Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Rian Edmund O’Reilly

Birthday: July 28th 1950

Hometown: London, England / Uncle Dan’s place

Bloodline:
Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two):
Second year (or Third year)

Biography:
Ree knew the proper age to start Hogwarts was 11, but he also knew anything rarely followed the proper rules. Things just went the way they went, and there really was no reason to get too worked up about it. Just look at uncle Joseph and his balding head. He definitely worried way too much about proper ways.

The summer Ree had turned 11, a letter with the Hogwarts stamp had arrived, with Rian Edmund O’Reilly written on front. It had been very exciting, and he couldn’t wait to go. He had gone with dad and Fia to get all his books and even got a cat too. They had eaten ice cream in Diagon Alley and it had been a real proper outing. Dad had been excited too and had told stories from when he started Hogwarts that he had never told before. He didn’t usually speak about the time before, but that day he had seemed to forget that.

September first had come at a rather inconvenient time, though. Ree didn’t mind being a little late for Hogwarts, but being stuck in bed with bandages because some things just shouldn’t spill on you, that did suck a bit. On the bright side he did get to read a lot of cool books dad had borrowed for him at the muggle library. And after dad needed to send him and Fia to uncle Dan’s for a bit, he’d learned a lot of neat things about nature and animals and stuff. Of course it had meant weeks turned to months, and he supposed now he was a bit more than a little late for Hogwarts. Better late than never, though!

House Request:
Rian is a bit of a lot of things, so he could fit in a few of the houses, I think. He probably has more qualities suited for Hufflepuff than any of the other houses, though. He’s loyal, patient and values fair play – hard work isn’t always his strong side, though. I could see him find a place in Ravenclaw too, for his curiosity and love of books, though he isn’t particularly intelligent. Or maybe even in Gryffindor. Give it your best shot!

Personality:
Happy, playful, and outgoing are probably the three words that sum Rian up the best. He is a carefree and happy kid, who likes having fun and being around other people. He is often seen laughing or smiling, is rarely in a bad mood and always tries to see the positive in things or people.

He lives in the moment rather than dwell on the past, something he has learned from his father, who still at times struggles with what he experienced during the war and later the death of his wife. We don’t talk about that, though.

Rian is social and friendly, loves to be around others, and isn’t too picky with his friends – as long as they are nice. He’s not really a born leader and doesn’t actively try to be the centre of attention. He just likes being there and seeing people happy.

He can be brave and will speak his opinion, but mostly to help someone else.

Rian loves reading and learning things, but he never really enjoyed regular schooling very much. As much as he loves reading at home, he struggled at school. He’s not stupid, though. Some things are just a bit hard for Ree.

Appearance:
Rian has blue eyes and blond, usually straight but at times a bit messy, hair. He’s of pretty average height, a little on the skinny side, and doesn’t really care too much about his looks yet. As long as he is (fairly) clean and nice to people, that’s really what matters most, right?

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Roleplay Response:

It wasn’t every day Rian crawled around the flower beds in the gardens, ducking behind bushes and peeking over roses, but see, when the others had suggested a special game of hide and seek mixed with tag, who was Ree to say no?

He grinned as he spotted the tell-tale curly head one of his friends trying to hide behind a pile of … he guessed it was some kind of giant weed. Possibly the ones that might reach out and grab your leg if you weren’t too careful. This was gong to be a brilliant morning!

Someone else was in the gardens, though, and that someone was making quite the racket. Ree crouched further down behind the bush. Hopefully his hiding spot wouldn’t get spoi… too late. The 12 year old peeked from behind his bush.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

“Sorry!” Rian whispered loudly and shot the older boy a grin, not really caring about the state of his jumper. “We’re playing and I gotta hide!” He nodded and looked towards the other end of the gardens where he had last seen his friend. He was gone now and everything had gone quiet again. Phew!

“Can I help you?”
