Biography:

Cadmus Harlow was born to a wealthy pureblooded family who lived in the beautifully picturesque county of Cheshire. He was a clever man who strived for the best in order to make the family proud. Always one to pride himself upon intelligence and appearance Cadmus was the centre of every soiree and in a sense the belle of every ball. With his slick looks and naturally flowing charm there was no surprise when he attracted much female attention and he seemed to revel in it which was a flaw he had never dealt with and probably never would.

When it came for young Cadmus to be married he found his popularity with the ladies grew twofold but there was one young lady whom he had had his eye on for a while. She was quite and reserved but he found her soft, delicate features and above average intellect to be highly intriguing and he took to her immediately as she did to him. Her name was Isla Meriweld and though her family didn’t hold such great status in the Wizarding World and her weren’t the most wealthy or influential, Cadmus loved her all the same and still did. Ember had been told many times about the story of how her parents met and she believed it to be the most beautiful love story ever told, though she thought she may be a bit bias on the subject.

After 3 years of wonderful marriage Isla fell pregnant with her first child and was blessed with a baby boy whom they named Xavier Tobias Harlow. He was a quiet boy who kept to himself. He was anything any parent could ask for, intelligent, polite and neat but he was rather shy which meant he struggled to make friends. This didn't bother Xavier one bit as he'd much prefer to crawl into a secluded area of the library with his favourite book and snuggle up till tea time. Isla and Cadmus tried and tried to integrate Xavier in with the other kids but were never successful. Both were pleased however when he received near perfect grades at both O.W.Ls and N.E.W.Ts.

Ember Cordelia Harlow was born to the young couple 7 years later. She was a beautiful baby girl though most unexpected. The pair loved their daughter who always had a smile for everyone. Growing up, her parents soon realised that Ember was nothing like her brother Xavier. She was bright, bubbly and very chatty even with people whom she wasn't all too familiar with. Ember was a real girly girl and enjoyed hosting tea parties with her stuffed animals in the garden when friends were too busy to come and play.

Xavier intrigued Ember greatly and she was often found sitting with him and generally just spending time with him. When in his cheerier moods Xavier enjoyed reading to his little sister and attempting to teach her bits of knowledge here and there. Although close, Ember tended to rather irritate her older brother much of the time. Xavier tended to base all his thoughts on knowledge whereas Ember had a wide imagination which she occasionally let run wild and Xavier can't keep up with her. Having demolished his imagination long ago by inhaling too many 'Library fumes' as he would call them he could not understand the things his sister would discuss about magnificent unknown worlds. Although Ember described them thoroughly to him many times he would not accept their existence until he had stumbled upon it in a book.

Personality
Ember is an imaginative and friendly girl. Always the one to make the first move when initiating a friendship. Making friends just so happens to be one of her favourite things to do. She's really girly and enjoys creative work. She spends her time sewing her own clothes and customising pieces bought for her by her parents. Ember also enjoys reading, many of her favourite books come from the Victorian, Edwardian or Georgian era which shows in the clothes she wears. Ruffles, lace and pearl buttons adorn the floors of Ember's bedroom but she knows where everything is so she doesn't feel the need to tidy.

Although she is friendly Ember is easily intimidated in a crowd. She never had many friends and has always lived in a rather secluded and quiet area so is use to the sounds of the countryside. Ember also enjoys giving random gifts to her friends, she believes there is nothing more beautiful than the ability to make someone smile. This is what she basically lives for, the happiness of herself and others.

She seems cheerful at all times though underneath Ember worries quite a bit. She's always been a worrier and she isn't sure how to stop. She wishes she didn't care about the consequences of her actions and that she was spontaneous like some of her friends, like her best friend Eloise. Eloise always somehow persuades Ember to come along on her little adventures though Ember is left feeling worried as to whether what she is doing is right or not. She likes rules, rules makes her feel safe but she supposes everyone has to break a couple now and then. Just to keep the balance.

Appearance
Ember takes completely after her mother in her looks. She is very tall for her age standing at about 5"6 which she dislikes. She hates being the one to stand out in a crowd when she is trying to blend in and not draw attention to herself. Ember has fair skin without freckles which saddened Ember slightly as many of her friends have them and she has always want some 'sunshine sparkles' for herself. She also has medium length blonde hair which she curls into ringlets as she believes it frames her face nicely and brings out her blue eyes. Her eyes she believes are her best features and she enjoys finding blue type colours with which they match. So far there is the Perylyn Lake down the road from her home and the little hat on their statue swan kept outside their house of the same name as the lake. Ember also likes her smile as it is the thing that brings most happiness to people. She always says, you smile to warm the heart of the receiver which in turn warms your own.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY

Option II:

“Oh, come now!"

Astrid Bixby’s voice carried down the corridor, the tall blonde girl not far behind. Her interviewer – or victim, depending on perspective – turned a corner and she frowned. They were always so elusive when she needed them. Sure, they would talk as if there was no tomorrow during class, but once she actually needed them to say something, they were nowhere to be found. Gryffindors.

Flustered, Astrid stopped in the middle of the corridor and stared, her parchment hanging limply from her hand. She was a good reporter, really, and she always did her best to make sure that everything she wrote was accurate. She glanced down to the quill, eyeing it with disdain. It wasn’t her fault if her quill misquoted. How was she supposed to know? It made for interesting articles, at least, and if she had misquoted the Head Boy last term as saying he had a love for stuffed animals, then that gave him personality. Astrid sighed.

A pout formed on her lips as she turned away, discouraged. The corridor was mercifully empty, though the doors to The Spellbound – the school newspaper – were ominously closed. Corbridge was a mercifully sweet editor, but Astrid was terrified of disappointing her all the same. She had to come back with quotes.
Her eyes, blue, trailed her surroundings before choosing a new path, and she turned down a new corridor. A figure was ahead, and her eyes lit up, an impossibly rosy smile blossoming across her lips.

“Hey!” Astrid called, her voice light and singsong. She trotted to catch the person, her shoes clicking on the stone floor. “Wait up! It’s for the paper!” Her legs aided her admittedly poor running, and Astrid gasped as she came closer. “What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

Sample Roleplay Response: The corridor was quiet, it reminded Ember of home and she liked it. Closing her eyes as she let her feet take her where she needed to go she could almost smell the crisp wet grass, dewy fresh from the morning sweep. Ember believed the Dew Fairies came round daily to paint the blades with little specks of dew ready for the new day. She'd tried many times to catch them out, but she never woke up in time. She suspected the fairies and their sleeping powders.

Her arms swept by her sides gently her eyes opening as she felt the sunlight streaming in from a nearby window upon her face. The sunshine always made everyone happy. Ember liked to compare herself to the sunshine. When the sunshine wasn't there, people were sad, waiting for it to come back and when it did it made people smile and be happy again. Ember liked the sun, it made things bright and more beautiful.

As she rounded the corner Ember heard footsteps behind her. The sound pattered along the hallways echoing around till it reached Ember's ears. A smile formed across her face as the sound took her back to Lake Perylyn. It was her favourite lake, her little piece of heaven. The way the water lapped at the shallow white sands where they met together as one, how it flowed almost rhythmically when it was disturbed by a stray leaf. The thought of lounging by the side of Lake Perylyn once again made Ember giddy, she absolutely loved it there.

“Wait up! It’s for the paper!”

Slowing down her pace so that the person struggling to keep up with her had a chance to catch up. Ember Stopped in the middle of the corridor and stepped to the side to allow any other people that may wish to travel down the corridor to pass before turning to face the person who had been wanting to talk to her.

“What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

Ember scrunched up her nose. She didn't like the sound of poor frogs having their legs cut off just to kill the hunger of someone else. She was pretty sure those frogs would much rather be swimming in a cool pond, kicking back on a lily pad to relax. Unless said frogs had signed an arrangement where they are open to having their legs chopped off and stir fried with a bit of onion then it was fine by Ember, but she was fairly sure that wouldn't be happening.

"Well, I personally believe the frogs deserve a little bit more respect than that. How would you like your legs being chopped off and fed to frogs for dinner?"

Ember hadn't meant to be rude, it was just the way the words had come out. She smiled pleasantly at the girl hoping she would understand what she'd meant and not take it the wrong way.
