Biography:
The story really begins with Rei’s father, Ken Tachikawa. He was the son of a poor fisherman. But he was special, he just didn’t realize how special at first. Amazed at his powers, the once humble and modest boy grew more confident and clever. To his own kind he was just a muggleborn wizard. He learned to live with his status and showed his peers to see how clever, amusing, or entertaining he was. Anything to gain favor with them without bending over backwards too much. To muggles he was mysterious but surprising talented at almost everything he did. Ken ended up falling in with the wrong crowd. More specifically, the Yakuza. He did work for them and made a large amount of money. He never did anything too unforgivable. He helped them out smart their rivals on a number of occasions. The Yakuza Boss never knew how he did it, but he hardly questioned good results.

Eventually Ken decided to be bold. He had fallen in love with a pureblooded witch, Chikako, but felt he didn’t have the kind of money he would need to support her. If he would have asked Chikako she might have gone easy on him. But Ken wanted to be wealthy and show everyone he could marry an elite woman and support a rich lifestyle. So he stole a large sum of money from the Yakuza and invested/hid it.

Ken believed he covered his tracks well enough, but to be safe he constantly moved around with his new wife, Chikako. He realized that by stealing a large amount of money would result in him being hunted the rest of his life. If the law expected children to pay their parents’ debts, then Ken could only imagine what the Yakuza would want from his own children… when he had them of course. Chikako was a little less than thrilled with the ‘nomadic’ lifestyle, but she went along with him. Chikako’s father sent a bounty hunter after Ken as well as a howler with his disapproval... but that didn’t scare away their love.

They had each other. And then they had three children. Two boys and then a baby girl names Rei.

Rei’s brothers were more than well behaved. Considering who their father was they were considerable well behaved. Rei wasn’t badly behaved, but she took a lot more patience than they had. If you told her to go right she would go left. Getting dressed for the day took longer than it should. She seemed to be well aware how difficult she was being, but her smile made her father unable to discipline her. And her mother had all the patience in the world.

Sample Roleplay:
What were partner projects about anyway?

Simon wasn't a loner, but he loathed any type of assignment that required him to team up with anyone. In his book, the only truly trustworthy student was himself. So naturally, when he'd been instructed to team of with a classmate and turn in a research report on the Muggle-American Civil War, Simon had been rather disappointed.

The library that afternoon was deserted aside from Simon and his partner. Before them lay a plethora of textbooks. Wars: Old and New by Kevin Torvalt. When You Say Civil... by Emma Jean. Each book was old and worn even more than the last. In a way, it was almost impressive that the books had lasted this long and still been put to such good use. Simon figured that there weren't many things for which that could be said.

Simon leafed through a copy of Understanding America by Harvey Wires, sighing heavily as each page flipped over on top of itself. He wondered what the student next to him was thinking. He was thinking that this was a drag. These books were probably boring beyond belief, despite their interesting appearance. The library was stuffy from the heat outside. Finally growing too bored from the text, Simon slammed the book shut and sat upright.

"How about I write the essay and stuff? You can just put your name on it. Sound good?"

Sample Roleplay Response:

One day Rei’s legs would reach the floor with ease. And then she could drive her father’s car wherever she wanted to. Like to the candy store, the joke shop, and the hardware store. Until then she work on her list of things she wanted. So far she had just gumballs written on it.

Rei had been tempted to switch the covers on a few books her partner had taken, but she hadn’t been given the chance too. She also thought she should try helping him with the project. Now had that bookshelf always tilted like that or had someone knocked it recently? Rei leaned to the side in her chair and narrowed her eyes at a dark haired boy. She flicked her pencil and sent it shooting towards his head.

Missed! Now she was pencil-less and her crush would never truly understand how she felt. She should have engraved a message into the pencil like ‘You look like a troll.’ That was a stinger! She’d have to write that one down.

"How about I write the essay and stuff? You can just put your name on it. Sound good?"

Uh oh, he must have seen her notebook and lack of notes.

“Umm… are you really smart? Like… really smart,” Rei asked. She didn’t settle for mediocrity.
