Biography:

At the tender age of eleven, Bonnie Wolffe’s life is easily broken into two neat parts: Before and After.

Before was a big, loud family in a big, loud house, in a huge, quiet property in Wales. Before, it didn’t matter much if she wasn’t as loud as her older sister Moira or as cheeky as her younger sister Rosie or as bold as her mother Irma or as trusting as her father Edmund. Before, she slotted in neatly as the second of seven, because in a family like the Wolffes there was a space for every personality and it was okay if she didn’t quite keep up with the big and the loud and it was okay if she didn’t quite want to.

During was something she never thought of, and even if she tried (she rarely tried, only in the middle of the darkest, loneliest nights or the quietest, sunniest afternoons) she really couldn’t because the Healers had taken those memories from her.

During remained only in a scar that cradled her shoulder and though it all blended together into two jagged, narrow crescents she imagined she could count the bumps; twenty teeth on top, twenty-two on the bottom.

After was different, and new, and inhabited only the space of a year so far but somehow that one year managed to eclipse all ten before it.

After was a special potion once a month and a special room (a cottage, a fort, a hideaway, they’d tried every charming name to make it seem less of what it was: a prison) and a lock on the door and silver in the sky and in her blood.

After was not going to Hogwarts with her sister Moira, like they’d been talking about for years, stomping around the house with their mum and dad’s Hufflepuff scarves trailing on the ground behind them.

After was getting angry, so angry, so overwhelmed at the noise and movement and constant touching and tackling of her five little siblings that she wanted to cry.

After was noticing the way mum’s brilliant smiles faded a little too fast and how quickly dad had quit his job as a counselor at the school. I need to be here with all of you, with my family he’d said, and Bonnie believed him because dad didn’t lie, but she also knew the truth beneath the truth: it was her fault.

There was a Before, but Bonnie let it go; perhaps too fast, perhaps too easily--

(And perhaps she was smart to do that, because holding on to a life that wouldn’t, couldn’t, be hers ever again was a fool’s errand. She’d watched her sister board the Hogwarts Express and jumped when the scarlet steam engine’s whistle blew, startling a tear from her the corner of her eye.)

--because she had to learn how to live in the After.

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
No, was the answer of course.

She wanted to play with Moira, or Rosie, or even one or both of the twins who were always so rough and so grating that she normally avoided them. No, she didn’t want to play with a loud stranger who hadn’t even taken the time to introduce themselves properly. But Moira or Rosie or one or both of the twins weren’t there and neither was her father because he was buying them ice cream--

(Brown eyes flicked across the grassy lawn, past a path and a bench and a hedge to where her father stood. She could see his wide, easy smile from here as he chatted with the vendor at the ice cream stall and something inside of her relaxed.)

--like he always did after a visit to St. Mungo’s.

No. She thought, but Bonnie had only ever been good at thinking it and not saying it and so she ducked her head in an awkward nod.

“Okay.”

She cleared her throat, found a smile, and asked: "What shall we play?"
