Biography:

The first spell she ever cast was a scourgify. Not that Clem knew it had been, of course. She’d managed it quite by accident as she’d stood in the kitchen of their family home, not even nine years old. She remembered, now, looking round the room, mouth slightly parted with horror at the mud tracks various Fowl children had left behind them as they’d come stumbling in from a particularly waterlogged forest. Of course, she had only finished mopping it five minutes before.

Typical.

She remembered the sensation of rising panic in her belly. She could picture her mother’s expression when she came in and saw the state of the kitchen that she’d charged Clem with cleaning, an entire hour before. She could practically hear the angry words ringing in her ears. She cursed herself for not having guarded her hard work more carefully. And then –

It hadn’t been a perfect spell by any means, but one moment she was looking around the muddy room, heart in her throat, and the next the mud was disappearing from the floor, leaving only patches and streaks here and there. She had run squealing to her mother, and she still remembered the look of pride that had crossed Kathleen’s face. It had faded quickly enough, though, with the knowledge that there were muddy children to round up.

Clem would never have said that she had an unhappy childhood. The love she experienced as a member of the Fowl family was a luxury that she never took for granted. Still, it was her snatched hours alone in the forest that were her most treasured moments. The house was always a tumble of noise, a riot of children. As the oldest daughter, she had been acting as her mother’s deputy for as long as she could remember, maybe even before she could remember. The role was something that came to her as naturally as breathing, and yet she often envied her younger siblings for their relative immaturity. Sometimes, she resented the responsibilities that came with her place in the family.

Even at Hogwarts, there was not much reprieve. Her first year there was relatively peaceful, with only herself and Roland at the school. After that, however, as the younger Fowls began to trickle in, Clem carried her care around with her – always worrying about them, always painfully aware that Kathleen expected her to keep the watchful eye on her younger siblings that their mother no longer could.

It was her duty, Clem knew, and if there was one thing that had always held true, it was that you did not shirk your duty. The family could only function if everyone pulled their weight, and yet as she became older, her sense of injustice grew. Often, it focused on Roland – of equal age to her, and yet as a son, Kathleen had never expected of him what she expected of Clementine. More and more, she found herself jealous of his carefree attitude, of his lack of responsibility.

As she turned 16, she began to wonder if she would spend her whole life watching out for her younger siblings. She began to wonder what she would even do with all the hours that she currently spent worrying over one of the other of them, checking homework, patching up scrapes. And she began to wonder if it wasn’t about time that she started to have a little fun for herself.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: No preference!

Personality: To the casual observer, Clem appears quiet and studious. She is not particularly talkative and can appear to be shy, reserved and even something of a doormat. This is an underestimation of Clementine Fowl; though one she has never particularly challenged. In fact, having spent her life effectively acting as her mother’s second-in-command, keeping the rest of the Fowl brood in check, she has an inner resolve and firmness that might surprise others. This borders occasionally (or even frequently) on outright stubbornness.

The most surprising aspect of her personality might be her thirst for adventure; however, her almost overactive sense of duty has always led her to repress this, made possible by her immense self-control. Clem has always put others before herself, and never is this more true than when it comes to her family. Even despite her growing sense of resentment, her loyalty to her family is her first concern, and her protective instincts are still a significant influence on her.

Appearance: Clem is best described as delicate-looking, even fragile. She has a thin face; high cheekbones, straight nose, full lips. Her eyes are light blue; a smattering of freckles appears across her skin, particularly her nose, at even the slightest hint of sun, and her cheeks tinge pink with alarming ease. She keeps her dark brown hair long, and when left alone it naturally forms very loose waves that come to just below her shoulders. She’s tall, standing at about 5”9, and naturally thin.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Please reply to one of the Sample Roleplays below.

She’d always wanted to play Quidditch for the House team.

She watched every match since she’d been at Hogwarts, up in the stands with her little group of friends, eagerly following the Quaffle from Chaser to Chaser, squealing with the rest when a Seeker suddenly shot through the air like an arrow. But she’d been busy with other things, too distracted with her family duties to be able to give up the time for training that the Captains insisted upon.

Sometimes, she was so jealous of the players, up there on the pitch, that it left a bad taste in her mouth. Other times she wasn’t.

“Why don’t you just take a picture!”

The two girls flanking her giggled, but Clem – much despite herself – felt only pity. For a moment, she considered continuing on with her friends – after all, this really was no business of hers. She had enough to worry about with all the Fowl brood. She had no space for others.

She sighed.

“Why don’t you guys go ahead?” She waited until the giggling girls had disappeared up the stairs back to the common room before she approached the younger boy.

“Ignore them,” she said kindly. “All of them.” She fished in her pocket for a tissue, came up with a handful of plasters, a broken quill and finally, hit gold. She offered it to him. “Look, everyone starts somewhere. You know, I remember when that captain of yours couldn’t have scored a goal if the hoop had been ten foot wide.”

She smiled. “Why don’t you come with me, and we’ll see if we can scrounge something up from the Kitchens?” After all, Clem had enough brothers to know that nothing quite spoke to a boy’s heart quite like food.
