Suggestions & Questions / Re: Question about the Time Warp
« on: 20/11/2016 at 23:11 »
Hello!

First off, thank you for taking the time to research our Time Warp plot! It can be a lot to take in, and there are a few reasources around the site available for use (some can be harder to find that others).

In our Era Guide, we have a Quick Reference guide for the Time Warp.  Looking at the third paragraph, it reads:

Quote
Since only the magical world is effected, Muggles will be left behind. It is possible for a few to be taken along if they were in a magical place at the time. However, the majority will not be able to go.

So to answer your question, yes it is possible that some Muggles found themselves taken along for the Time Warp ride.

Hello Mary!

Welcome to HSnet! So glad that you found us.

First thing, first. I noticed that your username does not match that of your character. You can fix that by submitting a helpdesk ticket requesting a username change.

Your application is coming along greatly. However, ten years ago, our canon went though an event known as the Time Warp (you can read more about that here). In brief, the entire wizarding world slid back in time. What does this mean for Muggleborns? Well, their Muggle relatives in most cases didn't slide back with their magical children. This would mean around the age of one, Mary was left all alone. Because she was so young, several things could have happened. She could have some distant magical relative that knew of her and picked her up OR she could have been picked up by one of the children's orphanages. How her story plays out from there is completely up to you!

Also, it seems as if you are missing the bottom portion of your application which contains the roleplay sample that we ask you to complete.

If you could reply below and repost your application in full making the necessary edits, we'd be more than happy to take a second look at your application. Can't wait to get you playing with us!

Hey Veronica!

Welcome to HSnet! So glad to have another one of Ellis' friends joining us! (;

Before we can get you accepted and roleplaying with us, there is one adjustment that needs to be made to your application. Your application is coming along greatly. However, Akara's backstory doesn't exactly match up with where our site plot has been. Ten years ago, our canon went though an event known as the Time Warp (you can read more about that here). In brief, the entire wizarding world slid back in time. What does this mean for Muggleborns? Well, their Muggle relatives in most cases didn't slide back with their magical children. This would mean around the age of one, Veronica was left with just her father as he was magical.

(Just a side note, in order to receive her owl on her 11th birthday, Veronica would have had to have been born in September 1935 to be a first year this term.)

Also, if you could just flush out your RP sample a little more so that we can get a little more taste of what Veronica is like. Perhaps you could write about what she was doing out in the gardens when she spotted the boy looking for his rat?

If you could take a look at both of these recommendations and post your edited application below so that we can we can take another look that would be great! Can't wait to be writing with you!

Hello Akara!

Welcome to HSnet! So glad to have you and your friend Ellis here. Thanks Ellis for recommending us to her! (;

Well, their Muggle relatives in most cases didn't slide back with their magical children/siblings. Unfortunately, this means most likely that although Akara was with her twin sister on someone's doorstep, Akara's sister wouldn't have warp back in time with the Wizarding world.

This does open a whole realm of opportunities for Akara, and this doesn't necessarily mean that a huge portion of her story has to change! Although she would have no sibling to be compared to, it is possible as a twin that she always feels that a part of her is missing (and even worse that she doesn't know why).

If you could please make this adjustment to her biography and repost the application below, we'd love to take another look at it. Can't wait to get you accepted!

Hey Luna!

Welcome to HSnet! We are so glad to have you join our community!

Your application is coming along nicely and Luna seems very unique, I love her story! However, before we can get her accepted, some of her story needs some minor tweaking.

Ten years ago, our canon went though an event known as the Time Warp (you can read more about that here). In brief, the entire wizarding world slid back in time. What does this mean for Muggleborns? Well, their Muggle relatives in most cases didn't slide back with their magical children.

Being accepted as a first or second year means that Luna would have been no more than two when the time warp happened. While this doesn't have to change the feel of her story, it would change some of her background as anyone around her at the time of the Time Warp that wasn't magical would have "disappeared". At the age of two, it would have been difficult for her to survive on her own. The squib Chief Elder of another tribe could still fit into this story, but as a Native American, why would he have attended Hogwarts instead of the North American magical school, Salem?

Also, I noticed that you mentioned the Luna was a parselmouth. This is considered a special ability and requires that you fill out an application to have this ability. Seeing as it is close to the start of term (only 25 hours away!), I would suggest that you leave the mentioning of Luna being a parselmouth out of your application as we cannot accept your application until the special request is approved or rejected. If you are still interested in Luna having the ability, you can still submit the special request and if approved begin to use it in your roleplays.

If you could please repost you application below, adjusting your biography to reflect the Time Warp, that would be wonderful. Also, when you repost, please do not adjust the Hogwarts header at the top of the application. After you do, we'll be able to take another look at your application and get you approved!

Can't wait to see you around the boards!

Hello Ferrin!

Welcome to HSnet! We are so glad that Google has led you here!

Your application is coming along great, but before we can get you accepted there is one thing that we'll need you to edit.

Ten years ago, our canon went though an event known as the Time Warp (you can read more about that here). In brief, the entire wizarding world slid back in time. What does this mean for Muggleborns? Well, their Muggle relatives in most cases didn't slide back with their magical children.

Being accepted as a third or fourth year means that Ferrin would have been almost three or four respectively when the time warp happened. While this doesn't have to change most of Ferrin's background in terms of his parents, unless any of his siblings were magical as well they would no longer exist in our present timeline. Also, three or four would have been a little young for Ferrin to have been wandering around on his own so he likely would have been picked up by one of the magical orphanages or perhaps from some of his long-lost magical relatives. That would be up to you!

If you could please repost you application below, adjusting your biography to reflect the Time Warp, that would be wonderful. After you do, we'll be able to take another look at your application and get you approved!

Thanks,

- Aubrey

Hello Lynx!

Welcome to HSnet! We are so happy that you found us in your search for DragonBall Z!

You application is looking great, however there is one thing that I need you to adjust before we can get your application accepted. Our roleplays (RPs) are written in third-person past-tense. If you could kindly repost your application below and adjust your RP sample to be in past-tense, we'll be able to get your app accepted and you on your way to roleplaying here!

Again, so happy to have you here!

Suggestions & Questions / Re: Levels and stuff
« on: 29/12/2015 at 20:23 »
Let's see if I can easily clear things up!

The following classes and extracurriculars that are being offered this term. Listed are the levels that can be earned with it.

Cores
Charms .......... 1
Divination .......... 1
Transfiguration .......... 1
Conjuring & Summoning .......... 1

Electives
Astronomy .......... 0.5
Care of Magical Creatures .......... 0.5
Magical Home Ec .......... 0.5
Magical Literature .......... 0.5
Muggle Studies .......... 0.5
Potions .......... 0.5
Sonomancy .......... 0.5

Extracurriculars
Dueling .......... 0.5
Hospital Wing .......... 0.5
Quidditch .......... 0.5
Spellbound .......... 0.5

Only the levels earned in the core subjects have to be applied to that area. Therefore, if my student passes Charms, I have to up her Charms level by one. Any of the elective and/or extracurricular levels can be combined with another 0.5 level and applied to any area (charms, divi, trans, or c/s). You cannot up levels by 0.5, so if you earn 6.5 levels in one term, you'd have a 0.5 level carryover into the next term. You also earn two levels that can be applied to any area by being a returning student next term OR graduating to Elsewhere.

There are two rules that need to be followed when leveling up at the end of the term (for castle characters). One, unless you earn more than 8 levels, no more than 2 levels can be applied to any one area (therefore I couldn't increase Charms by 3) and secondly, your lowest level can't be less than half of your highest level (therefore I couldn't have a Charms level of 5 and Divi level of 1).

Does this help?

Welcome to HS.net Lorna! It's so nice to meet you.

It looks like you are off to a good stat on your application! One thing I noticed is that the "personality" and "appearance" sections fell off you application and you included those in Lorna's biography. While that is completely okay (those sections are "optional" after all) and combination of the characters biography and their personality along with the RP sample help the admin team get a feel for what Lorna is like and helps us to sort her into one of the four houses.

Also, one thing of note: I noticed that you mentioned that Lorna is Muggleborn. Please keep in mind as you re-visit her bio that 9 years ago our characters survived the Time Warp. The only problem is, Muggles (in almost all cases) did not warp with the magical world therefore Lorna would have been left as an orphan at the tender age of two. Some things you could touch on in her bio is where she ended up after the warp. How did she like where she was? What did she think when she was told she harbored magical abilities? How does she think she'll do at Hogwarts?

Once you've touched up your biography, re-post you revised application below and we'll be glad to take another look!

Hello Anastasia and welcome to HS.net!

Your application is off to a great start! Ana looks like a fantastic character with a great backstory and I cannot wait to get her playing within the Ministry of Magic. I have taken note that you wish to change your levels request to C8 D8 T8 S8 and well as wait to submit a special request until you've felt Ana out a little bit (which is a great call).

If/when you would like to request levels > 32, please PM this application to an admin.
If/when you would like to request Ana's empath status, please submit to an admin this application.

Until then could you please edit the first little bit of Ana's bio? It comes off that she already harbors the divining and empath abilities, though I'm sure you wrote that intending to submit the special request application now.

Also, your roleplay sample displays forms of powerplaying, which is controlling the actions of another player. Remember that you can only control what your player says or does. If you could take a look at the RP sample and re-work it a bit, that would be fantastic!

Once again, welcome to the site! See you around!

Best,
Aubrey Rousseau,

Hello Arven and welcome to HS.net! We are so glad to have you here!

It appears that you are off to a good start to your application, but you are missing a few sections and there are a few others that need attention.

First, in the year section we would like you to pick a primary and secondary year that you would like Arven to be accepted into. At 15 years old, Arven would likely be a 5th year, but then you could put 4th as a second choice.

Second, the biography section states that "if you are applying to be a first, second, or third year, your biography must be at least one hundred words long. If you are applying to be a fourth year or above, your biography must be at least three hundred words long." If you could add a little bit to your biography, that would be great! Some ideas might be to tell us what life was like for Arven growing up? Since his father was a wizard and his mother a muggle was he exposed to a wizarding upbringing or a muggle one? Is there a reason that he is going to Hogwarts instead of Durmstrang seeing that it's the wizarding school for Norwegian students?

It also seems that you missed the RP sample. Please refer back to Student Application Template for the RP samples that you could reply two. You only need to do one.

Once you've made the necessary edits, please reply to this thread with you application in it entirety and we'll be glad to take another look! Can't wait to get you writing with us!
