Biography: (100 words minimum.)

"Appearance," Reyna Aitken said. "If you have to, pretend." And so, that was how Minita looked upon every single moment of her life. Appearance and pretending. Whenever her parents had someone over, whenever her siblings talked about Hogwarts, Minita kept up her appearance and pretended. She didn't just pretend when she had to -- she pretended every single day of her life. She squashed down her emotions, she forced every single rogue feeling into a bottle and refused to let it go. It helped her forget.

Forget that, no matter how hard she tried, magic would never come to her.

The problem was, it was always proof. Whenever she tried, Minita hid from people. She tried to hide from the world. Despite how much coaxing there was, Minita would oftentimes hide in her room for a period of two days, eating food that she stashed there or food left behind the door, brought by her parents or one of her siblings. Both of her siblings were tutored privately, allowing Minita to see everything. The magic, the wonder, the life of magic.

For seven years, Minita refused to go outside. After she was two, she shut the windows, convinced her parents to nail boards, stayed inside and only played when people went into the house. She buried herself in books, in wonderlands for her, reading about the spells and the sheer magic of it all. Her eyes would widen, smiling like stars as she read. Birthdays were less than nothing to Minita. They were when she would hide in her books even more.

When Minita turned nine, her parents decided that it was enough. They were purebloods. Having a squib child may be an embarrassment, but having a squib child that would hide in the house, not letting herself be seen? That meant that the child was an embarrassment, and perhaps so hideous, they would not let her be seen. They still loved Minita, but they also needed their appearance. If they needed to, they would pretend. Minita stepped outside onto the grass for the first time in six years.

For the first time in six years, Minita breathed. And she loved it.

The trees -- they were so green! And the sky, oh the sky and the wind. It was freeing in a way that her siblings and her parents couldn't understand. Because, when she was out here, she didn't need to pretend so much. She was magical. Her siblings mocked her, always. They teased her, insulted her, mocked her...but they loved her, and Minita loved them too. (Most of the time.)

From that day on, Minita understood the insults. She understood why people would insult, but she still pretended. However, she still breathed and every single day, she would breathe, pretend, lie, try to keep up appearances, lie, pretend...oh, but she would breathe and that was how she looked upon the world. Not breathless, but always full of breath. It helped -- she could breathe.

It was still difficult, however, to be a part of magic, yet not be a part of magic. To love life, yet to despise it. Simple things -- gentle things. Things such as moving something out of the way with only a flick of the wand. Things such as being able to make sparks, and ooh and aah as the flew away. Simple things, such as Quidditch were not how she was. In a way, she breathed, but she was still only half alive in the magical world.

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Minita squinted against the sun, staring at the clear blue sky. It was so large, a prospect that she had never gotten used to. True, for one years had she seen the sun and basked in it, but it was still strange. The sky was so blue and Minita had only begun to realise exactly how much she had missed out on. Not that she'd admit that she was wrong, of course, but still.

Sitting on the grass of Godric Park and breathing in the smell, the feel, Minita looked over to where her siblings were chatting. Shrugging, Minita turned her eyes to the sky again, only to see three broomsticks. Her breath was shoved back down her throat as her gaze hardened, glaring at the broomsticks that dared have fun in her presence. She would go with her father to his meetings, but she would not stare at the world that she was missing out on and not be there.

Taking deep breaths, Minita managed to get her feelings under control. She could not lose her temper like that -- not so simply, not so easily. Her eyes fell on another young girl who was trying to get up into the sky on a toy broomstick. Her lips quirked upwards and she smiled slightly as she noted the girl also unable to fly.

As the girl walked over to her, though, Minita instantly bristled. How rude. "Sorry," Minita said, squashing down her emotion and replacing it with a peaceful and apologetic expression. "I do not want to play, especially not with that." She gestured towards the toy broom and then to the broomsticks up in the sky. "I think that my siblings might be a tad bit more interested, though. Why don't you go ask them?" she asked as politely as possible, trying to get the girl off her back.
