Billings Adoptables

Stuart-John Billings
Age: 9
Suggested FC: Merrick Hanna
History: Stuart-John is Marissa-Jean's little brother. He is a pretty spoiled kid (as his dad became rich when he was two) and expects that he'll get whatever he wants. He is obsessed with sports, but especially Quidditch. And he also enjoys sketching. He's a blood purist, and is a bit of a snob, but he knows he wants to have fun.

Anna Billings
Age: 19
Suggested FC: Madelaine Petsch
History: Anna is Marissa-Jean's older cousin. Anna graduated from Ravenclaw quite recently and is an Unspeakable Trainee. She was raised in a very middle class environment. She knows the value of hard work. And is very determined. She is very close to Marissa-Jean.

Message me on Discord or PM me on my Dylan account if you are interested in adopting any of the Billings! I'd like someone who would be willing to thread with Marissa-Jean.

Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Conjuring & Summoning

Charms

Biography:

The Basics:

Marissa-Jean would tell you about her life in acts, with her friends and family. Her family and some of her friends got her, but most of them didn’t. And she would point out that she was the most talented in her classroom, but that her teacher’s don’t appreciate her, especially in science and spelling. Or History. But she’d also tell you that she was the luckiest girl with the absolute best parents.

She’d make sure to tell you about the massive fantasy worlds she’d built, where she was princess. And that it made her courageous. Especially when she could help her brother cross the tree to rescue the king of the squirrels.

Her parents would tell you about her birthday. And the fact that they would throw her extravagant parties for all her friends. They would point out that she was popular, and did well mostly in the arts. But they would also tell you that she is filled with love and that they are lucky to have had her first.

Things that have changed Marissa-Jean’s life:

Her father’s business taking off

When Marissa-Jean was two, her father’s paper towel business took off. He became instantly rich, moving to a mansion in London. And since he valued hard work, he and Marissa-Jean’s mum spent all the money setting themselves up financially and spoiling their little girl.

This influenced Marissa-Jean’s princess tendencies and her love of all things pink and fine. And it also meant that she received a luxurious broomstick and school supplies.

Her first easel

It was at a toy store, and Marissa-Jean had been at a program teaching kids finger painting.

And she discovered that she loved painting, and bringing about what was in her head onto paper. It was that moment that fuelled her love of the arts.

So of course she demanded an easel.

Her first West End Play

At just seven, Marissa Jean’s parents took her to a West End Show. And Marissa-Jean loved it. It was thrilling hearing the singing. And of course being transported to another world.

And she instantly fell in love with the theater.

Seeing Funny Girl

This moment was perhaps most instrumental for Marissa-Jean. While she was distinctly unimpressed with the plot, Marissa-Jean had not been able to take her eyes off of Barbra Streisand. She just thought the woman was glorious. And just radiated incandescent talent.

And from that moment, Marissa-Jean was determined to become the next Barbra Streisand on broadway. She wanted to ooze emotion out of her every fiber, and to have more skill in her pinky than her classmates did in their entire bodies.

Her first display of Magic

It was a difficult moment. Her dad had been firing her favorite maid. The one who would give Marissa-Jean cookies.

Marrisa-Jean had not taken the firing well, and she was begging for the maid to stay. And then, a pot exploded. And illusionary smoke emerged.

Her parents were over the moon that their daughter wasn’t a  squib and could go to the finest school. But Marissa-Jean loved her life. Even though Marissa-Jean was expecting to go to Hogwarts, she still wasn’t too thrilled, because it would take her away from the theater and the arts.

Her parents bought her a stuffed toy (a Phoenix she named Phoebe) and an Barn Owl named she named  Barbra to placate her for the journey.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Gryffindor please (she wants to be in Slytherin, but I think she’d be a better Gryffindor)

Personality:
Tell us a bit about your character’s personality (likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) What are they like on a good day versus a bad one? Is your character particularly cheerful? Do they hate sunlight?

Marissa-Jean had a lot of contradictions. On one hand, she was a fundamentally daring person. This was mostly because in her head things turned out brilliantly. But on the other, she was a princess who hated getting dirty and was prim and proper.

She is innately kind. It fuels Marrissa-Jean’s desire for justice and fairness.  And once she likes you, Marissa-Jean is very chatty.

She had ambition to the extreme. She believed she was Broadway bound. And absolutely nothing (including lack of skill) was going to stop her. Once she focused in on a goal, she developed an intense focus, and she would lose sight of other things.

She lived in her own world, where she thought she was brilliant. This in part fueled her daring. It also gave her an absurd degree of confidence and a thirst to prove herself.

She had a flair for the dramatic. Any chance to be dramatic would be taken.

Unfortunately for everyone else, Marissa-Jean also tended to be a pureblood princess.

Appearance:
Marissa-Jean had bright red hair that she wore in braids. And she was rather pale (but she does not like that about herself, thank you very much) because she burns rather than tans.

She wore frilly clothing that was immensely girly, and that was bright pink too. However, her clothes also tended to be worn from her daring pursuits.

She was very average height, with inquisitive green eyes. Her legs were long and kind of ganguly, but she was fit from her flying.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Response:

She had never been one to avoid a dare. When a boy whose name she couldn’t even be bothered to remember had been loudly claiming earlier in the day that he had met Emma and that all the girls were too chicken, Marissa-Jean had not been able to hold her tongue.

So here she was, in her bright pink dress and tiara, in the dungeons. It was rather undignified down there. She had to make a note to the Headmistress, because surely a house as noble as Slytherin did not deserve to be in such a dreary place.

(Surely everyone regardless of house had to admit Slytherin was the best.)

And she was wandering through the halls to prove that she wasn’t scared of some silly ghost story. And plus, she was sure that Barbra would do it.

But she did jump at the voice.

Marissa-Jean was about to respond to indicate that she was very much not Emma Birch. After all, she was alive. But more because this girl sounded most undignified with her voice echoing.

But the potential for the dramatic was just too high. And Marissa-Jean never passed on the chance to be dramatic. And neither did the great Barbra Streisand.

So, she took a deep breath. And in her best ghost voice, she called out “Ooh. Yes it is I, Emma Birch. And I am so hungry for little girls.”
