Biography: (100 words minimum.)
Mother currently sat in a chair, holding her new baby sister; rocking her back on forth and patting her on the back.  Apollonia sat in the chair opposite of her mother, mimicking the older woman’s actions with her baby doll.

”Mommy, can I hold Rosalie?”

Her mother got up out of her chair and instructed Apollonia to come take a seat, and she obeyed.  She was only five, but her mother and father had raised with simple rules.  Do as you are told, the first time you are told.

Her mother carefully cradled Rosalie as she attending to Apollonia.  Carefully positioning pillow under the little girl’s elbow, her mother positioned the infant and placed her into Apollonia’s arms.  She smiled at her little sister as her mother pushed the rocking chair gently back on forth and Rosalie began drifting off.  She moved her left arm to softly stroke her baby sister’s cheek, but her mother scolded her for not supporting the newborn correctly and she quickly put her arm back.

After a few moments of silently pouting, Apollonia spoke up.  “Mommy, can you tell me about the day that I was born?”

Her mother paused.  She was far too young to be told the truth of how her father had taken the news of having a fourth little girl.  Her mother stroked the hair on her head, just informing her that she was surrounded by the people that love her the most: her mother, older sisters (Lilith, Medea, and Evelyn), and her father.  That was all she needed to know about the details of her birth … forever.

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
Eyes blinked as she stared at the girl who only moments before was dangerously close to falling off the toy broom.  To be honest, Apollonia had never been on a broom before – real or toy.  Secretly, deep down, Apollonia wished she could ride, but she was always told that she was too young.

The small girl looked over her shoulders.  Her father was currently at work, so what he didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him, right?  However, her mother was somewhere around here with baby Rosalie in tow, as were her three sisters.  Ugh… her sisters; they could be such tattle-tales sometimes.  At the moment, Apollonia didn’t see them, but she knew that they probably weren’t too far away, just waiting for the moment that Apollonia would screw up.

“I want to play, yes.  But I don’t think it’s a good idea.”

Biography:

March 6, 1958

Dominic sat in the wooden chair, rocking his newborn baby girl as she drifted off to sleep.  His gaze shifted from his child to his wife who was grabbing a much deserve rest.  His mind raced.  He wanted to tell her his deepest, darkest secret – that he was a wizard with magical abilities – but he had done that once before with his first wife, and they only thing it had gotten him was packed bags and a kick out the door.  But still, like his first child, there was a potential that this little girl could harness the potential to be a magic carrier, and if so, how could he explain that to his wife?

((Note: Records have be changed to record Marlena’s birth as March 6, 1921))

March 6, 1968

It was Marlena’s 11th birthday, and that could only mean one thing – her letter from Hogwarts would be arriving today.  There was no doubt that she was a magic carrier; Dominic had spent the last 11 years discreetly using magic to clean up her little “accidents.”  He had already had the talk with her - the one explaining that she was a little different – but he never explained to her exactly why she was different, or that there was a world where her difference would be embraced as normal.

At precisely 8:09 AM, the time of Marlena’s birth, an owl arrived with her letter.  Dominic took advantage of the fact that his wife and children were still sleeping and tucked the letter away for safe keeping.  Later that day, while at work, Dominic took the opportunity to write the school and gratefully decline Marlena’s invitation.

January 1, 19751937

“Dad, have you seen mum or Ian?”

They were nowhere to be found, nor did her father have an explanation to why they were missing.  Dominic was unaware of any problems, and if she was going to up and leave, why wouldn’t she have taken both kids with her?

January 10, 1937

Her father had put the paper down, a paper that she had never seen him read before.  It was odd, as the front cover featured pictures that moved.

“So, I think we need to have a little talk.”
Marlena just stared at her father.

“Many years ago, you and I talked about that fact that you were… different.  I never explained why, but there is a reason that you can do things that nobody else can.  You’re a witch.”

“I’m a what?”

“A witch.  You can perform magic, or well… you could if you had been trained, too.  During your adolescent years, you had a lot of “accidents;” things that you made happen that you couldn’t control.  After age eleven, the accidents subsided as you didn’t go to Hogwarts to train.”

“To where?”  She didn’t know if she believed what she was hearing.

“Hogwarts, a school for witches and wizards like yourself.”  He paused before presenting her with her acceptance letter.  She read its contents, still not exactly sure on how to process this overload of information.

“The fact that I’m a wizard and you’re a witch explains the disappearance of your mother and brother.  You see, the Daily Prophet – a wizarding newspaper – claims that the wizarding world has been transported back to the year 1937, leaving all the non-magical people behind.

She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.  She just wanted everything to go back to normal; whatever normal was.

A little over a year later…

“Thank you, sir,” her father had said, closing the door.  The two men had quite a conversation, though they had kept their voices low so that Marlena could not hear their conversation.

“Marlena, I have some news to tell you.”  He took a deep breath before he continued.  “Right after the occurrences of last New Year’s Eve, I hired a private investigator to start looking for someone.  I have never told you this, but you have a step-brother.”

Her father was so full of surprises.

“Seeing as he is still using my last name, I’m not sure why it took so long to find him; but apparently he spent some time outside the country before landing a job at Hogwarts.”

“Hogwarts?  Oh, right.  The magic school.”

“Which is why you are going there in the fall.”

Marlena’s attempt at a protest was fruitless.  A man that her father had spent his life ignoring, and he wanted her to go and meet him first!  To top it off, she would be missing her last year of school and going to a school where she knew very little about anything.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Her brother was a Hufflepuff, but SURPRISE ME

Personality:  Marlena is friendly, perhaps overly friendly at times.  She tends to find the good in everything and everyone, but can probably be somewhat “over the top.”  Although she found out that she is a witch a year-and-a-half ago, she really hasn’t played with magic all the much and will rely on natural talent to get her through this last year of school.

Appearance: Marlena is just four inches shy of six feet tall.  She had a skinny frame, bluish-grey eyes, and dark brunette hair.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Please reply to one of the Sample Roleplays below.

The biggest win in school history, and she was part of that winning team.

She couldn’t thank her best friend enough for asking her to get involved with the house team this term.  She may have well been raised a muggle, so she knew very little about the sport aside from what her father had told her about it.  To think, at the beginning of the term she had barely been able to stay on her broom…

… and now her house was Quidditch Champions.

The hot shower had felt good after the match, though she winced more than twice as the watered hit her battle scars.  It was painful at first, but relief was soon to follow.  The shower was rejuvenating, and not she was ready to join her teammates at dinner in the Great Hall.

The hallways were relatively quiet – except for a Gryffindor couple Marly had passed a corridor or so back.  Apparently she was tardy for the party, though she would be more than excited to make a grand entrance.

"WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"

Marly stared; not sure what to say at first.  Standing before her was the second year chaser that just two hour before attempted to make the winning shot for the three-peat Quidditch Champions…

…and she was the one who had blocked his shot.

Staring was probably not the best idea, as the boy was visibly upset.

“I’ve seen lots of losers before…”

Perhaps not the best way to start the conversation.

“…but you’re not one of them.”  The ending of the statement sounded more like a question than anything remotely reassuring.

“Listen, kid, you played a good game; perhaps it just wasn’t your day.  You can either learn from it – train smarted and harder next year – or you can run from it, which is what I sense you are doing right now.”

She gave him a pat on the back.

“What do you say we both go back to the Great Hall and make an entrance together?”
