Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.
Name: Zailey Anya Petrova

Birthday: May First

Hometown: Moscow, Russia

Bloodline: Unknown

Magical Strength (pick one): Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one): Charms

Year (pick two): First, Second

Biography: Born of a heated exchange between two strangers, Zailey has lived a life atypical of her fellow witches. Abandoned at an orphanage at birth, raised by a crumbling couple, and eventually adopted by a charming couple; there is nothing about Zailey or her upbringing that would have ever indicated she was destined for great things in her short lifetime. At the age of three, Zailey was whisked away to London by Boris and Anya Petrova. Ex-pats of Russia, they had merely returned in the search for a child of their own; a daunting yet fulfilling task. Growing up in a seemingly normal community, Zailey was a stranger to the magical world until the arrival of her Hogwarts acceptance letter. Unbeknownst to her, she had a magic-laden pedigree. Looking back on her childhood, she could easily recognize all the signs that should have stood out but were chalked up to coincidence.

The oldest of a set of twins, Zailey has had no contact with her biological sibling and hopes that one day she will be afforded the opportunity to recognize them in the halls of Hogwarts. Her only companions growing up were a calico cat named Jack and a short-lived chocolate labrador puppy named Ella; the by-product of a migc related accident that went unrecognized for many years. Her parents, Boris and Anya, run a small Russian restaurant and bakery (Petrova's) in an older district of London; the business has thrived thanks to the settling of Russians in the community.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: No Preference

Personality: Zailey is a young, ambitious witch with an unusual streak of intelligence. Anything she sets her mind to, she can and will accomplish (even if she goes absolutely crazy doing it). At times, Zailey can come off aloof and disconnected but it is all part of her quirky charm; she will talk to anyone, about anything, sometimes at the most inappropriate times and it doesn't seem to faze her. If there is a joke to be made or an opportunity to brighten someone's day, she will seize the moment without a second of hesitation. Most would deem her outgoing, but her personality is a far-cry from 'popular'. Sometimes her sense of humor and her studious habits can take on a dark edge that some just don't appreciate.

“Oh, come now!"

Astrid Bixby’s voice carried down the corridor, the tall blonde girl not far behind. Her interviewee – or victim, depending on perspective – turned a corner and she frowned. They were always so elusive when she needed them. Sure, they would talk as if there was no tomorrow during class, but once she actually needed them to say something, they were nowhere to be found. Gryffindors.

Flustered, Astrid stopped in the middle of the corridor and stared, her parchment hanging limply from her hand. She was a good reporter, really, and she always did her best to make sure that everything she wrote was accurate. She glanced down to the quill, eyeing it with disdain. It wasn't her fault if her quill misquoted. How was she supposed to know? It made for interesting articles, at least, and if she had misquoted the Head Boy last term as saying he had a love for stuffed animals, then that gave him personality. Astrid sighed.

A pout formed on her lips as she turned away, discouraged. The corridor was mercifully empty, though the doors to The Spellbound – the school newspaper – were ominously closed. Corbridge was a mercifully sweet editor, but Astrid was terrified of disappointing her all the same. She had to come back with quotes.
Her eyes, blue, trailed her surroundings before choosing a new path, and she turned down a new corridor. A figure was ahead, and her eyes lit up, an impossibly rosy smile blossoming across her lips.

“Hey!” Astrid called, her voice light and singsong. She trotted to catch the person, her shoes clicking on the stone floor. “Wait up! It’s for the paper!” Her legs aided her admittedly poor running, and Astrid gasped as she came closer. “What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

Zailey came to an abrupt stop, her concentration ruined by the shrill 'hey' from Astrid Bixby as she jaunted towards her. Eyeing her warily, Zailey double-checked her surroundings to confirm that she was the person Astrid was actually interviewing. Had it been any other day, the young raven-haired girl would have presented the older student with a satisfactory answer; unfortunately, Zailey had been so surprised and flustered that the only words she could manage to squeak out were "disgusting" and "bloody hell". Silently, she hoped that those two phrases would not be splashed on the front page.

Gathering her wits about her, the first year managed to clear her throat before attempting to answer Astrid's question. "I-I uh, I think frog legs are a horrendous choice. What's attractive about chopping off the upper body, skinning, and cooking a creature that is unsanitary and amphibious?" She inquired, noting to herself that there were many times growing up that she had partaken in a delicacy that she now abhorred. Flushing, she stared at Astrid with a rather blank look and awaited her reply.

You see, that was the funny thing about reporters. If they could get one answer out of you, they never stopped asking. Coincidently, they would hound you to death (literally) and then turn right around and publish your obituary and a great big front-page piece about how they either witnessed or inadvertently caused this tragedy. They didn't have boundaries, or even guidelines, they just kept pursuing until they were satisfied (which was rarely ever). Zailey hoped that her blank stare and sufficient answer would be enough to put off Astrid and send her packing.

Hi Zailey, and welcome to the site! :D Your application is beautiful, and I love Zailey's personality; however, there's one change I need to ask that you make before we can accept your application.

As you say that Zailey grew up in a non-magical environment, I assume that her foster parents are both Muggles; if this is indeed the case, then they would've disappeared in this Site's Time Warp, an event that slid the Wizarding World back in time, and which consequentially made all characters' non-magical relatives disappear from their lives in 1937. This would, of course, affect Zailey's biography considerably. Bearing that in mind, could you please alter her history so that it fits the site plot?

Once you do that, we can go ahead and get you set up right away. :)

Thank you! <3

Unbeknownst to her, she had a magic-laden pedigree and was the only Petrova survivor of the Time Warp. With her entire world gone and only the briefest of fuzzy memories to serve as snippets of her family; Zailey wandered for a brief period of time (scavenging to get by) until she was taken in by a lovely (magical) family that had endured their own slew of losses (mainly fostered children). It was in their home that she was welcomed, nurtured, and eventually forgot the life she had once had with Boris and Anya. It was there that she received her letter and a whole new world opened up to her.
