Biography:

Born on a chilly December morning in the quiet town of Ashbourne, Derbyshire, Eryon “Rye” Thornley grew up surrounded by rolling hills and a sense of calm that matched his thoughtful demeanor. As a half-blood, he grew up with one foot in the magical world and the other in the mundane, giving him a unique perspective and a deep appreciation for both. Rye’s father, a botanist, shared his love for plants and nature, while his witch mother introduced him to the wonders of magic, particularly her talent for charming objects to help around the home.

Rye spent much of his childhood exploring his small town, not with the wild abandon of an adventurer but with the quiet curiosity of an observer. He loved collecting peculiar stones, pressing flowers, and jotting down questions about the world around him in a worn notebook he carried everywhere. His knack for spotting the small details made him a favorite among his peers, who often relied on his sharp eyes and calm presence to navigate tricky situations.

Despite his reserved nature, Rye has a natural warmth that makes it easy for others to approach him. Heading off to Hogwarts, he’s eager to learn and find his place among his peers, all while keeping his steady focus on the things that truly matter to him. Whether it’s perfecting a spell in Conjuring & Summoning or offering a quiet word of encouragement to a nervous friend, Rye’s strength lies in his reliability and thoughtfulness.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Roleplay Response:

The dungeons, a place where Rye had always, always wanted to be standing in ever since he came to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.  The kid had a knack for noticing small things and that is what had led him here. The constant thumping and the smell of an overcooked meal.  In any case he was here and had no choice but to explore.

"H-h-hello?" He heard, "Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

"No she's not!" He couldn't help and have some fun with the girl he heard, the one who seemed to be scared witless. Rye had heard of Emma Birch before and knew how newbies like him were often misguidedly tempted to explore the dungeons where the ghost of the Slytherin girl was believed to be housed.

Walking around the corner, Rye saw a youngling jump. The hints of red in her robes told him that she was suppose to be a mighty, brave and fearless Gryffindor. The reds were always up to proving how brave they were, even though they were more often not.

"Hey there" Rye said as calmly as he could, "It's okay, a firstie are you?"

Rye beamed at the young blonde hoping not to scare her, extending his hand towards her.
