THE BASICS
Name: Briar Mitchell DeGalen.

Former Character's Name (if you had one): N/A

CHARACTER DETAILS
House Request: Ravenclaw.
Briar has always been considered extremely intelligent by all of his friends and family. As a child, his parents placed him in a muggle school in hopes of him fitting in before (hopefully) he would be accepted into Hogwarts. By the time he had turned eight, he had finished primary school ahead of everyone else. He was never satisfied with learned just a few things about a topic; he would always be delving into books to learn new things about everything that he could. Because of his thirst for knowledge, he became a very inward - seeking child. He would rarely talk to others, and when he did, it was usually about something obscure that he was thinking. Briar was often teased for his eccentric ways, and now his parents hope for him to find comfort at Hogwarts.

Year:
First; Second.

Bloodline:
Halfblood.

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms.

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination.

Biography:
Briar awoke to the sound of silence penetrating through his walls. Lately, this was the sound that he was waking up to more and more often. Most people would say, “Well, actually, silence isn’t a sound,” but Briar would tell you otherwise, if he was feeling up to talking that day. He would say that silence is the sound that breaks the noise.

He arose from his bed and went downstairs to where his parents were waiting for him in the kitchen. He smiled at them, and they smiled back. His mother handed him a letter. Briar looked at the letter with unblinking eyes. The seal on the back showed that the letter was from none other than Hogwarts School of Magic. Briar had read all about Hogwarts in “Hogwarts: A History”, so he knew why he was receiving this letter. He had just turned eleven the previous month, so he was expecting a letter from them. He looked back up at his parents. “It came.” They smiled brightly at him, waiting for him to open the letter. He opened the letter and read his acceptance. He smiled brightly and thought of all the classes he would take, knowledge he would gain, and books he would read. He knew it was the place for him. Briar sealed his fate with a quick nod, then looked at his parents again. “Can we go to Flourish and Blotts now please?”

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please include these sections if they are not addressed in your biography.

Personality:
Briar is mostly reclusive, preferring to read and study than attend social events. He is very inquisitive, and once he gets into a particular subject, he is almost feverish in his studies. He is considered “weird” by his peers because he doesn’t talk much. When he does talk, it is usually about something having to do with knowledge. For an eleven year old, he is highly intelligent.

Appearance:
Briar has short, blond hair, blue eyes, and an innocent looking face. His build and stature is that of a normal nine year old, meaning he is small for his age. His eyes are always shifting, looking for more information, while his small mouth rarely opens to speak.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
You come across one of these three posts on the site. Please reply to one only as your character would.
*** Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not James' or Astrid's.

Option I:

Blimey, the Great Hall was packed. It seemed like everywhere a guy looked there was some clown waving around a House banner or yelling about the game.

'Can you believe it?' 'No way!' 'This must be the biggest upset in Hogwarts Quidditch history...'

Stupid Quidditch.

James flopped into an empty seat at the end of the table, shoved an empty plate out of the way, and let his head sink onto his crossed arms, squishing his freckled nose down flat against the tabletop. He wasn't sure why he'd even bothered to come here, since he definitely wasn't hungry. He'd probably never eat again, in fact. He didn't deserve to eat. He hadn't stopped in the locker room to change out of his muddy, sweaty uniform after the game either, because he was pretty sure he probably didn't deserve to be clean too; and anyway he couldn't stand to see the looks on his team mates' faces after he blew their chance at winning one of the biggest games they had ever played.

Just one lousy shot. That's all it would have taken. If he could have just got that one stupid foul shot to go through that one stupid hoop, they could have won and he wouldn't have been the biggest blockhead in the entire school.

As if to prove the point, half the people at the next table suddenly broke into a loud victory chant. James pressed his face further into his arms to hide the bright red blotches he could feel creeping up his cheeks. That was it. He was just going to have to run away and move to Nova Scotia. He'd just cost the three-year-in-a-row Champions the Quidditch Cup! How do you ever live that one down for crying out loud? He was only a second year and he was going to spend the rest of his life as 'that dumb cry-baby kid who dropped the Quaffle!'

It felt like every set of eyes in the room was boring into him, and James couldn't stand it anymore. He jerked himself back up from the table and stomped right back out of the Hall the same way he had come in. As he stormed into the quieter hallway outside, he could hear footsteps somewhere behind him. James rounded on the sound and began to shout, his brown eyes shining with tears. "WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"

Sample Roleplay Response: Briar walked into the Great Hall with the rest of his classmates for dinner. He quickly sat down at his house table and began to eat. He wasn’t really hungry, actually, but he did what all the rest of the students did, even if he hadn’t attended the quidditch game earlier. He looked around at the Hall and saw the myriad of people with different banners and colors waving around, and listened to the shouting of the teams as they continued the jeers from on the field.

He quickly finished up his dinner and got up to go back to the library, where he had been earlier. Just as he had stood up, a taller boy rushed past him, knocking him over. Briar laid on his back for a few seconds, slightly stunned by what had just happened. Had the other boy even noticed him as he was rushing past? Probably not. Briar picked himself back up. No one around him had seen the incident because of all the commotion. He left the Hall quickly, letting the doors shut behind him.

Briar walked down the hallway to the library, taking the same route he always did in the time after dinner. The halls were relatively empty, so he was able to walk quickly. A pair of shoes squeaked in front of his, and before he realized it, the boy who had knocked him down earlier was talking to him.

"WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!" the boy shouted at Briar.

Briar was started by the sudden outburst. He quickly noticed the tears in the boy’s eyes. “I’m sorry that you think you’re a loser,” the blond said quietly. He walked closer to the boy and patted him on the back. “Whatever happened, I’m sure it won’t happen again. The laws of physics won’t allow it.” He hoped the boy would understand what he really meant by this. He gave the boy a small smile and went on his way.

Optional: I found this site through a Google search. I was looking for HP roleplaying sites, and this was the most interesting one that came up.
