Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Hermes Ignatius Robert St.Oswald was born into the The Most Ancient House of St.Oswald, a family that has origins in France, having traveled to England with William The Conquer. It was through this loyalty and support that the family was given land, where the now infamous Highcove Palace now stands, the official residence of his grandfather, the head of the St.Oswald family. Hermes was born the eldest of twins, having arrived into the world ten minutes before his twin brother, Poseidon Armando William St.Oswald, they were born severely premature, their mother only being five months through the pregnancy. Being the eldest of his siblings who were to come along in the following years, he was risen as heir to the families fortune, estate and status in the Wizarding World, the family having accumulated more land, and more money through the ages.
His parents, Adelaide and Pierre raised their four children, Hermes, Poseidon, Albert (Charles Ares), Elizabeth (Sofia Athena) in Greenwich Lodge, a modest stately home in the heart of London. They lived a quiet life, his father working within the Ministry, being close friend to the Minister for Magic, his mother staying at home, running the house as a wife would. It wasn't until his fifth birthday that both him and Poseidon received a letter from Beauxbatons Academy for Magic where they would attend for the best part of their early childhood. It being tradition that St.Oswald children went to Beauxbatons, to make them ever known of their history and ancestry. The entire family moved to the Chateau near the school, where the young children would visit on weekends and through holidays, Hermes always said that was a highlight of his life so far.
The boys would return home to Great Britain ahead of their eleventh birthday where they would receive a second letter asking them to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. When at Hogwarts, Hermes was sorted into Gryffindor, befriending Xavier Donaldson and Nike Parkinson. Being a boy, he would often get into trouble, late homework's, fights in the corridor resulting in detentions and telling offs from his parents, even a strongly worded letter from his grandfather. It wasn't until his fifth year when he found that he wanted to work in the Ministry, having taken a trip there for a careers day. He soon fell in love with the idea of the Wizengamot and government, he probably had a slight power issue, wanting more but with self-help he would see that he wanted to make change rather than for power

Roleplay:
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character:

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Option Two -
The snow had been falling steadily all morning and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Joshua Campbell scrunched his face up in a frown as he lifted his gaze to look to the sky. Snow. It really was quite a bother.

And it certainly didn't make it better that Diagon Alley seemed to be getting more and more crowded. Joshua sighed and pointed his wand at the large box that was currently placed on the doorstep of his shop. He had to get going. He had an order to deliver.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" The elderly man muttered and watched the box hover in the air for a moment. Honestly, did St. Mungo's really need that much tinsel? And with glitter of all things? He sighed again. If it hadn't been for the rather convincing stamp on the order, he would have been likely to believe it had been a prank by one of those orphaned rascals living up there.

Oh well, there was no point in waiting. Joshua deftly stirred the box down the doorstep and out onto the street, carefully levitating it above the heads of the crowd.

"Coming through! Coming through!" His voice sounded over the chatter of the crowd. "Keep out! Move ahead! Go on!" This was going way too slow. People were in the way and walking like they had all day! He huffed. Luckily the road was down hill.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!" Joshua let out a loud shout as his feet suddenly slipped in the snow and sent him, the box, and several long strands of tinsel tumbling into the person who had been walking in front of him.

"For Merlin's sake!" Joshua muttered angrily as he hurried to his feet again, red and gold tinsel now decorating his black coat. "I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" He looked apologetic at the person he had crashed into.

Roleplay Response:
It had been tiring that morning, not getting enough sleep wasn't helping with incredibly difficult day that seemed to be dragging on and on. Paperwork, in the chamber, more paperwork and a meeting with the Chief Warlock, then even more paper work. He was happy to be able to make his way down Diagon Alley for lunch, finding a small cafe he was happy to sit down, and hide away from anyone who would wish to bother him, such as pesky reporters asking for news. News that he was not aloud to give. He had had lunch, a sandwich with a cup of coffee that he always had, it was his usual when he came into the shop. It wasn't until he was heading out, to get back in time for his meeting with, well he wasn't sure, but he had an incline it was the Minister, only he couldn't be too sure. Reluctantly he left, climbing from his seat and buttoning up his suit jacket once more, he had to respectable. He was making his way down the street, nodding to Simon Appleby, smiling to Angela Simpson when he was pushed sideways. He didn't know who it was at first who was lying in a heap in the ground, it wasn't until she was yelling that he recognized the voice that haphazard almost everyday. He straightened out his suit jacket before offering out his hand, he wasn't a horrible person, not at all, only when she was rasping in his ear for news.

Hello Hermes! Welcome HS.net, we're excited to have you join us!

Your application is looking great, we love families with a rich history around here. There are just a few things in your application I would like you to address before it is accepted and you can get to playing with everyone!

The first thing is that you have Hermes' occupation as Speaker of the Wizengamot. We actually have a played Wizengamot on the site and the Speaker is not a played position. You are welcome to have Hermes be a member of the Wizengamot and once you are approved you could send a personal message to the Minister of Magic, Pryce Edgar Hir, and maybe suggest the position. For the time being, please adjust Hermes' occupation.

The second issue are Hermes levels. While they equal the necessary 32, you'll need to adjust them to fit the rule that the lowest level be at least half of the highest level. This means that if Charms is the highest level at, say 10, then the level for Divination can be no lower than 5. Once you start RPing and earning levels over on the Elsewhere board you can have them uneven if you wish, but starting levels need to be balanced.

Lastly, and this is just a kind of aesthetic thing for ease of reading, it might be a good idea to space out paragraphs instead of having all the writing in one long paragraph. It makes it a lot easier to read and allows the reader to follow the character's thoughts better.

Go ahead and make these few adjustments and re-post the new application as a response to this thread and someone will come along to take another look! Thank you and, again, welcome!

Hi Hermes!

Thank you for making the requested changes to your application.

On our site, the Ministry is actually a played institution. We have a forum in Elsewhere and we have several players who fill positions. Just as Speaker of Wizengamot was not open, neither is Junior Undersecretary. You are more than welcome to say Hermes works at the Ministry in a certain department, but please don't say he fills a specific position, because it might already be taken or not open.

Once you are accepted, you can go to the Ministry's forum and apply for the specific position you want (as long as it's available - Junior Undersecretary is not). If you have any questions, please send me a PM, and I'll be happy to help.

For now, please adjust Hermes occupation. Either back to Wizengamot member or something like 'Ministry Employee in the Department of xxxx'. Once you do that, we can accept your application.

Thanks!

- Pryce
