THE BASICS
Name: Sarah Ann Darcy. Nicknames? How hard is it to say Sarah, seriously.

Former Character's Name (if you had one): Ember Harlow

CHARACTER DETAILS

House Request:

I believe Sarah would be most suited to Slytherin house, not just because of blood status or the fact that many of the Darcy that are situated in England were sorted into that house but because I feel her personality suits the house. She’s quite full of herself but only because she's usually right and therefore assumes she can afford to be. She cares more for academic intelligence than looks but people who seem to find looks important fascinate Sarah. Sarah is not the easiest person to get along with seeing as she is rather opinionated and stubborn.

Biography:

(I applied for Elsewhere until term started, I hope it's okay if I use the same biography)

"Oh, dear, you speak as if you have any participation in the destination of your future at all."

Sarah hadn't even waited for her mothers sickly giggles to stop resonating around the large room before she left the dinner table at once and retreated to the sanctuary of her bedroom without dismissal. She hated when they talked about her future like she wasn't there, like she wasn't a person with feelings and opinions but merely a doll for them to fashion to their own design. She learnt from that day, from the age of 5, that she would have no choice over anything. Not even her own life.

She had only been little and had found herself huddled under her bedding with her stuffed unicorn crying. Crying because he had wanted to be a unicorn tamer so badly, crying because her mother had laughed at her as if it were a stupid dream, and crying because she knew she was growing up and she would soon have to face the life they had created for her. If it had been now, however, she wouldn't have cried. She would have clenched her teeth and smiled at her mother. Smiled whilst concocting ways in order to defy her.

From then on she had trained herself mercilessly to hide her emotions, to not share her burdens with anyone but her journal and her friend Louis. She had met Louis when she was 8 and had found out he was 10. Being mature for her age, as she already knew what life had in store for her, they hit it off straight away and became best friends. He had lived in the town down the hill from their manor and she had often travelled the distance to meet him. They shared secrets and talked about the future and generally what was on their minds. They were always together, he felt like the big brother she never had, much better than Ezra any day. Occasionally, Sarah would invite him back to the house and she would play the piano for him and he would sit and listen, then clap when she had finished. She would curtsy and then they would both laugh. Laugh about how silly they looked. Laugh about how ridiculously easy life seemed. Laugh because they knew it couldn't last...even if she wanted to, Sarah knew nothing good ever lasted.

And she had been right. Two years later she would find herself slamming her bedroom door in fury, her face red with large tear drops threatening to burst free from her eyes. She wouldn't cry, it would mean they had won. She had angrily dabbed her eyes with the back of her sleeve and set off to play the piano loudly and aggressively. It had been this day that her mother had forbidden her to see anymore of Louis, her best friend. Her only friend. Her mother had told her she had been feeling uncomfortable at how close they were getting, at how it was inappropriate for a girl of 10 and a boy of 12 to have such a relationship. Sarah hadn't seen the problem, neither had Louis or his family but her mother had, and therefore there was no questioning the matter. Her mother didn’t understand, she didn’t want to understand. To Sarah, Louis had been more like family than any of her real family had been and now her mother had ruined it. Louis would have to go, taking their friendship and the majority of her happiness with him.

Later on, she overheard the real reason when she slipped down late at night one winter evening. She hadn't been able to sleep and had gone to find a house elf to get her some hot chocolate. Instead she found her mother and father still awake in his study. It was strictly forbidden for her to enter without permission but she didn't intend to and didn't need to. The door had been ajar anyway and she had arrived at just the right time to hear about how her mother had 'successfully removed the filthy muggle born from her daughters life'. Her only regret was that it hadn't been fast enough. Sarah suspected her mother thought she would have forgotten about Louis after a couple of months, but she hadn’t. Sarah herself felt betrayed somehow, that maybe if he had told her he was a muggle born in the first place they could have avoided becoming friends and the sadness she had felt at loosing him. Now all she felt was hatred, hatred for having had to show her emotions all those months ago when her mother had first told her they couldn't see each other again. Hatred for Louis for not telling her in the first place. Hatred for muggle borns who she suspected to be all the same, liars and trouble makers. From that day on, she hadn't spoken to any of the half bloods or muggle borns in the town below and only a passing nod or careless wave to the pure blooded families if anything.

When her Hogwarts letter arrived a sense of relief washed over her. It wasn't just a letter of acceptance that had been expected ever since the day of her birth, it was freedom. It was the escape that Sarah so craved and it had been delivered, although rather late, finally. Life at Hogwarts would be better than life at home. She would be able to do what she wanted when she wanted and would be able to talk to whoever without punishment. For Sarah it was the best thing that could have possibly happened and she couldn't wait to leave. Her mother, knowing she wouldn't be seeing her 'beloved' daughter for at least 3 months was a little kinder to her, showering her with gifts, hugs and kisses that she found herself accepting for the mere fact that she would be out of the house soon. Unfortunately not for good.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Personality:

Sarah isn't your usual 11 year old girl. She's not the one to obsess over fashion or beauty charms, she leaves that unnecessary information to her mother who insists on dressing her up in the latest fashions much to her own detestation. She prefers to be by herself, reading literary books or practising her instruments, of which Violin and Piano are her favourites. She is known to hold intelligence beyond her years and an understanding of life unexpected of a child of her age. She's highly inquisitive and to most impertinent, though not intentionally. Sarah seems to think everyone is as thick skinned as herself and sometimes forgets that others aren't as in control as their emotions as she is.

Likes

Literature - Sarah believes literature is a window to the soul. It's beautiful and intriguing with many ways to interpret it, giving her many hours of entertainment time; her favourites being Pollyanna and The Importance of Being Ernest.

Asking questions - You don't get answers without asking questions. This, Sarah has said many times. People don't seem to understand that concept and instead quiz her for her need to know the answers. She is simply interested and wanting to know more about a certain subject and sees no problem with it.

Exploring - You don't get an insight on the world without visiting a few places first. Sarah just loves exploring new places, by herself, or with a friend. Though if things get rough, she doesn't wait behind for anyone.

Dislikes

People who ignore her/think she can't understand - She may be young, but she can understand things. More things than people give her credit for. It really irritates Sarah when people think she is too young to be able to comprehend simple things and so dumb them down for her. She doesn't need things dumbing down, sometimes she feels like she needs to dumb things down for others.

People who show their emotions - Sarah hates this. People who show their emotions are easy to break, weak and hopeless. She doesn't do hopeless people because in the end they always need to be taken care of and thats not her style.

Her family - They think she's something she's not. She's not like them, she doesn't conform to what society thinks is right, she does her own thing. Wears her own thing and doesn't care what anyone has to say about it. Her family have tried many times to change her against her will. This, however, doesn't sit too well with Sarah.

Appearance:

Sarah is said to look more like her Grandmother than any other person in her family. Just like her, she has strawberry blonde hair, light dusting of freckles and hazel eyes with added flecks of gold. She's rather pale and therefore dislikes being out in the sun too long  as she burns easily and who likes being burnt really? Sarah is rather small for her age and naturally slim which irritates her as it makes her seem weak and unable to stick up for herself which is not so. With her looks originating from her grandmother and not her parents Sarah often sticks out among family gatherings.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY

Option I:

Blimey, the Great Hall was packed. It seemed like everywhere a guy looked there was some clown waving around a House banner or yelling about the game.

'Can you believe it?' 'No way!' 'This must be the biggest upset in Hogwarts Quidditch history...'

Stupid Quidditch.

James flopped into an empty seat at the end of the table, shoved an empty plate out of the way, and let his head sink onto his crossed arms, squishing his freckled nose down flat against the tabletop. He wasn't sure why he'd even bothered to come here, since he definitely wasn't hungry. He'd probably never eat again, in fact. He didn't deserve to eat. He hadn't stopped in the locker room to change out of his muddy, sweaty uniform after the game either, because he was pretty sure he probably didn't deserve to be clean too; and anyway he couldn't stand to see the looks on his team mates' faces after he blew their chance at winning one of the biggest games they had ever played.

Just one lousy shot. That's all it would have taken. If he could have just got that one stupid foul shot to go through that one stupid hoop, they could have won and he wouldn't have been the biggest blockhead in the entire school.

As if to prove the point, half the people at the next table suddenly broke into a loud victory chant. James pressed his face further into his arms to hide the bright red blotches he could feel creeping up his cheeks. That was it. He was just going to have to run away and move to Nova Scotia. He'd just cost the three-year-in-a-row Champions the Quidditch Cup! How do you ever live that one down for crying out loud? He was only a second year and he was going to spend the rest of his life as 'that dumb cry-baby kid who dropped the Quaffle!'

It felt like every set of eyes in the room was boring into him, and James couldn't stand it anymore. He jerked himself back up from the table and stomped right back out of the Hall the same way he had come in. As he stormed into the quieter hallway outside, he could hear footsteps somewhere behind him. James rounded on the sound and began to shout, his brown eyes shining with tears. "WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"

Sample Roleplay Response:

"WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"

A loud shout like that could easily startle a person and it wouldn't be strange for them to have jumped or flinched at least but Sarah did neither of these things. Instead she simply stood wide eyed, her books clutched tightly to her chest as she inspected the older boy. She rose an eyebrow inquisitively as she wondered what could have possibly got him into such a bad mood. A muddy Quidditch outfit and a bad temper. Sarah wasn't stupid, she could put two and two together and as she did so a small smile spread across her lips.

"So you're the Quidditch player who has just cost the.. what was it? 3 year champions their win? Shouldn't you be jetting off to some far off country in order to escape the hunt they are inevitably planning in order to catch you."

Sarah encircled the older boy as she spoke the smile never leaving her lips. She wasn't interested in Quidditch. To her it was a silly sport in which there were no winners. Just silly wizards and witches with nothing better to do but fly around and perform tricks like some sort of performing animal. The news, however, of this boys failure had circled the entire school whether they enjoyed Quidditch or not.

It seemed quite a few people weren't too happy about the loss of the cup and had a couple of jinxes or two up their sleeves in order to 'rectify' the situation. Rather him than her Sarah thought. She personally liked to be able to go to sleep at night without worrying someone was after her, watching over her, bidding their time. As she came to stand in front of the boy once more, Sarah tilted her head to look him directly in the eyes that seemed to be watering. She frowned slightly before sighing.

"You're not going to cry are you?"
