Biography:

About Isobel’s Father:
Archibald Duncan Sinclair, the father of a spitfire of a girl by the name of Isobel and two sons grew up the youngest of ten boys.  Consequently, he was often overlooked by his parents. He tried everything he could think of to get his parents’ attention, be it positive or negative, but nothing seemed to work.

That was until his 11th birthday.

On his 11th birthday a mysterious letter delivered by a tawny owl with a curious crest of an eagle, badger, snake, and lion on it appeared inviting Archibald to attend a boarding school called Hogwarts. He was visiting his paternal grandparents and great grandparents in Wisk on summer holidays.

At that point, Archibald finally received the attention all he had been seeking from his paternal grandparents, and great grandparents as they squealed in delight as Archibald read the letter. Shortly thereafter they recounted a family legend.

The Sinclair Family Legend

The legend was that many hundreds of years ago the Sinclair family had been given the great gift of magic from the Lord above which allowed Sinclair members to help heal many health ailments, successfully farm in some of the toughest places found in Northern Scotland and protect its members.  There were even some that apparently possessed the magic of foresight.  As a result, the family thrived for a very long time.

The family in turn, to say thank you, originally used their gifts to help others in need in some of the most remote places of Northern Scotland, even those not part of the family and to protect the downtrodden and helpless.

But then it is said that some of the men started becoming very greedy and no longer used their gifts in a way that pleased God. Instead of helping the unfortunate, they took to tinkering in darker magic and began to use their gifts for conquest and subjugation.  Several family members spoke out against their atrocities, but those men refused to stop.

It is said that those men had so greatly displeased God that soon the once rampant gift of magic dwindled until it was nearly nonexistent.  However, not all news supposedly news was grim or grave news.

One of the last women thought to have foresight in the family was recorded as having seen a vision and given a prophecy that one day magic would once again run rampant in the bloodline. However, it would not happen until the family had made amends for the atrocities. No one knew how long that might be.

More About Isobel’s Father

There had been some rare occasions where a family member had magic, of course, mostly female members, but those cases were few and far between.

Consequently, when Archibald was given an invite a to prestigious magical school like Hogwarts, the news traveled quickly, especially among the older generations of the family and a ton of ruckus was made about it. He went from being a practically unknown to the most popular member of the family in a matter of days.

Even so, having remembered the story his great grandparents and grandparents had told him, he never abused his gifts, kept level-headed, and studied hard at Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw. Once he graduated from Hogwarts, he studied further so he could become a Healer at St. Mungo’s.

After Archibald completed his training at St. Mungo’s, he stayed on as a Healer for five years.  However, he eventually decided to go back into the muggle world. He did this because he believed the nonmagical world needed his help more than the magical one.

Consequently, he went to medical school at the University of Edinburgh to become a general practice doctor. After he graduated, he practiced medicine in Edingburgh for two years before he decided to set up his own private practice in Thurso.

Archibald has continued to run and maintain that medical practice to this very day. Even though his medical practice is found in the muggle world, he makes house calls to fellow witches and wizards’ homes all around Northern Scotland if they need a Healer and can’t travel to St. Mungo’s.  He does this when he is not at his own muggle practice on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and every fourth Saturday.

About Isobel’s Mother

While in Edinburgh, Archibald fell for a fiery-haired fellow Highlander by the name of Rowan Isobel Caird.  It all started while he was walking to a small café for lunch after a long, tough, morning at university during his sophomore year in the pre-med program.  On the way, he saw a petite, fair-skinned, fiery-red haired young lady taking her German Shepherd for a walk get jumped by a duo of thugs as she rounded a corner down an alley for no reason.

Normally Archibald was good about not leaping into things without thinking, but this time the protective instinct that was so strong in him when it came to protecting women and children overpowered any common sense he had. Before long the somewhat burly Archibald Duncan Sinclair found himself in a fight against two as he tried to get the men off the young lady.

Paired with the growls and bites of the dog and his knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, he managed to get the thugs off the young lady and recover her purse, with mild injuries sustained, but not before a couple of cops on their rounds went to see what all the ruckus was. He ended up in jail for the night, but the young woman he had rescued apparently had some significant pull regarding the police in that part of Edinburgh because after she had spoken up on his behalf, Archibald was released on probation.

And that was when the two started seeing more of one another.

Archibald dated her all throughout the rest of his undergraduate study at the University of Edinburgh. After the graduation ceremony he, wanting more from their relationship knew he couldn’t keep the beautiful Rowan oblivious to the fact that he was a wizard. Therefore, before he proposed to her and took her to visit his parents and relatives, he explained his experience as a Healer at St. Mungos and that he was a wizard.

At first, she thought he was joking and was shocked, but she was so in love with Archibald too, she promised it didn’t bother her. If anything, she became incredibly curious about what this other world was like. Shortly thereafter, the two of them bought a flat together near a beautiful park. One month later, Archibald proposed to Rowan.

Archibald continued his schooling at the university and after he heard that his future wife’s dream was to own her own flower and herb shop, he used his own money to set her up one for an engagement gift.

Upon completion of his medical degree, the two wed. Rowan continued to manage and run her flower shop while Archibald worked at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for two years.  When both got tired of city living and wanted a quieter and safer existence where they could raise children, they sold their flat and bought a lot of land just outside of Thurso.  They did this so they could build a beautiful countryside manor with many acres of magnificent gardens there.

For the first year while the young couple's new manor and its magnificent gardens were being built outside of Thurso, the two stayed with Archibald's parents and grandparent outside of Wick.

Once the manor was built and the couple moved in, Rowan opened another little flower and herb shop in the town of Thurso. Archibald, simultaneously opened up his own medical practice in the same town. Rowan to this day still runs and manages her little business.

Rowan is a very kind-hearted, patient, sincere woman who likes to spoil her only daughter despite her wild child tendencies.  Rowan’s biggest weaknesses are perhaps that she is too trusting and caring of others and can be considered a bit naïve when outside of Thurso. Also, she is not very strict when it comes to her daughter’s antics that are not considered ladylike in the upper echelons of society.

About Isobel’s Siblings:
Duncan Ian Sinclair, the first of three children was born on June 3, 1947.  Unlike his father, he did not possess any magical abilities and is currently starting his studies in Law at the University of Cambridge. Duncan is envious of Isobel and his younger brother Lachlan because they both have magical abilities, but he does not.

Consequently, Isobel does not have a strong relationship with her oldest brother, but she has admired him for getting into the University of Cambridge. Duncan is a stoic, reserved, well-spoken young man with dark hair just like his father.

Lachlan Grant Sinclair, the second of three children was born on January 12, 1949.  Surprisingly along with his younger sister Isobel, he was born with magical abilities.  He has a knack for Summoning/Conjuring.

He has always been Isobel’s “Great Protector” and has a fiery temper to match his fiery hair when it comes to anyone hurting or messing with his sister.  He is most definitely a burly and strong boy, and it would be wise to stay on his good side.

He would like to play Beater on the House Quidditch team at Hogwarts one day and likes to Duel.

He was sorted into Gryffindor and despite his temper and tendency to react before always thinking through things fully, he is fiercely loyal to family and friends and does slightly above average academically.  He is thinking he might want to be an Auror one day but hasn’t made up his mind completely.  Isobel is very close to Lachlan.

About Isobel:

Isobel is the youngest child and only daughter of Rowan Isobel Caird and Archibald Duncan Sinclair. Isobel was born on February 8, 1951, during a particularly nasty storm in the middle of the night at her paternal grandparents’ estate in Wisk while her father oversaw the delivery of his wife.  She didn’t want to come out and the joke to this day is that Isobel came into this world fighting for something (not to come out, yet) and that she will probably exit this world fighting for something too because she is so contrary with regards to certain things.

Isobel has spent most of her life at her father’s manor and its expansive gardens outside of Thurso, Caithness, but also spends a fair amount of time at her paternal grandparents’ estate outside the fishing town of Wisk in Caithness and at her maternal grandparents’ home in Edinburgh.

Every year her father leaves his medical practice in the hands of his partners for 2-3 weeks in the summer so the family can travel abroad.  Isobel’s favorite place that her family and her have traveled to is Interlaken, Switzerland because of all the outdoor activities available there along with the breathtaking scenery that has always taken Isobel's breath away each time she has visited that magical place.

For her primary education, Isobel attended the muggle school during the week while her father would give her some instruction in magic focusing mostly on potions, herbology, and some basic charms in the evenings when he came home from work after dinner.  The minute Isobel’s father started teaching her basic magic, Isobel begged her father often to bring her more books on magic for her to read, especially those on herbology and charms.

During the school week at the muggle school, Isobel was in trouble often for roaming off to explore something that grabbed her interest and/or getting into fist fights with other students when they made fun of someone Isobel cared for.  She didn’t have a lot of friends there and was near her brother whenever possible. However, when it came to those select few that she did call friends, she was fiercely loyal to them and had deep connections with them as well.

Despite being in trouble often at muggle school, Isobel received slightly above average grades in academics. She excelled especially in anything science and math related whereas her older brothers excelled in languages, history, and writing.  In that regard, she took after her father Archibald.

At home, try as her father and grandparents did to make Isobel more ladylike, from etiquette lessons to cooking lessons to music and art lessons, nothing worked.

She was as wild as ever and was often found exploring the gardens, outdoors, and climbing trees with Lachlan.

As a result, often her long, fiery red hair was always a mess, tangled, and with bits of debris in it.  Her dresses were always torn as were her stockings. Her arms, legs, and knees were always scraped up.

Unlike her father and grandparents, Isobel’s mother never made a huge fuss out of it.  Even though she was often chastised for her actions by her father and grandparents, Isobel never harbored any hard feelings against them. Ironically enough, she is rather close to her father because it was him who introduced Isobel to a world of magic.

At age 11, like her older brother Lachlan, Isobel received an invite to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and has attended it ever since.  At Hogwarts, she has spent much of her downtime reading and learning everything she can about magic, especially Charms and Herbology.  She hasn’t made a ton of friends because of how overly protective Lachlan is of her and how she tends to keep to herself most of the time.

Isobel’s wild child tendencies have not been completely extinguished at Hogwarts, though they have decreased some, much to her father’s delight because she loves learning all she can about magic. However, she still is found exploring the gardens, greenhouses, and Forbidden Forest, playing in and around the big lake, and exploring the many corridors at the castle often.

She still has little to no interest in womanly things like gossip, makeup, boyfriends, and the latest fashions, but as she grows older, that may change. Even if that does happen, it is very likely that Isobel will still be actively “fighting against” those so-called womanly interests according to her father and grandparents. And they are probably right.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: None, surprise me!

Personality:

Wild-child, fiery temper, loyal to a fault to her family and friends, thirsting for magical knowledge, challenger of the status pro quo of the upper echelons of society, quiet (unless someone she cares about’s honor is at stake), independent, lover of nature and the outdoors, and determined are how people who know Isobel would describe her.

Isobel is most definitely not your typical dainty little girl. She loves to climb trees, explore, learn, travel, and fight those that dare challenge the honor of someone she cares deeply about.  She is fiercely loyal to her family and the few that she considers to be friends.  She will not back-down and retreat like most girls would when someone she cares deeply about is being mocked, tormented, or harassed which has caused her to get into many fights. Consequently, that means she has gotten into much trouble with her family and teachers.

She despises gossip and is not interested in many of the things girls her age are interested in such as makeup, finding a boyfriend, latest fashions, music, etiquette and art.  Rather her loves include exploring nature, climbing trees, travel, Herbology, Botany, Charms, reading and learning all she can about magic, and challenging many of the traditions of the upper echelons of society.  One such tradition Isobel is vehemently against is the common belief that a woman’s place is at home raising a family and caring for her husband, not making her own mark on society by pursuing a career.

Like her father, she believes that people blessed with the gift of magic should not be forced to keep it a secret from muggles, but rather use that gift to help better both the magical and nonmagical worlds.  She firmly believes that if muggles and magic folk could work actively together alongside one another without magic folk being forced to hide their magic from the nonmagical, the world would be a better place. An unrealistic, unpopular, and quite progressive vision of course, but even so it doesn’t stop Isobel or her father from believing in it.

Appearance:

Isobel has brilliant red, wavy, long hair that goes down to her chest, has bright blue eyes, and is relatively petite overall.  When starting off the day her hair and clothing is neat and tidy.  However, it seems like within an hour or two the opposite is quite true because of her constant nature explorations.  By the time she has come back inside, her hair often is a tangled wreck with debris of leaves, dried mud, twigs, grass, and even flower stems and petals scattered throughout it.  This is paired often with torn stockings, a ripped dress or skirt, scuffed shoes, and scraped knees which all in all give her a disheveled, wild appearance that intimidates and disgusts many.  How can a young lady from such a good family be so wild?  That is the first impression of most when they first meet young Isobel.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Response:
Isobel Makenna Sinclair couldn’t stand being forced to dine for breakfast in the Great Hall with snooty students and professors that thought she was a helpless case when it came to ever being a proper lady.

Why was there such an emphasis on being proper all the time?

This was a constant question that raced through Isobel’s mind like wildfire. None of it made sense in her mind.  Honestly, there was far more to life in her opinion than to be all dainty, demure, and proper.  Women had just as much as a right of men to go out into the world and make an impact on it by pursuing a career if they so desired, so why was it those that did break the mold of being all demure and proper were often frowned upon?  It infuriated Isobel something fierce when people tried to stuff that outdated philosophy down her throat.  Seriously, look at how much was accomplished by women in the workforce during the Second World War while the men were off fighting!

Isobel couldn’t handle the condescending looks and judgments of her peers and professors this morning and didn’t feel like getting into another fight regarding it. Not to mention she didn’t fancy another detention to go along with the two she already had. So instead of dining in the Great Hall, she had snuck off to the kitchens to grab a few muffins and some apple juice before having ventured out into the Gardens this fine, brisk, sunny, late September morning to do some more exploring before her classes started for the day.

With her knapsack filled up with books on Herbology and Botany strapped across her back, she meandered down a mulched path in one of her most favorite parts of the Gardens dotted with small fountains here and there surrounded by shrubs and plants of all colors, shapes, and sizes to a small marble bench. There she sat down and gobbled up her breakfast and sipped her apple juice quickly when a patch of brilliant flowers that she didn’t know the name of caught her eye. She was determined to figure out what they were, so she stuffed her garbage into the outside pocket of her knapsack and fished out a flower identification guide as she ventured forth to the flowerbed.  All was quiet and peaceful without another soul in sight.

That was until from the corner of her right eye she could have sworn she saw a fuzzy little creature scurry past her into a row of scraggly, thorny looking shrubs across the way.  She followed what she thought to be the fuzzy blur of a small animal into the scraggly, thorny, shrubs, not caring that her robes were likely going to be torn nor that she was going to be scraped from head to toe out of curiosity.

Shortly thereafter Isobel heard the miffed voice of an older boy asking where his rat was in between bouts of sneezes as he trampled and rummaged carelessly through the beautiful red flowers that Isobel had planned on identifying as soon as she figured out what she thought she had seen. Isobel scowled and cursed under her breath.  So much for peace and quiet.

She was about to give the boy a serious talking to for destroying such beautiful flowers, but before she could do so the older boy had apparently spotted her as he wiped his snotty nose on his clothes and addressed her haughtily.

How rude! And my father and grandparents think I’m uncivilized! , were the thoughts that crossed her mind as she watched such a spectacle.

Furious, frustrated, annoyed, and taking offense to the boy’s haughtiness directed toward her, her fiery temper could not be kept in check and Isobel said curtly,

“First off, has anyone ever taught you what a handkerchief is? I would suggest you learn to use one. And I wasn’t staring. It is a bit difficult for anyone I would imagine to ignore such a spectacle. That is of course unless they were blind.  You can’t help me, but I could have perhaps helped you if you hadn’t been so rude in the first place.”

Isobel paused momentarily before she directed one last insult to the rude, inconsiderate, haughty, disgusting, older boy.

“Oh and by the way it isn’t polite either to destroy such beautiful plants someone has worked so hard on to ensure that they thrive. You most definitely need some training in manners and respect.”

And with that Isobel fell silent as she rolled her eyes in disgust as she placed her book back into her knapsack, purposely not speaking a word about what she had thought she had seen scurry into the thorny shrubs.

About Isobel’s Father:
Archibald Duncan Sinclair, the father of a spitfire of a thirteen-year-old red-haired girl by the name of Isobel, though in succession for the title of Earl of Caithness and Clan Sinclair Head will never see those titles bequeathed on him.  That is unless a monumental, epic catastrophe hit all the Sinclairs of Caithness who are scattered all about throughout Scotland, Ireland, London, and the United States. That is what happens when you are the youngest of ten boys after all.

Isobel’s father today is kind, disciplined, and well-spoken.  Though he is this way today he wasn’t always that way.

As a result of being the youngest of so many, he knew he would have to make a life of his own that didn’t include titles of Earl of Caithness and/or Clan Sinclair Head. Consequently, Archibald started at an early age learning or reading about medicine, law, military service or politics, the only respectable professions for a man from a noble family to pursue as an adult according to his father.

Even though Archibald knew he would never take over his father’s leadership roles, he still wanted to impress him and get his attention.  Sadly, even despite all his efforts, it never came to fruition and even today, Archibald’s relationship with his father is lackluster.

As the years passed, and nothing seemed to work to get his father’s attention, he took to doing whatever he could think of to get his mother’s attention, be it negative or positive.  Nothing worked.

That was until his 11th birthday.

On his 11th birthday a mysterious letter delivered by a tawny owl with a curious crest on an eagle, badger, snake, and lion appeared inviting Archibald to attend a boarding school called Hogwarts while visiting his paternal great grandparents and great grandparents in Wisk on summer holidays.

Isobel is the youngest child and only daughter of Rowan Isobel Caird and Archibald Duncan Sinclair both of Clan Sinclair, but different septs.

However, every year her father leaves his medical practice in the hands of his partners for 2-3 weeks in the summer so the family can travel abroad.  Isobel’s favorite place that her family and her have traveled to is Interlaken, Switzerland because of all the outdoor activities available there along with the breathtaking scenery that has always taken Isobel's breath away each time she has visited that magical place.

For her primary education, Isobel attended the muggle school known as Miller Academy Primary during the week while her father would give her some instruction in magic focusing mostly on potions, herbology, and some basic charms in the evenings when he came home from work after dinner.

However when it came to those select few that she did call friends, she was fiercely loyal to and had deep connections with.

Consequently that means she has gotten into much trouble with her family and teachers.

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms

Biography:

At that point, Archibald finally received the attention all he had been seeking from his paternal grandparents, and great grandparents as they squealed in delight as Archibald read the letter and they recounted a family legend of the Sinclair Clan.

The Sinclair Family Legend

The legend was that hundreds of years ago Clan Sinclair had been given the great gift of magic from the Lord above which allowed Clan Sinclair members to help heal many health ailments, successfully farm in some of the toughest places found in Northern Scotland and protect its members.  There were even some that apparently possessed the magic of foresight.  As a result Clan Sinclair thrived and even crafted their motto as a way to give thanks to the Lord above “Committ thy work to God.“

For a very long time that is exactly what Clan Sinclair members did. They used their gifts to help others in need, even those not part of Clan Sinclair and to protect the downtrodden and helpless. But then some of the men started becoming very greedy and no longer used their gifts in a way that pleased God. Instead of helping the unfortunate, they took to tinkering in darker magic and began to use their gifts for conquest and subjugation.  Many Clan Sinclair members spoke out against their atrocities, both men and women, but they refused to stop, and so that is what caused the downfall of the once great Clan Sinclair.  They had greatly displeased God and soon the once rampant gift of magic dwindled until it was nearly nonexistent and of course Clan Sinclair lost control of their lands, too. God was very angry, but not all news was grim or grave news.

One of the last women of Clan Sinclair thought to have foresight was recorded as having seen a vision and given a prophecy that one day magic would once again run rampant through Clan Sinclair after the clan had made amends for abusing their gifts.

More About Isobel’s Father

There had been some rare occasions where a clan member had magic, of course, mostly female members, but those cases were few and far between.  Consequently, when Archibald was given an invite a to prestigious magical school like Hogwarts, the news traveled quickly, especially among the older generations of Clan Sinclair and a ton of ruckus was made about it. He went from being a practically unknown to the most popular member of Clan Sinclair in a matter of days.

Mungo’s he stayed on as a Healer for five years.  However, he decided to go back into the muggle world which in his opinion needed more help. Consequently, he went to medical school at the University of Edinburgh to become a general practice doctor and after he graduated and practiced medicine in Edingburgh for two years, he set up his own private practice with two other doctors in Thurso.

It all started while he was walking to a small café for lunch after a long, tough, morning at university during his sophomore year in the pre-med program, and saw a petite, fair-skinned, fiery-red haired young lady walking her German Shepherd get jumped by a duo of thugs as she rounded a corner down an alley for no reason.

Normally Archibald was good about not leaping into things without thinking, but this time the protective instinct that was so strong in the men of Clan Sinclair when it came to protecting women and children overpowered any common sense he had, and before long the somewhat burly Archibald Duncan Sinclair found himself in a fight against two as he tried to get the men off the young lady.

Apparently as it turned out, the young woman he had rescued that afternoon was named Rowan Isobel Caird and she was the only daughter of the Chief of Police in Edinburgh at the time.

Archibald dated her all throughout the rest of his undergraduate study at the University of Edinburgh. After the graduation ceremony he, wanting more knew he couldn’t keep the beautiful Rowan oblivious to the fact that he was a wizard, so before he proposed to to her, and took her to visit his parents and relatives, he explained his experience as a Healer at St. Mungos and that he was a wizard.

At first, she thought he was joking and was shocked, but she was so in love with Archibald too, she promised it didn’t bother her and if anything, she became curious about what this other world was like.

They did this so they could build a beautiful countryside manor with hundreds of acres of magnificent gardens there.

For the first year while the young couple's new manor and its magnificent gardens were being built outside of Thurso, the two stayed with Archibald's parents and grandparent outside of Wick, Caithness.

Consequently, Isobel des not have a strong relationship with her oldest brother, but she has admired him for getting into the University of Cambridge.

They did this so they could build a beautiful countryside with hundreds of acres of magnificent gardens there.

For the first year while the young couple's new manor and its magnificent gardens were being built outside of Thurso, the two stayed with Archibald's parents and grandparent outside of Wick, Caithness.

Consequently, Isobel des not have a strong relationship with her oldest brother, but she has admired him for getting into the University of Cambridge.

Isobel is the youngest child and only daughter of Rowan Isobel Caird and Archibald Duncan Sinclair both of Clan Sinclair, but different septs. Isobel was born on February 8, 1952, during a particularly nasty storm in the middle of the night at her paternal grandparents’ estate in Wisk while her father oversaw the delivery of his wife.

However when it came to those select few that she did call friends, she was fiercely loyal to and had deep connections with.

Consequently that means she has gotten into much trouble with her family and teachers.
