Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Dymphna Méabh Teague

Birthday: 11 July 1949

Hometown: Malahide, Ireland

Bloodline:
Pureblood | ⅛ Veela

Magical Strength:
Transfiguration

Magical Weakness:
Divination

Year: Sixth or Fifth

Biography:
Uncommon in Ireland, there are three generations living under one roof: her mother Orlagh moved in with her boyfriend-now-husband Conn and his parents upon leaving Hogwarts. After years of marriage and a miscarriage, Dymphna was born into a loving and supportive family in the seaside. Her childhood was a mix of muggle and magical, with Dymphna participating in both learning to fly on a broomstick and taking ballet classes. She attended an all-girls muggle school before Hogwarts where she quickly made friends and excelled in her studies.

Like many within her family, she became interested in history, literature, and languages. However, she was closest to her mother and looked to her for guidance, respected her for her Healing profession, and hoped to someday follow in her footsteps. There was no doubt that whatever she set her mind to, she would accomplish through her hard work and determination to succeed.

Not always so serious, Dymphna found playing in the sandbox, picking wildflowers in the fields and watching the boats in the harbor just as fun and fulfilling as studying. There was something even more special about it; it made her heart happy and before going off to school, she made a silent promise to herself to value the simple things and small accomplishments in life just as much as the big ones. Like many Friday afternoons, her entire family had gathered around at her house for a meal and a chat about the goings-on around town, how busy work had been, or even their family genealogy. When suddenly an owl came pecking at the window with a crisp white envelope so eloquently written with her name... and so it began.

Her first year at Hogwarts was quite tame compared to what would happen next. She did well in her studies, quickly made new friends, and landed a spot on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. She had her insecurities as many preteens do, but school life was pleasant enough. It was the start of her second year when things began to change. Her dad got sick. They spent a lot of time in and out of St. Mungo's until he was given a room there.

She was mostly left in the dark about it all; her family wanted her to have as normal a childhood as possible. A plan was quickly formed by the family. Her grandmother insisted that she live at Malahide Castle, to continue her studies and with her mother absent, Dymphna agreed. Her grandmother pulled her out of school, deciding it best to homeschool, as well as teach her to be a proper young lady. She saw it as a fresh start, to teach her granddaughter everything that her own daughter was unwilling to learn.

Unsurprisingly, Dymphna did well in her homeschooling studies. Though there were lessons on manners and etiquette, ballroom dancing, talks of being married into another Pureblood family. Her grandmother was treating her like a pawn, a way to move up. The family had lost some of their wealth, earned disrespect from the more traditional families, and Eithne was still bitter. She hoped to mold Dymphna into her version of a perfect young lady, fit to run a household for a wealthy Pureblood husband. Something that Eithne herself lacked, thinking that she was marrying into wealth herself when that wasn't the case.

Dymphna felt numb to it all, going along with her grandmother's wishes. The only times she felt truly alive were in the stables among the winged horses. She had riding lessons around the property. Dueling lessons with her grandfather in the courtyard. While her grandmother focused on gaining the upper hand, her grandfather made sure she kept up with the studies that were more important to her, what her friends at school would be learning. Eventually, she was ready to return to Hogwarts.

Her grandfather was on her side. Her grandmother was not. Instead, she planned parties for Dymphna to mingle with other Purebloods, to show her off in hopes that the families would reconnect. It was during one of these parties that Dymphna escaped on horseback. She made her way to her auntie Dioreann in France. She was welcomed with open arms. They made their way to Egypt where her aunt was working on a column.

They spent time in museums, visiting the pyramids, and touring the Egyptian Academy for Alchemy. Her love of languages grew during this time, leading her to study Hieroglyphs as well as French, with plans to attend Euroglyphs in London someday. Once they returned home, she started in the middle of the school year at Beauxbatons. The next few years were rough, catching up on anything she missed during her homeschooling, navigating a language barrier and reconnecting with her mother. The sporadic postcards were replaced by long letters filled with tales of her time back in school.

She longed for home, for Hogwarts, but made the best of her situation. Beauxbatons became her new home away from home. She valued the friends she made there, the education she was able to obtain, but when her mother wrote to ask if she wanted to return after the school year was over, she jumped at the chance. With her father still in hospital, her mother back in the workforce, trying to get him well, Dymphna returned to her strange house by the seaside. Having stepped foot in her bedroom for the first time in years, she felt as though time stood still. Everything was where she'd left it.

But nothing was the same as before. Her father wasn't playing Celestina Warbeck on the gramophone. Her mother wasn't humming along while cooking dinner. Her family had fallen apart. The house felt too empty after being in a dorm full of gossiping girls. She left her trunks packed. With her Pygmy Puff by her side, she decided it was time to get reacquainted with Hogwarts. Starting with summer camp.

House Request: Ravenclaw

Personality:
While Dymphna is unorganized and easily gets off task, she’s a diligent scholar, known to study late into the night. When it comes to her favorite subjects like Transfiguration, she breezes through the assignments with ease. However, with the assignments she struggles with, it’s easy for her to lose train of thought and end up studying something completely different, but more interesting to her. When she is interested, she commits to that subject whole-heartedly and strives to learn everything she can about it.

She’s hardworking and independent, often too proud to ask for help when she actually needs it. When it comes to making friends, while she may have some worries and insecurities, it’s easy to get along with her due to her friendly and outgoing nature. She’s not extroverted though. Dymphna loves to spend time alone or with small groups of friends, chatting amongst themselves or reading a good book curled up next to the fireplace.

At first, she may give too many chances to folks who don’t deserve her time, but once she meets her true friends, she’s loyal through and through. She’s the type of friend who will never forget your birthday and gift something you forgot you even wanted. She picks up on details that way. Her side of the dorm might look messy but she isn’t the type to forget where she’s put something. Watch out for her in Quidditch and other activities as she can be competitive and defensive of her teammates, and even more critical of mistakes she makes herself.

Appearance:
Dymphna has the typical traits of a Veela: fair complexion, blonde hair, and blue eyes. She comes from a long line of Irish Wizardry, with her great-grandmother being a Full Veela of unknown origins. At sixteen, she stands at 5’7 (170cm) which is her biggest insecurity. The way she prefers to dress is perhaps more formal than her peers, and feminine; preferring skirts and dresses over trousers. Her uniform is well kept and she doesn’t break rules in regards to how she wears it. She can usually be seen wearing a vintage locket with the Teague family crest, a gift from her parents when she received her Hogwarts letter.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet traveled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Dymphna was exploring the castle. Ending up in the dungeons was a mistake but she didn’t mind the quiet. The only noise was her own footsteps echoing down the corridor. The darkness wasn’t particularly frightening to her, but she was much more used to being in the bright sunlight. She was afraid that a professor would find her there, questioning why she was there in the first place. It wasn’t in her nature to lie, and she wasn’t very convincing anyway. The castle was just too big, with so many curious little nooks and crannies to explore.

A rather thick History book slipped from her arms, the thud echoing around the walls. She could have swore she heard a voice but perhaps it was the quiet playing tricks on her. It wasn’t until she heard it again, louder this time, that she recognized it as another girl’s voice. Peeking around the corner, Dymphna saw another blonde haired student standing there, looking frightened. “Are you alright?”

She didn’t know any Emma Birch, though the name sounded familiar somehow. If the girl was trying to meet a Slytherin friend, she didn’t mind helping her to track them down. “What’s she look like? I can help you find her.” She stepped around the corner, revealing her own school uniform. “I’m Dymphna, but my friends call me Dymph.” Her hand was outstretched for a handshake as she saw the adults do upon meeting. It was polite to introduce herself; her parents would be proud.

TAKEN BY ROSE

Dymphna (dimf-nah) and the Teagues were a family that I created in 2016. I've put a lot of thought into them but I haven't opened them up to being adoptables before. They have a long history that I haven't completed yet, but it may or may not work for HS anyway. Does it matter after the Time Warp? Anyway, for now I'll just say that their ancestry can be traced back to Vikings / Norse–Gaels nobility. They come from old money but their wealth has dwindled. The richest person in the family is Eithne. Everyone else is comfortable, not able to keep multiple estates but not living paycheck to paycheck either. Please reach out to me here or on Discord (Rosebud#4327) if you'd like to discuss anything!

None of these appeal to you? Feel free to message me with ideas for your own characters within the family. I'm pretty open to giving her parents and grandparents siblings. Even Eoghan who was murdered could have a long lost child or something. I'm down for anything!

Conn Teague
 30s-40s | simon baker | huffle alumni | goofball | free-spirited | loyal | pic
NPC FOR NOW

Interests: history, antiques, muggle items.
Conn (Kon) is the father of Dymphna. He either works in an antique shop or a museum (whatever there is need for on site). His upbringing was laidback and he lives in the same house as when he was a child - the small bed and breakfast his parents run. He's a cheerful fellow who loves his wife and family. It takes a lot to make him mad but he's also a sensitive soul (ex: cried when Dymphna went to camp). He may act differently around men outside of the family, trying to appear like a "real manly man" as to not "shame the family name." In conclusion, he's a man-child without being disrespectful to his wife or home. *He is currently in St. Mungo's for an illness.
Tidbits: his patronus is a Chestnut Stallion; he's owned various cats over the years. He and his wife were childhood friends then Hogwarts sweethearts, but they had miscarriages and weren't able to have Dymphna until seven years into their marriage.

Orlagh Teague née Sloane
 30s-40s | january jones | raven alumni | empathetic | determined | pic
OPEN

Interests: gardening, reading, sewing.
Orlagh (or-lah) is the mother of Dymphna. She's a Healer at St. Mungo's (department of your choosing) and will occasionally experience sexism and issues with her Veela heritage while working. She has taken time off from work due to these issues and has considered a different career, up to you if she goes another route. She has a more serious personality than her husband but that doesn't mean she doesn't know how to have fun. I think of them as balancing one another out. She's organized and meticulous, and extremely family oriented.
Tidbits: Her patronus is a White Mare (to go along with her husbands). She has an owl named Driscoll. She's 1/4 Veela and was raised in a small castle in Malahide. She and her husband were childhood friends (same hometown) and eventually Hogwarts sweethearts before getting married. It took them many miscarriages and seven years of marriage to have Dymphna. *Would love to have some sort of adoption plot so Dymph can have siblings!

Anlon Teague
 60s-70s | michael douglas | gryff alumni | quiet | expressive | pic
NPC, please ask before using

Interests: old cars, travel.
Anlon (an-lon) is Dymphna's paternal grandfather. His ancestors built the house where three generations live. It's also been turned into a small bed and breakfast, only having enough room for a few people at a time. He also works at the Post Office. He and his wife Cao met during their Hogwarts years but he thought of her as an annoyance at first (three year age difference). They slowly became friends but didn't date until after leaving Hogwarts. They had their son out to wed-lock (oopsie baby) and got married sometime during his childhood.
Tidbits: His patronus is a blackbird. While he was once able to speak, he has since lost the ability through it's mysterious as to why (to Dymphna). I don't have the full details plotted out yet but he may have been cursed. Because of my indecisiveness about what happened to him, I don't feel comfortable having him as an adoptable character but he's still an important member of the family.

Caoifhoinn Teague née Burke
60s-70s | yasmina rossi?? | huffle alumni | laidback | odd (luna lovegood inspired) | pic
OPEN

Interests: eating (baking), farming.
Caoifhoinn "Cao" (key-lin) is Dymphna's paternal grandmother. Her main job is managing the bed and breakfast where the family live. However, Malahide isn't exactly a bustling town so she also has time to be a farmhand to the neighboring farms. She's a sheepdog animagus (registered unless you have a good reason for her not to be lol). She and her husband met during their Hogwarts years but didn't date until after they left school. They had Conn out of wed-lock and married sometime during his childhood. Her personality is similar to her sons, laidback but a bit odd. She doesn't care about social norms and will do what she wants, doesn't care for being feminine, polite, or following societal rules.
Tidbits: Her patronus is a Sheepdog.

Dioreann Burke
 60s | daphne guinness  | raven alumni | creative | adventurous | pic
OPEN

Interests: writing, travel, dating.
Dioreann "Dior" (dirren) is Dymphna's great-aunt and sister of Cao. She introduced Cao to Anlon when they all went to school together. During her time at Hogwarts, she wrote for the school newspaper. During her summers, she would write about her travels for her section of the paper that she called The Roaming Ravenclaw. Due to her consistent work on the paper, she was able to land an entry-level job and worked her way up to being an editor. Due to her work, she hasn't settled down and prefers dating around to having a husband.
Tidbits: Her patronus is a dragonfly. I've always seen her as bisexual lol. She took Dymphna in when she ran away from her grandparents. They travelled to Egypt together for Dior's work before returning to her home in France where Dymphna would attend Beauxbatons, before returning to Hogwarts.

Fergus Sloane
60s-70s | jeff bridges?? | gryff alumni | jubilant (inspired by fergus from brave) | pic
OPEN

Interests: winged horses (racing etc etc).
Fergus is Dymphna's maternal grandfather. He and his wife likely met at Hogwarts where he excelled in Care of Magical Creatures. At some point during his marriage, he moved into Malahide Castle (his wifes childhood home) and used the stables there to breed winged horses. He loves all animals though! He's an extremely cheerful person who looks at the world with optimism. While he does acknowledge the personality of his wife, he isn't afraid of her (as in her harpy-like features when angry etc). He believes in true love and thinks his wife is his soulmate, but she married him for his families influence rather than for love. This isn't something he's aware of.
Tidbits: His patronus is a brown bear.

Eithne Teague née Talbot
 70s | maye musk | slyther alumni | distrustful | serious | pic
OPEN

Interests: genealogy, dark arts, revenge.
Eithne (en-ya) is Dymphna's 1/2 Veela maternal grandmother (and one of my more fleshed out adoptables). Alongside her brother Eoghan (yo-in), she was given up by her father to be raised by her aunt in Malahide Castle. It's known that her father gave them up because he didn't want to leave his Veela lover. Her aunt raised her to be the "perfect wife" and she grew up feeling restricted, unlike her brother who was free to do as he pleased. Though she herself is marginalized due to being a known Veela, she seeks revenge on the (muggles?) ones who murdered her brother. She's one of the more traditional/elitists in the family and doesn't care who knows it. She married her husband because of his family name and influence rather than for love, and may regret it due to the Teague's dwindled wealth.
Tidbits: Her patronus is a pheasant. She took Dymphna in when her father got sick, and arranged her marriage to Alexander Darcy without her approval.
