Biography:
The McCormick family is a collection of loud and chaotic personalities, but after eleven years with them, they’re not difficult to define. Lily is brave. Scarlet is passionate. Fin is a troublemaker. Cherry is wild. Wyatt is good-natured. Parker is a handful. Delilah...well, she’s too young to tell, but he’ll learn about her soon enough.
In a crowd of children and chaos, it's easy to miss one young face, especially when it's the exact same as another. Joseph James McCormick, better known as Joey, perhaps even better known as Fin's twin, is no stranger to following behind. He's loved and lived with the McCormicks long enough to know how to make them happy, and usually, that involves following and planning more than a few schemes. He's also loved and lived with his family long enough to know them. Observant, perceptive, sensitive, and thoughtful, Joey can tell all kinds of stories about the family and friends he cares for so deeply. His intelligence and perception are not always obvious, but Joey is pretty sure he knows how to define the people in his life.
Fin, his twin and closest confidant from the beginning (but for the first three minutes, which Joey will never stop reminding anyone of), is a leader. Bold and bright, adventurous and charming, he's a force to be reckoned with. Rosie, his best friend in the whole world who's not a McCormick, is a leader too. She's creative and colorful and she never backs down from doing and saying exactly what she wants. Lily, Scarlet, Nari, Oxford, Maeve, Mara, Addie...they are his family and friends and he is learning more about them and knowing them more and more as he goes along.
But then, there's Joey himself. And that is where he comes across a problem.
How do you define Joey McCormick?
Maybe he's defined by what others say about him. He has a good memory; he remembers things even better when they're opinions of him, but who doesn't? Joey is close with his family and has made a whole lot of friends. He knows what they say.
They say Joey McCormick has a heart of gold. He is genuinely kind and knows of no other way to be. There's not a mean bone anywhere in his body, and it's unknown whether he's capable of any insult at all. No one's heard him say one yet. Instead he's all about support, encouragement, building others up, and kindness. He's observant enough to notice the little things and kind enough to compliment people on them.
They say Joey McCormick is optimistic, sometimes to the point of idealism. He just wants the world to be the best it can be, and he wants to be part of that improvement. He believes the best of the world and its inhabitants, and he only wants to trust and see the good in them, even when they prove him wrong. He loves the outdoors, nature, animals, and adventures, and would be happy running around all day, imagining new lands to explore and epic quests to embark on then bringing them to life. He loves people, making new friends, and chaotic adventures and calm conversations alike. He would be happy with any means of connection and mutual understanding. He would be happy with anything, really; he just wants to live without worry and be happy. And why wouldn't he? There are so many reasons to!
They say Joey McCormick is curious, thoughtful, and sensitive, perhaps a little too much so. Despite his penchant for chaos and the fact that he's a McCormick, he's actually a remarkably mature eleven-year-old in logic and emotion. He wants to know all about the world and its people, and he's always full of questions. He's usually pretty in tune with emotions and often notices when something is wrong. All he wants is to be a good friend, but sometimes his constant observations, questions, shows of affection, and promises of trustworthiness and support are a little...much.
They say Joey McCormick is a little too clingy and afraid to be alone. A little too emotional. A little too sensitive to criticism and unkindness. A little too vulnerable, a little too easy to hurt. A little too naive and foolish. Maybe even easily manipulatable because all he wants to do is trust and believe and give chances. He believes everything can always get better, but not every lining is silver. They say he's a little too well-meaning and innocent. Maybe it’s too good to be true. Maybe all his cheer is inauthentic and he’s nothing but a fake without it.
Okay, they haven't said all that. But sometimes people say things like that, and it'll only come up more as the years go by. When he was younger, it was acceptable to be happy-go-lucky, without a care in the world but making friends. But now? Now, Joey McCormick is eleven years old. He's going to Hogwarts. He's going to learn magic and enter a whole new chapter in his life.
And when he stops to think about it, he has a strong idea of who everyone is...but him.
He prefers not to think about it, and for a while, he won't. But years of idyllic family life with the chaotic and magical McCormicks in their beautiful home outside Godric's Hollow have been full of just that. For all his curiosity, he’s yet to question his idealistic perspective of his home life (which may not be completely accurate), and there was never any reason to think about it before. But now, surrounded by unique individuals with personalities all their own, Joey starts to wonder what his is, and someday, he will be forced to confront the question at the center of this new chapter:
How do you define Joey McCormick?
→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
House Request: Sort him as you please, but I think we know where he's going :)
Personality:
Tell us a bit about your character’s personality (likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) What are they like on a good day versus a bad one? Is your character particularly cheerful? Do they hate sunlight?
Joey McCormick likes almost everything. He's particularly fond of his family and friends, adventuring, playing outside, animals, plants, sweets, food, listening, talking, stories...the list goes on. He's happy with pretty much everything. Predictably enough, he holds no fondness for people who are coldhearted, unkind, manipulative, and selfish, though he will not treat them the same way they treat him or others. He's not the type to stoop that low, which could infuriate the wrong people in the future. For some, he may be too clingy, curious, questioning, and affectionate - nauseatingly good. He is a little too desperate and eager to please, since all he wants is for people to like him. That could very well make them do the opposite.
Most of Joey's days are good days because he makes them that way. He's relentlessly optimistic and is fully convinced that you can make every day good if you look hard enough for its silver linings. On the very rare occasions this doesn't happen, he's an entirely different person. He'll go from loud and chaotic but also calm and kind (he is getting very good at knowing who needs him to act certain ways, or sometimes it depends on the situation) to quiet and withdrawn. He's not surly or sullen, and he doesn't even frown much. The marked difference is in the fact that he doesn't smile like always. This simple fact alone doesn't require any outstanding change for it to be obvious that something is wrong with Joey. All it takes is a lack of sunshine for everyone who knows (and notices) him to ask what's wrong.
When it comes to fears, there aren't many. He loves animals, including typically fearsome ones. He's totally fine with heights and the dark. What gets to him are his connections and relationships and his deeply ingrained fear of losing them. Whether he loses them from death, injury, or them deciding to hate him, he is terrified of it. Simply put, Joey McCormick is desperately afraid of being alone - mostly true loneliness, but sometimes being physically alone too. If he thinks this will happen, he'll do anything to not let go. That's where clinginess and fear of change could easily devastate him someday.
Appearance:
Exactly the same as Finlay McCormick. Dark brown hair. Average height. Emotional and expressive green eyes. Skinny; could gain muscle if he wanted to but is usually just scraped up from running around. Almost always bright-eyed and smiling. He tends to match the pace of whoever he's with, but when walking alone, he usually moves quickly - more because he has a lot of energy than because he's in a rush.

Option I:
It was not the first time eleven-year-old Joey McCormick had been to the dungeons. That didn’t mean he had to like it.
The first time he’d been here was with Fin in their quest to explore the entirety of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They’d been quite sure they could manage it in the first two weeks, if not just one, but they were quickly discovering it would be a lot harder than they anticipated. They were two young boys in a massive castle full of secret corridors and hidden rooms, and it would be no easy task to find them all. However, said boys were McCormicks and would surely soon be known as “those twins” castle-wide. They’d manage it sooner or later.
So that was the first time, running down the dank corridors and attempting to mentally map twisting passageways with the boy who shared his face, history, and secrets by his side. This, however, was not the first time. This was the second time Joey McCormick had been to the dungeons, and the first time he dared to wander around down there on his own.
Well, he didn’t dare to. Nari Parker dared him to. Why she wanted him to traverse the dark and damp dungeons alone, he didn’t know. Maybe she thought it would be an interesting experience since he was hardly ever alone, or maybe she just thought it would be funny. Either way, here he was, not wanting to turn down a dare, especially when delivered by one of his closest friends. He didn’t want to let her down, but he was starting to wish she would have come with him.
If asked why, he’d say it was simply because he didn’t like the dungeons and anything was better with a friend, especially when it wasn’t pleasant; at least then he would not be alone and had someone to experience it with him. That was not wrong, but there was a deeper truth to it. Joey McCormick did not like to be alone. Sure, he could do it if he had to, but nothing was ever as good by himself. Solo adventures? They could still be fun, but they’d be better with someone else to see the things he didn’t and tell stories about it with him later. Studying? He didn’t do that yet, but he imagined it’d be helpful to have someone to quiz him and give him hints. Eating? Boring if he was by himself. What was he supposed to do if he couldn’t talk to someone? Just eat? No way.
So being alone in the dungeons? Not his favorite thing in the world.
The sound of his soft humming floated down the corridor as he absentmindedly kicked at a loose stone. How long did he have to stay down here to fulfill the dare? Surely not much longer, right? It wasn’t like Nari was waiting at the top of the stairs with a stopwatch, ready to determine if he completed her dare or not. He could probably just turn around and leave right now if he wanted to.
And he almost did...but then he heard a voice.
He froze in place, initially unable to make out the words to determine if it was friend or foe. He didn’t have any foes, but still, he wanted to observe the situation just in case. But this obviously wasn’t a case; the question for Emma Birch sounded too much like a girl his age to be anything but a potential future friend. And maybe, if he was lucky, an ally to take on the dungeons with. Nari didn’t have to know he wasn’t alone the whole time, right?
He hurried toward the sound of the voice a little too quickly. “I don’t think Emma Birch is here, but Joey McCormick is! Hi! Who’s Emma? Why are you looking for her?”
