Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Andrea Dupont

Birthday: 11 July 1950

Hometown: Birmingham

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): Three or Four

Biography:
If you are applying to be a first, second, or third year, your biography must be at least one hundred words long.
If you are applying to be a fourth year or above, your biography must be at least three hundred words long.

Andrea was always in the shadow of her sister Amelie. As a child, all she ever heard was how perfect Amelie was at pretty much everything. Magic came easy to Amelie whereas Andrea struggled with outbursts that were barely under control. So she did the only thing that she could do, she turned to books for answers. She tried to learn as much as she could so that one day, she wouldn’t be compared to her sister.

Andrea’s parents were clueless to the internal struggle she was going through. They lived their lives believing Andrea was still the bubble of joy she always was. Her dad, Julien, worked for the Daily Prophet and her mom Anvi was an Auror at the Ministry.

As a family, they had moved around quite often, owing to the nature of the work her parents had, not to mention the complex web of relatives sprawled across the globe. They had spent several years in Paris, were Julien had some of his family, in Nürnberg for a year while her father covered a story for the Prophet there and in India where Anvi had her family. If it wasn’t for Portkeys, Andrea didn’t know how they would have managed to see any family ever at all!

Owing to the nature of this lifestyle, Andrea and Amelie were homeschooled for the first few years until Amelie decided that she wanted to go back to France and join Beauxbatons. Her parents wanted Andrea to follow her sister but Andrea knew that it was important for her to not be at the same place as her sister for once if she had any hopes of stepping out of her shadows and being her own self. She knew that she had learned quite a lot for her age and that she would do just fine at a school like Hogwarts and that this might be exactly what she needed to find out who she was meant to be.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Ravenclaw

Personality:
Tell us a bit about your character’s personality (likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) What are they like on a good day versus a bad one? Is your character particularly cheerful? Do they hate sunlight?

Andrea is a kind, joyful person around people. It was when she was on her own, that she tended to get broody and lost in thought. Her mind could somehow race at a million kilometers per hour and this made her volatile at times. She was prone to mood swings and tended to go from wanting to be surrounded by people to wanting to be left alone within in a matter of minutes.

Appearance:
Briefly describe your character's appearance (hair color, build, stature, etc.) What effect does it have on their personality? For example, does the shy Ravenclaw girl secretly dye her hair black because she hates her natural blonde? Does the curly-haired Gryffindor use charms to hide his freckles?

Andrea was lean and taller than most other kids her age. She had dark brown curly hair and brown eyes. She had freckles across her face that she didn’t quite like but her mom forbade her from covering them up because she finds them cute. Her skin was a light medium shade that could tan quite a lot in summers thanks to her part Indian genes.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Response:

Andrea liked to escape to the gardens more often than she cared to admit. The Great Hall seemed to get too crowded sometimes and the Common Room had too many people who would strike up a conversation with her. Not that she didn’t like her housemates, she loved most of them so much that it didn’t make sense for the short time that she had been at Hogwarts. But there were days such as this one that demanded her to be alone somewhere with a book.

Books are so wonderful because they don’t demand your attention the way a person does. If your mind drifts away, you can always come back later and pick up where you left off with no feelings harmed, no questions asked.

The gardens were usually quiet except for people passing by. It was strange how few bothered to stay and enjoy the beautiful flowers and really spend time there amidst the plants. Something that she appreciated on such days, where she could just hide behind a tree with a book and space out unnoticed.

She was right in the middle of an incredibly well crafted sentence, when she heard a faint sound and a boy’s voice a few feet away from her. Andrea peeked around the trunk of the tree she was hiding herself behind trying to figure out what was going on.

She felt the sneeze before she heard it, her face wrinkling up in response before she could figure out what was going on. The scene before her was bizarre, the boy seemed almost frantic in his attempt at looking for something and the trail of destruction he was leaving behind wasn’t small.

Andrea slowly got to her feet hoping to maybe sneak out before the boy noticed her and barely managed to take two steps before she was spoken to.

“Um, I was just about to leave…” She said looking around, unsure whether she should feel guilty for seeing what she saw or if she should offer some help. On one hand, she wanted to get out before she was dragged into a conversation which was the very thing she wanted to avoid that day, on the other hand she didn’t want to let her favorite spot be ruined when she could do something about it.

Andrea decided to stay and help and settled her body into a more rooted stance than the one she had before, that was ready to bolt.

“Maybe you need some help?” She asked tentatively searching her pockets for a handkerchief. She reached it out to the boy hoping that he wouldn’t be offended at the offer.

“It’s clean and you can just keep it. My mom sends me a billion of those each month.”

She was trying her best to keep the awkwardness of the situation from being audible in her voice.
