Biography: (100 words minimum.)

It was a deep-seated, back-and-forth debate on whether Esmeralda would be born with the surname Alricsson or Lyons.

Moving to Spain hadn't always been the plan for Orion, her father, or Felicity, her mother. After they graduated from Hogwarts, one side wanted to move back to France and, eventually, Iceland. It was past time that the Alricssons fought for their rights back in Iceland, even if their family had been exiled after the war had torn allegiances and forced them to settle in the makeshift, stolen castle of a muggle nobleman. That, however, is another story entirely.

Felicity wished to remain in England and find opportunities there. It might be a struggle, outside a place of influence for either where they would need to establish their own roots. It was not a path Orion agreed on, given his life had always been one of promise and power. The very idea of struggling, despite doing so together, would not be swallowed by his pride.

Spain, however, felt like a compromise. Orion had never claimed the inheritance of his father's line; the usual ploy for the Alricssons in finding an ancient, pureblood family on the edge of death to steal all of their wealth through marriage. The Lyons line was one kept by stewardship, properties that were regularly taxed still, with a vaulted fortune that he could not access unless he wished to take up the name and all that came the nearly extinct line.

The transition didn't take long. In a year or two, they were settled into a normal rhythm. Building connections, gaining a seat in government and bribing the right people. It was a game Orion had always been built for and he threw his all into climbing and conniving his way to the point of influence.

Through that, Felicity had already birthed their first child. Ares, however, had to be an Alricsson. If not, they'd ultimately find themselves cursed. Not a superstition. Esmeralda, their daughter, on the other hand, could assume the name Orion was now proliferating. If Spain was to be their home, then surely she should accept a Spanish name and make it easier for her to rise in a society that had traditionally insulated itself from the rest of Europe. The argument raged for days between the couple, one of the fiercest they'd have since he'd met her all those years ago at Camp Loki. Felicity didn't want their children to have different names and didn't want there to be any divide when it came to their identities. If Ares would be an Alricsson, then Esme would have to be too.

As with most matters, Felicity's rationale won out. Esmeralda would have to do with that being part of her heritage, along with the Icelandic name that could trace its line back for more than a thousand years, to the origins of the True Althing that had bound the wizarding families of Iceland and created an order unseen in Magical Europe.

Little did it play into just who this girl was. Only in who she would ultimately become.

Esme had always welcomed the spotlight, even as a babe crying through nights on end and making it rather difficult for her parents to catch any sleep. She was demanding, though seemingly affectionate when given the attention she desired.

Growing up without need put the responsibility of interacting with the world on her shoulders. She was daring and bold, richly educated, and ever-curious about the things around her. She was quick to laugh and quick to get herself in trouble. When the world screamed for her to stop, she would find the words to scream back. There was a distinct sense of confidence since the moment she could walk, with every step leading to a new goal and a new conquest.

Still, that didn't mean you could step over people found along the way. Esme had always shown a rich spirit, making friends, and proving to make up the best parts of her parents. Her father always said her smile could light up a room, that he must have done something right by being blessed with her. To Felicity, Esme proved to be a double-edged sword of pride and worry about how her future would turn out.

That future felt like a lifetime away. For now, she was happy knowing her baby teeth were long gone and she could steal her brother's broom to fly around their palatial home without causing too much of a ruckus.

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

"...Do you want to play?"

Finally, the answer to her prayers!

An electric smile spread through her face, eyes brightening at the invitation. Esme had been sitting by herself, enjoying the weather, appreciating her luck in not having the sky covered with clouds and dimming out the sun behind the blanket of grey. Her colorful pullover was left open, her hood falling behind, as she welcomed the heat.

Watching others play wasn't usually what she'd have settled with. Esme tended to find where the biggest grouping of kids was and wedge herself into the fun. And sure, there were a small handful of kids playing different games at the park that day, but none that made her want to throw herself at just yet.

She was waiting for just the right moment, just the right cause, and she must have let it come find her before she found it.

"Yes!" She responded, clapping her tiny hands together. Pushing herself off the floor, the Spanish girl brushed off the dirt from her trousers first. Her hands collided once more, letting the dirt fall free, before extending her hand in greeting. A good judge of character, this act, to see just how messy these games could get. The dirtier games were usually the most fun, after all. Her favorite day out here was when it was raining and all they had to themselves was a quaffle to throw around the mud.

It was a truly terrific time.

"I'm Esmeralda, and you are?"
