And he did not have time for this.

Finally the house-elf arrived, apologizing to deaf ears as Nicor did not even bother to grace the creature with a reply. Instead he demanded to be shown to the office immediately and shortly after found himself by the door.

"You are late."

Indeed he was. Five whole wasted minutes. “I am awfully aware, Headmistress, and I do apologize,” the man said with a short bow in an apologetic gesture. “I was unwillingly stalled on my way here and then had to wait for that house-elf to show me to your office,” he continued, casting a cold grey glance towards the door before approaching the Headmistress. “Let’s not waste anymore valuable time, shall we?”

Roleplay:
Option Two -
The snow had been falling steadily all morning and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Joshua Campbell scrunched his face up in a frown as he lifted his gaze to look to the sky. Snow. It really was quite a bother.

And it certainly didn't make it better that Diagon Alley seemed to be getting more and more crowded. Joshua sighed and pointed his wand at the large box that was currently placed on the doorstep of his shop. He had to get going. He had an order to deliver.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" The elderly man muttered and watched the box hover in the air for a moment. Honestly, did St. Mungo's really need that much tinsel? And with glitter of all things? He sighed again. If it hadn't been for the rather convincing stamp on the order, he would have been likely to believe it had been a prank by one of those orphaned rascals living up there.

Oh well, there was no point in waiting. Joshua deftly stirred the box down the doorstep and out onto the street, carefully levitating it above the heads of the crowd.

"Coming through! Coming through!" His voice sounded over the chatter of the crowd. "Keep out! Move ahead! Go on!" This was going way too slow. People were in the way and walking like they had all day! He huffed. Luckily the road was down hill.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!" Joshua let out a loud shout as his feet suddenly slipped in the snow and sent him, the box, and several long strands of tinsel tumbling into the person who had been walking in front of him.

"For Merlin's sake!" Joshua muttered angrily as he hurried to his feet again, red and gold tinsel now decorating his black coat. "I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" He looked apologetic at the person he had crashed into.

Roleplay Response:
Nicor was wandering through the snowy streets of Diagon Alley after finishing a meeting at the bank. Business had to be done – even in winter. For his old age, the man was moving rather quickly down the busy streets, crowding with people rushing in every direction. This had only been the first appointment for the day and there was no time to waste on strolling about.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!"

This was the last thing Nicor heard, before suddenly feeling a thump in the back, a rain of something hit him – and it was not the snow. The man had stopped. With a frown on his face he realized his black coat shoulders were now covered in glittery tinsel.

"For Merlin's sake!"

Turning around it became apparent that the man had simply fallen over and was – just as Nicor – now covered in the decorations of festivity.

"I am so sorry! This blasted snow!"

Brushing off some tinsel of his shoulder, Nicor let out a little snigger before reaching for his wand. “Not to worry, my good man,” he said, flicking his wand, proceeding to remove some more glitter.  “This weather can prove malicious at times.”
