Name: Talia Claire Elsie Piper

Birthday: May 31st, 1948

Hometown: Brighton, England

Bloodline: Muggleborn

Magical Strength: Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Transfiguration

Year: First or second

Biography:
It was a sunny spring morning, the clock just striking ten and the clouds clearing up over Brighton, England. Somewhere in the small county hospital there lay one newborn child, sound asleep. That child was named Talia, after the greek word 'to bloom', exactly what the flowers were doing. The soft hearted baby girl was raised in a cheerful two story beach house painted bright blue, its windows always open to allow the sea breeze to blow through the home, cotton curtains rippling in the wind. Of the three others in the house, there was Talia's sister, Katherine, born four years before, and who her little sister loved with her entire heart, as well as her parents, Joey and Sadie Piper, both muggles and marine biologists. There was also, of course, their dog Toasty, a whoodle, who was brought into the family when Talia was seven.

When Talia's sister showed her first signs of magic, the Piper parents were confused and worried. Talia developed strange abilities a few years after, which were discovered when she calmed the high tides that threatened to destroy her sand castle by just looking at the water. Joey and Sadie dismissed these odd events, hoping they would go away with time. The young family only found answers when Katherine received her Hogwarts letter some time later.

Life was unproblematic for Talia. She lived right by the beach in a sweet little seaside town full of lovely people who all adored her for her youth and spunk, and was raised in a loving family.

Or at least, life was unproblematic for Talia until her mother developed schizophrenia. Tal was nine, then, and the news sent the Piper family into a frenzy of emotion and panic. Medical bills began to pile up as doctors did everything they could to keep Sadie from losing her mind, but nothing worked. Everything was different after that, but just as she had learned while surfing, Talia tried her best to ride with the waves of change.

After Katherine had four years earlier, receiving her Hogwarts letter wasn't a surprise for Talia, though she had to keep it secret from her muggle friends. The young girl was elated to be joining her older sister at the school she'd heard amazing things about, but also extremely anxious to walk right into a whole new world that she didn't know much about at all. Still, she set out to Hogwarts with her hopes and dreams ahead of her.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Response:

Perhaps one of Talia's favourite places to be was in nature. To see the fluffy clouds and the beautiful blue sky up above her head, the scent of the outdoors and the sounds of wildlife all in the air. She especially adored the flower fields. Maybe it was because she felt like Alice in Wonderland, or maybe it was just because of how charming and whimsical the setting was. So, on a lovely sunny day like this one, where else was she to go?

She was lying in the field, legs crossed at the ankles and clasped hands resting on her tummy, watching the clouds slowly floating by. When she saw one that resembled something, she would announce it quietly to the flora that surrounded her. The flora was company enough, and although Talia was alone, she was certainly not lonely.

The moment was calm as could be, and slowly, Talia's focus drifted from the sky to her own imaginary world. She didn't know how long she was off in her daydreams, but she was pulled back into reality when a rat scurried by, stopping right in front of her. Talia blinked at it, wondering whether she should just leave it be, until she heard someone saying something about a rat nearby. Talia scooped the rat into her arms and gracefully stood up, brushing her skirt off and looking towards the direction that she had heard the voice coming from. Spotting an older boy, she began to walk over towards him.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Talia came to a halt, and looked at him with wide eyes. She hadn't meant to bother him, and she didn't quite understand why he was already so irritated with her.

"Hullo," she said quietly, giving him a shy wave with the hand that wasn't holding the creature. "Were you the one shouting about a rat?"
