Hometown: London

Bloodline: Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Biography: Ariel grew up in London with her mother, father, and younger brother.  Ariel's mother, Marie, is a muggleborn who is the first witch in her family.  She now works at the Ministry of Magic in the Minister of Magic's office.  Ariel's father, Jackson, is a Quiddish player for team Britain.  Ariel's younger brother, Jackson Jr., or just JJ, is only 7, and will not be attending Hogwarts for a few more years.  Ariel has spent most of her life being looked after alternately between her witch and wizard grandparents, and muggle grandparents while her father traveled for his team, and her mother worked long hours at the Ministry of Magic.  Ariel has a soft spot in her heart for all muggles because she loves her grandparents so dearly.  However Ariel loves being a witch.  She loves magic, and she loves to study and learn more and more.  She hopes to one day be a talented witch like her mother.  Ariel is also fiercely protective of JJ.  In her opinion as the big sister she is the only one who can tease him.  Ariel's favorite pass times include reading, drawing, and playing with JJ as long as he's not being bratty.

Option I:

Blimey, the Great Hall was packed. It seemed like everywhere a guy looked there was some clown waving around a House banner or yelling about the game.

'Can you believe it?' 'No way!' 'This must be the biggest upset in Hogwarts Quidditch history...'

Stupid Quidditch.

James flopped into an empty seat at the end of the table, shoved an empty plate out of the way, and let his head sink onto his crossed arms, squishing his freckled nose down flat against the tabletop. He wasn't sure why he'd even bothered to come here, since he definitely wasn't hungry. He'd probably never eat again, in fact. He didn'tdeserve to eat. He hadn't stopped in the locker room to change out of his muddy, sweaty uniform after the game either, because he was pretty sure he probably didn't deserve to be clean too; and anyway he couldn't stand to see the looks on his team mates' faces after he blew their chance at winning one of the biggest games they had ever played.

Just one lousy shot. That's all it would have taken. If he could have just got that one stupid foul shot to go through that one stupid hoop, they could have won and he wouldn't have been the biggest blockhead in the entire school.

As if to prove the point, half the people at the next table suddenly broke into a loud victory chant. James pressed his face further into his arms to hide the bright red blotches he could feel creeping up his cheeks. That was it. He was just going to have to run away and move to Nova Scotia. He'd just cost the three-year-in-a-row Champions the Quidditch Cup! How do you ever live that one down for crying out loud? He was only a second year and he was going to spend the rest of his life as 'that dumb cry-baby kid who dropped the Quaffle!'

It felt like every set of eyes in the room was boring into him, and James couldn't stand it anymore. He jerked himself back up from the table and stomped right back out of the Hall the same way he had come in. As he stormed into the quieter hallway outside, he could hear footsteps somewhere behind him. James rounded on the sound and began to shout, his brown eyes shining with tears. "WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"

"Whoa!" Ariel said.  "I wasn't following you out here to try to make you feel any worse.  I just wanted to talk."  Ariel was already nervous to talk to James, and being shouted at right off didn't do anything to calm her nerves.  "I just wanted to tell you that, trust me, it's no big deal.  You've been playing for how long on a team?  One year?  You should be proud of yourself that you made the team at all!  My father didn't make a house team till his fourth year."  Ariel didn't want to rely on any 'fame' her father had as a Quiddich player, but this situation seemed to call for it.  Maybe if she could get James to understand that he had at least one person in his house on his side who knew where he was coming from, she could help to cheer him up.  "I'm just saying James," she reached out to touch his arm, "that this really isn't the end of the world.  Our house couldn't keep the Quiddich cup forever, just like we won't win the house cup every year, just like Britian can't make the finals every year.  It was a team effort, and you should be proud you made it so far.  Plus, it's not even the last game of the season."  She offered him a smile, and hoped he reply, and this time not yell at her.

Ariel,

Hello, and welcome to HS.net! We are glad that your Google search led you here and we can't wait to have you join us! Before we can accept you application, there's two things that needs addressing in you application.

Firstly, a little over five years ago (ICly, not OOCly), our board plot led us through something called the Time Warp. Essentially the Wizarding world slide back in time 38 years, from what would have been January 1, 1975 to January 1, 1937, leaving the Muggle world, its people and inventions behind. You can read more about the Time Warp and its effects on the Wizarding world here.

What this means for your character is that as of the Time Warp, Ariel wouldn't be able to visit her Muggle grandparents because as far as she would know, they don't exist (at first after the warp, she and her family may have thought they 'disappeared' but as time has passed, memories of them would have gotten fuzzier and fuzzier until they were all forgotten). If you could modify your biography to reflect this, as it is very important to our plot, that would be excellent!

Also, we are primarily a writing site, and therefore we would rather you describe what your character looks like in the appearance section of your application than post a picture. We use profile pictures help show us what you envision your character to look like, but writing it out is what brings your character to life!

When you are finished with your edits, please re-post your application below and we would love to take another look! Can't wait to have you playing with us!

Biography:
Ariel grew up in London with her mother, father, and younger brother.  Ariel's mother, Marie, is a muggleborn who is the first witch in her family.  She is now a home maker since being a muggleborn it s very difficult for her to find work. Ariel's father, Jackson, is a Quiddish player for team Britain.  Since he makes a comfortable living playing sports it's okay that her mother isn't working.  Ariel's younger brother, Jackson Jr., or just JJ, is only 7, and will not be attending Hogwarts for a few more years.  Ariel has spent most of her life at her mother's side.  She's suffered having to watch her mother be discriminated against for her blood status, and has had to watch her father deafened her mother and his family, and him choosing to marry a muggleborn since he's a pureblood.  Seeing all of this has hardened Ariel to want to make friends or trust anyone in the magical community.  However, Ariel loves magic, and she loves to study and learn more and more.  She hopes to one day be a talented witch like her mother.  Ariel is also fiercely protective of JJ.  In her opinion as the big sister she is the only one who can tease him, and she feels it's her duty to make sure he won't suffer the persecution for his blood status she's seen her mother endure.  Ariel's favorite pass times include reading, drawing, and playing with JJ as long as he's not being bratty.
