Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Ares Aleksander Alricsson

Birthday: 20/9/57

Hometown: Valencia, Spain

Bloodline:
Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Transfiguration

Year (pick two): Firstie, please! Or second.

Biography:
The 30th of April 1959 is Ares’ earliest memory. He was not yet two years old but the birth of his little sister changed an essential part of him. Some children would hate having a sibling. Some others might love their sibling and like having a playmate. Ares saw his role as the older sibling even deeper than that. As soon as Essie (his nickname for Esmeralda from the very beginning) was born, Ares felt a sense of duty to protect her. Nothing bad would happen to her as long as he stood next to her.

This feeling didn’t extend to anyone else for years. Ares could be a bit mean when he didn’t like people and that happened more often than not. His thoughts were rather practical for a young boy so he didn’t often feel like he had much in common with other kids. He used talking down to them as a defense mechanism so he’d be left alone.

Every once in a while, though, someone would slip through his defences and he’d find himself deeply attached to them. After his sister it didn’t happen again until he was eight and met a fairy princess called Aurora Marshall.

She should have been high on his list of people he
didn’t like. The girl with midnight hair barely existed in reality, seeming to live more among the clouds (where her head always seemed to be) and the stars that Ares liked to study.

That was probably why he overlooked reason and found Aurora to be one of his favourite people so quickly. She belonged with the stars because she was as bright as any of them that lit up the night sky. Even at eight he recognised how rare she was and volunteered himself to be her protector.

It worked in Ares’ favour, then, that his parents were able to live and work in both Spain and the United Kingdom. He wanted to spend time there more and more. Not only because his new best friend lived there, but the cooler weather was more to his liking as well.

It was also the place that held Hogwarts, where so much of his parents’ history took place and where he would eventually create his own story. Ares would learn that they did not allow witches and wizards who couldn’t perform magic into the school. It would destroy a piece of him not to be able to build his Hogwarts story with his best friend, but Ares would always push through and overcome any challenge set before him.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: He’s a Gryffindor or a Slytherin, let the hat decide which!

Personality:
Always has a quiet sort of confidence. Isn’t a fan of most people and he’s okay with that. He prefers a small inner circle. He can be charismatic if he really feels the need. Same goes for leading. Prefers not to be in charge in most situations but won’t stand for weak leadership either. Fiercely protective of those he loves and that extends to others to a lesser degree. He wouldn’t risk his life for just anyone but he’d probably at least check on them after he saves everyone else he finds more important first.

Appearance:
A mess of blonde hair that ranges from sun-streaked in the summer to a darker blonde in cooler months. His eyes are a bright blue but most people will find them to have a harshness or a judgy edge to them. They only soften for certain people. Slightly above average height for his age and a little on the skinny side. Most of the time his clothes are neatly kept and wrinkle free, even if it’s just jeans and a sweatshirt.

You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Roleplay Response:
"H-h-hello?"

Ares stopped his progress to the front doors of the castle at the sound of the uncertainty of the voice flowing from somewhere in the dungeons. A huge sigh issued from between his lips, his chin dropping down toward his chest as he felt his plans slipping away.

He’d been on his way to the forest for some archery practise. The string had been a little loose the last time he’d practised so he’d been working on it for the last week, hoping to get the perfect adjustment. It might be a little longer before he could test out his handiwork now.

He turned down into the entrance of the dungeons, searching for the owner of the voice. It had reminded him too much of Esme, or Aurora, needing help and he could deny the two of them nothing. Even though he knew the girl was neither of them, he couldn’t help the instinct to shield someone who might be scared.

He would probably regret this. He usually did if it wasn’t someone he truly cared about and that list was very short.

When the girl called out again, Ares turned quickly and went down the corridor her voice seemed to be bouncing around in. When he came across her, he placed a shoulder against the nearest stone wall, set his bow against it by his feet and watched her for a few moments.

Finally he asked, detachment in his tone despite his going out of his way to check on her, “You need actual help or are you really looking for one particular ghost in a castle full of them?”
