Elsewhere Accepted / Dylan Merrythought - Shop request
« on: 23/11/2012 at 03:07 »
SHOPKEEPER PERMIT
You must have applied as an Elsewhere character before completing this permit.

Shop name: The Lake Devil Stadium
Shop Type: Quidditch Stadium
Location: Hogsmeade

Short Description (50 words max): Situated in the Hogsmeade countryside, the stadium can be found in the middle of the grand lake, high rise seating for spectators all the way around and four towers rising towards the sky, one at each corner of the pitch.

Long Description (200 words min): The vast wooden structure floats freely upon the great lake, meaning that during stormy conditions quidditch players often loose thier way from the stadium - particularly seekers. The oval shaped stadium has entrances at the north, south, east and west towers however the high rise towers themselves are reserved for the media, commentators and any special guests and VIPs that wish to spectate the game.

Spectators

Wooden drawbridges are lowered upon arrival to the stadium to the West, East and South entrances with steel stairwells leading up to the stands where wooden barriers divide the tiers. The each tower can host upto 30 spectators, each gifted with a plush chair to observe the match from and even for a small charge - your own pair of binoculars.

Players

Players enter and exit the North tower only (be prepared for many an abush from fans after the match) Upon entry to the north tower corridor, there are two changing rooms - one to the left of the vast wooden corridor and the other opposite to the left. Each changing room fitted with wooden benches, showers and blackboards for all those pre-match routines. Unlike the rest of the stadium, the floorboards have been covered over with white tiles (easier to clean)

What purpose will this shop serve other than selling things and being the home of your character? Why would people want to RP there just for fun?

The stadium will hopefully be used to promote elsewhere characters to get involved and play quidditch so it's not just refined to the schools by setting up teams and matches. It can also play host to invitational matches such as Hogwarts vs Salem, Hogwarts vs Beauxbatons and Beauxbatons vs Salem along with a whole host of other opportunities

Archived Applications / Filius Pendragon - Wandlore
« on: 14/08/2012 at 06:39 »
Name: Filius Pendragon

Age: 28

Birthplace: Anglesey, Wales

Educational History:
Graduated from Gryffindor in 1963 before becoming an apprentice to his father as a Wandmaker, mastering the study of wandlore in 1971

Magical Levels:
C18 D15 S15 T14

Biography:

Filius lived under a wizarding roof and was introduced to magic at a young age. He went to Hogwarts where he was sorted into Gryffindor house and displayed a remarkable talent for divination. However, by the time Filius was in his fourth year he had become lazy, uninterested and generally bored of education which often led him to detention. After graduating Hogwarts his father, Aewthy Pendragon, taught Filius everything he knew about wandlore, accepting his son as his own apprentice.

In 1972, Filius saw his father passed away, entrusting the family shop to Filius. An only child, Filius never knew his mother and for the first time Filius was completely alone in the world. He spent most of his time after his fathers death renovating the shop to keep his mind occupied and his body away from the firewhisky. The shop had been a huge success in Diagon Alley when it re-opened with Filius quickly making friends with the locals of Diagon as well as the children who had come into the shop. He took on an apprentice named Amity Addison who he quickly became fond off due to her soft nature and her natural gift for wandlore and has been more than a mentee to him since.  Currently living in an apartment at the Warbling Rogue where he moved to after taking in a strange yet adorable girl under his wing by the name of Asta Adelaide and her pet pooch called Twist. During the summer of ’73 he fell in love, albeit under controversial circumstances, with Jessie Black and never felt happier about his life.

However, January 1974 saw the shop being raided with Filius falling victim to the cruciatus curse before being knocked unconscious. Waking up three days later, dazed and confused, he had lost his memory and all knowledge of those who he once cared for and loved. The path to recovery was hard, emotionally and physically, yet under the guidance of his close friends, Filius has now started to remember odd occasions though a remarkable improvement has been noted in his retention of wandlore once again. He also suffers from random bursts of Legilimency, unable to control it Filius inadvertently sifts through the mind of who ever he is with, causing him excruciating pain while doing so.

It would be fair to say that Filius is a shell of a man he used to be but Jessie had never left his side and for that, he would always love her. He would always respect Amity for all she has done for him and the shop along with many other friends who have rallied around him. However, Filius grows restless. There is a renewed sense of purpose about him and feels that he can give back so much more to the world that he longs to get back into. He spends most of his days studying books and talking to his friends in the shop, leaving Amity to do most of the work, hoping within himself that every lost thought and memory will come flooding back to him. The portrait of his father which once stood above the fireplace, and sometimes was quite active with his booming voice, in the shop was destroyed during the fire though Filius has yet to re-discover his fathers’ image.

All Filius wants is to be back in the world which he forgot so much about.

Strengths & Weaknesses:

Filius’ main strength is also his main weakness. He entrusts others very easily and very quickly with no regard to any insidious agenda they may have. Filius is as open as he is kind, again could be a strength or weakness dependant upon certain persons, and will always keep his door open for anyone who needs it. A persistent worker, Filius will go out of his way to achieve his goals once he has put his mind on them though goes about them in a relaxed fashion even if in his mind he is under a lot of stress. He had always judged his work to his fathers and felt that it would never compare in quality though since he left the hospital he has become more confident and less like a perfectionist about his work.

Hopes & Dreams:

Before Filius lost his memory he had always toyed with the idea of teaching at Hogwarts, a school both close to his heart for more reasons than academics. He has a strong desire to enthuse his passion of wandlore onto others after the remarkable success of his apprentice Amity, hoping to inspire a new generation of wandmakers as well as informing people over the dangers of the magic within wandlore that have often been overlooked or more recently been allowed to be made legal. He wants to make an impact upon people’s lives for the better, just like people have made an impact on his life. He longs of starting a family with his children taking over the family business, allowing him to travel, a pursuit very close to his heart.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

Interviews.

A necessary evil, he supposed, but too formal for his tastes, and they always resulted in so much paperwork. In some ways, it might have been easier for James Quincy Winchester to seek out professorial candidates himself and hire them on the spot, but such a search was time-consuming and it simply was not the way things were done anymore, except in special cases. He did have to concede that it was far easier to let prospective professors come to him, although that carried with it the expectation that there would be some applicants he would have to reject.

He did not care for that part, except in special cases.

Salem Institute was in need of new educators. No matter how off-putting Winchester found the hiring process, it could no longer be ignored. He enjoyed the influx of fresh blood to the school, the wave of new opinions it carried. Even the students seemed to enjoy staff turnover; it kept them on their toes, prevented them from becoming complacent with the status quo. Yes, it was a vital part of administration, new hires.

Winchester sighed. But the paperwork.

He glanced from the resume on his desk to the applicant across from him, and shuffled a few papers - he knew not what they were - to make him look more official. “So,” he began, folding his hands over the stack of papers. “Why would you like to teach at Salem? And please, don’t tell me it’s for the history. I get that all the time.”

Roleplay Response

It had been unnerving for Filius, the step he was about to take. Jessie had encouraged him with all her heart to become a professor, a life ambition of his which he had forgotten, and yet strangely Filius found himself more at ease of the prospect of himself being a professor. It wasn’t at Hogwarts, couldn’t be a Hogwarts…not just yet….yet the Salem Institute offered him a world in which he, probably, would have never experienced.

The past half a year had been tough, yet one of Filius’ first pieces of knowledge and information to come back to him was Wandlore. His apprentice had been showing him what he had taught her and slowly but surely Filius Pendragon grew back into the wandmaker he used to be.

The leaving was terrible though, the teary eyed Jessie hugging him with all her strength before he departed. He could still see the faces of his close friends who had supported him throughout his entire ordeal. There were large chunks of his life still unaccounted for, possibly to be lost forever and yet Filius Pendragon sat patiently outside the office that would determine his ability to be a professor, looking back all that had transpired over the last week or so.

When it was time to enter the office, Filius brushed down his suit, neatened up his collar before clearing his throat and opening the office door. The room had more to offer to the eye than Filius had expected. He took his seat in silence and watched the man opposite him. James Winchester, Filius had been told.

He listened to the first out of probably many questions that Mr Winchester was to fire at him over the course of the interview and Filius let out a soft chuckle. Filius was aware of Salem’s history but that was far from the reason for Filius to want to teach. He nestled into the back of his chair, formulating a response though he already knew what it would be. It was the same thing that he had told Jessie as to why he had to go to America. “Well, the historly is an attrlactive part of Salem though is verly distant from my own reasons” he started, taking a pause to form his next sentence carefully.

“I applied to this post as a man who has a lot to give to the world that I once knew, to an art that I’ve studied and loved…..wandlorle is a dying arlt Mr Winchester, even after my accident that much was still evident, but the world will always need wands, the underlstanding of wands, the reasoning of wands. I would considerl it a great honour to be teaching such a class herle at this grleat school…” Filius finished. He wasn’t sure if he could ever truly describe why he wanted to teach so badly. His heart yearned to be able to stand up and teach wandlore to students willing to listen. Students that someday may follow in his footsteps, the same way he had followed in his fathers.

Biography: (300 words minimum.)

Unusual. People had paid Dylan Merrythought alot of money in the past for simple knowledge. Facts and figures that can be easily obtained just by listening to people. Though life never was this easy. In his hayday he had released a paper on Lycanthropy and the affect of substantial use on the respiratory system of a human being. His finding were....fascinating to say the least.

However somewhere along the journey that Dylan took something had changed. He found himself becoming the eyes and ears of Boston. He knew of every deal, wager, plot, plan, scheme and meeting that was going down. He knew when they would take place, where and who would participate. Turned out money could sway a mans heart..and make him incredibly happy. To a city where factions where plentiful and information was scarce, it was true what they say. Knowledge is power.

However Dylan overlooked one thing. His charasmatic lies and his ability to twist the truth and forging a relationship with someone to carry out his every will could not steer him free of danger.

You are my puppets and i am the puppet master.

It took a while admittidly but soon people cottoned on to the man who had no loyalties to anyone but himself. You can't lie your way out of a hit. So Dylan ran, he fled across the pond back to his home country of Ireland.

At age 22, Dylan Merrythought took a look at his life for the first time. He thought about those days at Hogwarts and how his days buried in a book had served him well. He remembered his parents, god knows where they are right now. He remembers his brother...that scrawny thing that mummy and daddy always looked after and preferred.

Contrary to his nature now, his family were very different. They found the hippy lifestyle of the muggles fascinating and took off in a life of fornication and dizzying highs. Leaving Dylan to find his own way, the successful way and to him...The right way.

That brings us to this moment here. He looks infront of him before looking to the left and the right. The Waltz was where he was told to go to when he got into London. Ask no questions and you'll be fine he was told. The midnight moon filled the dark streets with its light. Dylan smiled up at the moon.

Time to bring London to its knees.

ROLEPLAY

Mr. Grunch smirked as stepped into the shadows beneath the overhanging eaves at the side of the street. There was a sort of alcove here, where two buildings came together, and the wall was set back just a couple of feet to make space for a drain from the battered lead guttering. It made it difficult to see if anyone was standing there until you were almost on top of it, and the shape of the roof up above cast an almost permanent shadow even then.

There were a number of such places along Knockturn Alley and Mr. Grunch knew them all.

Seeing nobody was nearby, he quickly cast the concealment spell that would obscure his features, making him unrecognisable, just a blur beneath the cowl of his thick, but worn, robes. He knew his target, had identified them some time before, as they entered the Alley. He had shadowed them, discretely, and now, he knew, they were heading back out again, towards the safety of the better lit Diagon Alley.

He heard the footsteps approaching. This was it, then. Just before they reached the alcove, he stepped out suddenly in front of his target, wand raised and ready.

"Give me all yer galleons, and any jewellery yer got! Don't try to hide nothin', 'cos I'll know, right? Do it now!"

ROLEPLAY RESPONSE

Dylan was not a killer. This was one of his many rules. Rule number seven, i do not kill. Granted, sometimes he felt like he could kill, but wouldn't. That would be unwise given his current predicament aswell as not right. It would be complcated to try to understand why Dylan did most the things he had done in his life, for many of his rules contradicted other rules. But then again, people were walking contradictions.

Dylan knew something wasn't right tonight. Everything had been too perfect on his way back from The Waltz. The shadows...he didn't trust them. Pulling out his wand from his trouser pocket, he teased it up his shirt sleeve, easily accessable whenever he so needed. He kept walking, less of a brisk pace than usual as he didn't want to be-

"Give me all yer galleons, and any jewellery yer got! Don't try to hide nothin', 'cos I'll know, right? Do it now!"

caught with his pants down - figuratively speaking..... Well this is a suprise. The spy who got caught, now this just will not do at all. Dylan turned to face his captor, raising his hands as he did so. He had turned a full 180 degrees until he let out a large sigh, dropping his arms from above his head. "By Merlin it's just you Grunch! I thought i had a serious problem then!" he chuckled before whipping his wand from his sleeve and raising it in a flash. "BOMBARDA" he shouted causing Mr Grunch to fly backwards. He probably wasn't dead...well....if he was Ethan didn't know about it as he resumed his journey, a sly smile on his face.

Rule number seven...i do not kill....that i know of....

((OOC - I've already applied with this character but i decided to completely revamp his story line! Hope thats alright!!))

Hi Esme,

Apologises about the delayed response! I was wondering if Dylan could be part of elsewhere, sort of bumming around for a term before going back to hogwarts? Is that a possiblity? If not then i guess i can weave a term at Beauxbatons into his story :)

Thanks,
Dylan

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Dylan was due to go back to Hogwarts yesterday. Returning for another year of Quidditch, Potions, Spellbound….oh how he had missed it all over the summer. However, the fact remains that he’d missed the Hogwarts express and with no other means of getting back to the school he found himself stuck in London, staring at the wall where platform 9 and three quarters was situated. Trunk in hand, he quickly the station before stopping suddenly, causing a rushed business man to stumble into the back of Dylan before rushing off, one hand still on his briefcase handle and the other making an obscene gesture towards the boy.

Due to his parents line of work, which even Dylan didn’t know, he often found himself alone though his older brother popped in and out of the family homestead in the heart of Buckinghamshire, he hadn’t been there long though, they used to live on a country estate just outside Derry before hand. He supposed that when he did see his parents it brought great joy to him; he can always remember a song his mum sang to him whilst he was growing up, though it never lasted long enough…
The streets of London were busy, a complete contrast to what he was used to. He never liked London anyway. His mind started wondering idly, going off topic of the seriousness of his situation. His parents were nowhere to be found, at least by him, his brother he had not talked to in over a year, after the fight broke out between him and their mother. Interesting…he thought to himself.

Dylan always found that he was quick on his feet, though very short tempered he had most the qualities of his parents. The only fundamental difference that both his parents and his brother had all been placed if Gryffindor, infact his whole family had been put in Gryffindor apart from him. He once was under the illusion that he had maybe been adopted.

He plotted his course, proud of himself. Where do you go if you’re a wizard without a home? Diagon Alley …..or if you’re a wizard who missed the Hogwarts express and no doubt will get in trouble for not being at school….Knockturn Alley. He had heard stories of Knockturn Alley, though he only believed about half of them. He found it curious that these stories didn’t particularly bother him but more the fact that a professor from Hogwarts would apparate before his eyes.

When he got to Diagon Alley, Dylan was first surprised before becoming pleasantly surprised. It hadn’t been the mad centre of all things magical like he remembered when he would come to get his school supplies. There were few people wondering the streets, probably fewer browsing in the shops. His plan was very methodical. Money – Gringotts, Place to stay…he looked around…The Warbling Rogue will do, things to do….Diagon Alley was his play ground.

He hadn’t worked in his life, never had to. To some degrees he felt privileged in not having to but on the other hand felt disgusted that even to this day, mummy and daddy would regularly top up his Gringotts  account. Not that he ever used it anyways. He hated any thought of a fixation of possessions, a necessity of things, lots of things. The Village where he lived, he saw so many muggle children the same age as him, parade their muggle money around in the “newest” clothes or bragging about the new MG car their parents owned. Even his parents would have a running contest of “whatever you have, I have it better”.  His parents often criticised his lack of wardrobe….whatever that was supposed to mean.

Putting this out of his mind he walked down the cobblestone street, noticing all the familiar and new buildings in the alley. Pendragons wands, I wonder if that antisocial old codger is there? He asked himself before looking over to the Warbling rogue. “Under new management” he said beneath his breath. This development didn’t mean anything to him, all he knew was that they had beds and a room there and that is exactly what he need. A new pet store as well…I wonder if they have any lizards….contemplating this to himself he continued on, before approaching the door of Gringotts.

(O.O.C - As you can probably tell, i would like this character to join Hogwarts in April pleeaaasseeeee  ;D)

ROLEPLAY

It was impossible for Dianne to stay out of trouble. It wasn't that she was looking for trouble, it's just that trouble always managed to find her. Today she wished she could find something equally familiar but more comforting.

The five-year old girl hugged her puffskein closer to her and brushed her face in its soft fur for comfort. She had named him herself and he was always her special pet. No she was certain she had never gone down this side street before. Her anxiety increased every second as darkness fell as she walked down the road. A loud noise came to her left and she buried her face in her pet's fur completely. The scared girl bolted the opposite way slamming the both of them into the wall of the nearest building. Tottering back a few steps she found a door a few feet to her right and ran to open it. What light there was inside spilled out into the darkness and she spilled into the room.

Once in, she was caught between the impulse to curl her cloak up more tightly around her and loosen her grip on it. She wasn't alone anymore but she was now among strangers instead, which was nearly as terrifying. Her puffskein had recovered from the shock of the wall and now was purring contentedly as the girl hugged it, causing a mildly calming effect on the girl. Gathering her courage, she marched up to the nearest person, pulled on the nearest clothing hem and blurted out in a loud voice:

"I'm lost and it's dark and I wanted to know where I am but I'm not scared but I am worried that Sambundeakin is scared because he's little and needs something to eat and wants to go home."

She paused to draw a breath in her nearly never-ending sentence, "He misses my and his mommy."

To explain the scared girl held up the custard-colored puffskein. Sambundeakin the puffskein, however simply purred as if nothing on earth was wrong in the world.

Roleplay Response:

His body froze. Christ it’s a child, what do I do with it?! He screamed in his mind. He looked down at the girl who had cunningly transferred her fear over to her pet…thing in a shallow attempt to disguise he own feelings. He couldn’t help but reflect back to last year when a girl that he liked did the exact same thing, only then to tear his heart out.

He brought his attention back from the nightmare that was that fateful day on the Quidditch pitch to try and deal with…whatever was going on. He had just entered the warbling rogue himself to acquire a room when this girl started yelling incomprehensible words at him. At first, he tried to ignore the noise but having a furry yellow…thing thrust in front of your face usually gets the attention of most people.

Upon reflection maybe he was a tad short tempered and quite temperamental of other people….but he had come to accept that for who he was and he’ll be damned if some silly child was about to change that.
“Where was the last time you saw her? She might be there” he replied in a very condescending tone. Ironically, his mother would give that precise answer anytime he lost something.

Opening a Wand Shop in Hogsmeade/Diagon Alley

Biography: (300 words minimum.)

Now that his father was gone, the shop was left to Filius. He knew this day would come, he just hoped it wouldn't be this soon. Filius had his father as his tutor for the past 10 years, taught him everything he knew about wandlore. But now it was his time to take the reigns, he felt a surge of power bolt through him as he stood in the middle of the shop, his hands on his hips, surveying his proud heritage.

The shop has been passed down from generation to generation of the Pendragon family. Solid daark oak floor boards, antique cabinets and desks, many were the original pieces of furniture from when the shop was first acquired back in 1639. His workstation out the back had been recently modernised to aid Filius in his creation of wands, though the craftsmanship and artistic detail was still all done by hand. "That's what father would've wanted" he thought to himself.

He had kept the shop closed for the past two weeks, in both grieving for his late father and to make one modification to that shop which his father would've never allowed. Though his father was a great man and an even better wand maker, he resented having a crowd in the shop. You can imagine how he felt the week or so leading up to the start of school. This made Filius smile to himself, it was one quality about his father that Filius often found amusing, for he was the complete opposite. He relished the hustle and bustle of a busy shop.

He remember when he got his first wand...He lost it mind but was able to replace it, suppose it did help that your father was Aethwy Pendragon! Snapping out his reflections of the past, he got round to finishing his touches. He had just installed a new area for people to practice with the wands, without causing havoc in the shop. He remember this one boy who had come in, Aethwy Pendragon handed him a wand and told him to flick it. The boy complied and before you knew it, Filius found himself having to put out a fire that had erupted on his fathers beard!

Again chuckling to himself, Filius flipped over his sign to show OPEN and returned to his work station, building another wand and waiting for his first customer.

Roleplay Response:

It had been a busy day for Filius "that time of the year" as the shop keepers knew it. The shop had been filled to children and families all day as each student, normally first years but there was always a few kids who has lost their wand or broken it, had tried out numerous wands in order to find the wand that picked them. However the rush was over now and the evening started becoming dark. He went around the shop igniting the lamps. He liked the effect the flames had in the shop, made it more homely.

Humming away to himself, Filius had just ignited the last lamp with the tip of his wand, when all of a sudden he felt a tug on his trouser leg. He looked down to find a small girl hugging what Filius could only describe as something. Before he could even contemplate what was going on that little girl spoke loudly ""I'mlostandit'sdarkandIwantedtoknowwhereIambutI'mnotscaredbutIamworriedthatSambundeakinisscaredbecausehe'slittleandneedssomethingtoeatandwantstogo home." Both amazed at how fast the girl could talk and the fact she did it all in one sentence, Filius tried to pick together what he had actually understood.

He understood she was lost and managed to pick up the part about missing a mother. The rest didn't make much sense, though he had a distinct feeling it was aimed towards the creature which was making loud purring noises. He smiled warmly at the girl, thinking how one day he would like to be a father.

"It's alright m'dear, how bout you two make yourselves comfortable over there" He showed the little girl over to the the burgundy chair that sat in front of a roaring fire. "Make yaself comfortable whilst i'll get fetch your ma" he continued, giving her a glowing smile, hoping it would put her at ease.

Shop Description (200 words minimum):

As you enter the shop, through the large dark oak door that has six glass panes in it and black irons bolts, a bell can be heard before you set foot onto solid dark oak floor boards that run all the through the shop, some a bit creakier than others. Immediately to the left can be seen dark oak and burgundy glass cabinets, showing off some fine, handcrafted wands. Next to these was a fireplace with a beautiful wooden mantel surrounding it, with a picture of the Great Aethwy Pendragon hanging above it and burgundy chair in front of the fireplace.

To the right was a wall plastered of more cabinets demonstrating the models of the types of wands that Filius can make. These were broken up by a hallway which leads to the practice area. The walls themselves cream white however had a large dark oak skirting board lined around the bottom. Hung from the ceiling was a huge copper chandelier.

Observing towards the back of the room, you could see the shop was split into two floors, bound together by a spiral dark mahogany staircase. Behind the front desk you could see rows and rows of crimson boxes. over towards the right behind the desk was a wooden desk with a bucket next to it, full of wood shavings from crafting wands.

The walls were littered with copper lamps and small family photos. A crimson rug lay before the front desk, with a quill and ink well on top and what seemed to be a small mountain of parchment. The also seem to be a bookcase on the left hand wall, full to the brim of mythological books, wand history books and of course, the big black book which was for his eyes only as it contained all the core recipes his father has ever created and a few of his own.

What purpose will this shop serve other than selling things and being the home of your character? Why would people want to RP there just for fun?:

The store would be a fantastic place for students to meet before the beginning of the beginning of a new academic year and provides an insight into different wands which can be custom made for students depending on their character traits and allows students to practice with them.
