Grey was always the subject of great expectations, his mother and father knew that they would not be suitable heirs to the Reinhardt Head of Family and instead of deluding themselves with false illusions of promise – they focused on their child.

He was always an overachiever, but it was never enough for his parents. They insisted that his grades and powers could always be improved and that if he wanted to be worth anything in this world than he would need to find a way to prove that he was superior to lesser-blood.

Grey became irritated with his families expectations, but by this point his upbringing had already convinced him that power played a significant part in anyone’s value. He began to study to learn something that was beyond most Wizards and Witches in the world.

Legilimency.

Try as he might to master the ability; he was unsuccessful. His skill with the practise is enough for him to distort peoples memory and provide them with flashes of disturbing imagery. However his major downfall was the ability to interpret what it was that he was seeing in the layers of another’s mind.

His ability quickly became nothing more than a cheap way to get inside somebody’s head and disturb them, however he still values the ability purely for the merit of achieving this much by the age of Twenty-Six. He has a long lifetime ahead of him, the mastery of such an ability would come with time.

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Grey has always been the centre of attention, not because he was popular or adored by his family – no. Grey was burdened with the expectations of a dying bloodline, one that he himself didn’t even want around in the world anymore. His parents gave him the choice of any magical institution on the planet; he chose Durmstrang Institute for one reason – they permitted the study of the Dark Arts, whilst Hogwarts did not.

He wasn’t drawn to the Dark Arts because of what they did necessarily, no, he had a fascination with power. More so than that, he was drawn to them because they were frowned upon and banned in most educational curriculums.

Grey was considered a child prodigy in practical magic, whilst he was very ignorant to the importance of magical history. By his 5th (and final year at Durmstrang) he was one of the top duellists in the institute and he was proud of his accomplishment. There was one duellist who was superior to Grey in every area and try as he may he was unable to swing him to become a friend or an ally.

His respect and loyalty was given to those who were powerful, not necessarily in magical skill but any form of power attracted him to their side. It was a mix of envy, lust and intellectual curiosity that drew him to these people, however he would only ever admit that he was drawn to them out of an inner respect for himself and not wanting to surround himself with colleagues that were below his station.

The reluctant boy never finished his years at Durmstrang, having denied all of Grey’s advances for them to become friends. The boy was believed to have been killed and suspicious eyes were fixed upon Grey for the crime.

Grey cooperated with all of the investigations and was quickly dismissed as a suspect of the crime. It was the next year that he insisted it was time for a more mainstream education; he was enrolled in Hogwarts and sorted into Hufflepuff. Many people were shocked by his placement – including his family. However his academic genius was enough for him to dismiss anyone’s concern for his ability.

Upon graduating Hogwarts – and being disappointed with how their subjects were taught – he joined the Ministry of Magic and began to work in the Office of Magical Education. The Order for the Return of All Rights was the ideal political party for a man such as Grey who opposed any restrictions on somebody’s true abilities.

In the beginning of 1973, Grey decided that his time at the Ministry – whilst fruitful – was not going to be enough for him in the future. His eyes turned to Hogwarts once more, it was then that he decided he wanted to become a Professor. He was, however, denied for the position. But he was not turned off of the position, it would become his obsession to continually reapply for the position until he was able to become a Professor at the magical school that demanded so much respect from the magical world.

After studying in at Durmstrang for five years; Grey is able to speak fluent Russian and English, although his stubborn persistence was strong enough for him to retain a perfect English accent throughout his entire stay.

Roleplay:
Mr. Grunch smirked as stepped into the shadows beneath the overhanging eaves at the side of the street. There was a sort of alcove here, where two buildings came together, and the wall was set back just a couple of feet to make space for a drain from the battered lead guttering. It made it difficult to see if anyone was standing there until you were almost on top of it, and the shape of the roof up above cast an almost permanent shadow even then.

There were a number of such places along Knockturn Alley and Mr. Grunch knew them all.

Seeing nobody was nearby, he quickly cast the concealment spell that would obscure his features, making him unrecognisable, just a blur beneath the cowl of his thick, but worn, robes. He knew his target, had identified them some time before, as they entered the Alley. He had shadowed them, discretely, and now, he knew, they were heading back out again, towards the safety of the better lit Diagon Alley.

He heard the footsteps approaching. This was it, then. Just before they reached the alcove, he stepped out suddenly in front of his target, wand raised and ready.

"Give me all yer galleons, and any jewellery yer got! Don't try to hide nothin', 'cos I'll know, right? Do it now!"

Roleplay Response:
The not so fresh air, the pungent scent of crime and the less than desirables that roamed Knockturn Alley. It was invigorating. There was a simple pattern to follow in Knockturn if you didn’t want to get into any trouble; keep your head down, travel in groups and above all do not take a shortcut lest you be prepared for the consequences of your actions. Screw the pattern, Grey wanted the confrontation. He was bored and he needed something to wake him up a notch.

A silver bell chimed as Grey pushed the door open on his way out of the less than legitimate business. The sharp winters air colliding with his exposed neck and face as he stepped onto the dark cobblestone street and observed his surroundings. There were several people taking a path back to Diagon Alley, he knew he would be safe from confrontation if he shoved his hands in his pockets and followed them back out onto the more crowded market street.

If only he cared for his personal safety at all.

Grey walked the longer pathway, one that took him through the alleyway that hid his ambusher. The man walked out in front of him, his wand aimed and prepared to strike at Grey if he had the nerve to try anything.

“And a good evening to you too sir,” he said with a smile and a friendly hand gesture, his tone as if there was nothing wrong with the situation at all. Grey dug deeper into his pockets - pockets I might add that were enchanted with an undetectable extension charm – and grabbed out several Galleons. His other hand reaching deep into the second pocket and his hand wrapping around the wand that was concealed within the pocket.

He removed his left hand and fiddled with the Galleons, muttering under his breath as if he was counting the coins. To deter from suspicion he dug his hand back into the pocket, as if he knew had several more coins within the jacket. His hand emerged once more, this time with a few more coins.

Grey pulled out his wand and aimed it directly at the man’s head, the moment was extended for several seconds. Grey wanted to know if the mugger would instantly attack or if he would take Grey’s wand as an equal threat.

“What are you waiting for, sir?”

He slowly lowered his wand to the coins on his palm. “...Flagrante.” he charmed them with a heat spell, making the coins rapidly heat in his hand. The skin below the hand began to turn red from the pain and heat of the spell. The look on Grey’s face urged the mugger to reach forward and take the coins if he had the capacity to withstand the same amount of agony that Grey so willingly volunteered to.

He closed his hands around the burning Galleons and relished in the pain. He closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath to better appreciate the sensation. His eyes shot open and he returned the coins to his pockets, the mugger would have to be insane to challenge someone who was evidently so unhinged.

A smile returned to his face as he made his way back to Diagon Alley, the confrontation was satisfactory enough for him to be in a pleasant mood.

OOC Note:
I will be applying for Professor with this character once the applications open up again, however in the mean time I would like to request these levels and his special ability so that I am able to roleplay with this character whilst he works at the Ministry and better develop character relationships and such prior to his application for the role of Professor.

Thankyou~

1. Power Requested:
Legilimency

2. Description of power:
Grey is able to infiltrate an opponents mind (via incantation, not silent casting) and is able to dig up negative memories inside the person and project disturbing visions into their mind. He is unable to interpret what he sees inside another's mind, as he does not have any skill in using Legilimency for mind reading purposes and has been unsuccessful every time he has tried to withdraw information from his opponents minds.

3. Character History
- How did your character get this power?
Grey studied at Durmstrang Institute; because of their pro-dark arts curriculum he would  have learnt the ability from a Professor at Durstrang on the side. His family would have no doubt paid the Professor to teach him something that is normally frowned upon.
- How have the people around him reacted to said power?
Negatively, he doesn't let many people know his power purely because it has no practical use besides mental torture / causing mental distress in his victims. People around him believe that Grey is cruel and sadistic; fellow students feared him for his use of Legilimency in duels.
- How does your character feel about this power?
Misunderstood Grey is rather proud of his ability and uses it whenever he can - which is rarely because of the nature of the power. He feels offended that his ability isn't recognized with respect; instead treated with fear. He wishes he was able to be open about his ability and that he didn't need to keep it hidden for the most part.

5. Roleplaying Sample (Set when he was a student, learning it)
"Net, net!" he proclaimed as he hunched over and grasped at his stomach, he had just been a victim of his Instructors Legilimency. He was filled with an almost sick curiosity with the ability, it was definitely something he wanted to have under his own belt. the Instructor called for him to use the spell again, failure to succeed being punished with the spell used against him.

He forced himself upright, his mind clouded by irritation and pain. He aimed his wand at the Instructor like he had been for the last hour without success, he had managed to get a blurry vision from his instructors mind but was ultimately unable to interpret what the blurred vision was.

Grey was filled with desire to see his Instructor in the same amount of anguish he was in himself, he thrust forward with his wand "Legilimens!" this time he wasn't seeing a blur; no he was seeing what he had been imagining this entire time. His Instructor in pain and agony, being assaulted by hooded figures and distorted screams echoing.

The spell broke off suddenly, Grey collapsed backwards and hit the ground. He caught his breath back, he had managed to project a thought into the Instructors head. It wasn't his goal, however it was progress and it was something he could work with.

6. Have you been RPing at this site for at least 1 IC term (3 OOC months)?
I joined the site in April, so I've only been here for Summer Campus, May and June. July/August will mark my official 1 term.

(OOC: I can postpone the request until August if you'd like me too :) I intend to have him apply as a Professor in August, just wanted to RP as him for a while before hand)
