If you are applying to be a fourth year or above, your biography must be at least three hundred words long.

On the outside are the facts.  The facts are that Dienne's parents love her and her siblings, and have a loving relationship.  Their life is very normal.  No Dark Arts in the bloodline atleast by three generations.  No blood wars (her Muggle Mum would be very disappointed in them).  No criminals--minus the one time Da punched a Quidditch ref, but they were pals--and no real strife.  The Orellana's are a regular family.  Unfortunately, with a regular family that has three kids with very distinct personalities, the family dynamics really cause some internal conflict.

Dienne was born after her older brother, Benjamin Jr.  Benji was a classic boy, all chaotic energy, temper, and need to seek out fun every ten seconds of every day.  Despite being two years after him, Dienne felt like the older sister since she was born.  It was made evident as a child when Benji knocked over her pram during one of his many magic episodes while she was inside and Dienne ended up on the ground uninjured, uncrying, and (likely internally if not physically capable) rolling her eyes.  Benji, who showed blooming signs of magic from a young age, differed greatly from Dienne, who was always mild in manner, temper, and magic experience.  Her father, to himself, was somewhat concerned that Dienne would be magicless.  As Dienne grew up, she would hide away from Benji's much more dynamic personality and seek out her own interests under the (unnoticed) watchful, approving eyes of her parents.

Dienne further faded into a supporting character when her little sister Judi was born four years after her.  Growing up, Judi defined terrible twos in a new way.  Dienne learned how to care for her baby sister and older brother by the age of seven, and was a fully trusted "sitter" for sorts by age nine.  She became unfallible, able to stare past chaos and temper tantrums.  It led her to dislike great displays of emotion and selfishness.  While her parents dealt with her siblings, she would slip away to adventure and tinker with her hobbies, whether that was stitching household items, investigating her father's collection of brooms, observing skilled workers in their natural habitat, or reading endless books Muggle and Magical alike.  She would occupy herself with these hobbies as she would accompany her father as his "little assistant" while he coached Quidditch teams.  She never suspected that he brought her along to give her a break from her obnoxious siblings and give her time to herself.  Benjamin Orellana Sr. was nothing but perceptive, and his wife Ninon was always in his ear to give Dienne as much life experience as possible to help the girl grow into herself.  Dienne attended Muggle primary school for a few years, until she was pulled out for "homeschooling" when her parents decided Hogwarts was her future and freed her from the pressure of faking friendships.

In the year leading up to Dienne's eleventh birthday, she travelled with her father more and more to distract her from the upcoming Hogwarts letter.  Would she, or would she not get it?  Was she not capable like her brother and sister?  Did magic only gravitate towards people who liked other people?  On the outside, she is expressionless, unemotional and blunt.  On the inside, a part of her quivers in self-doubt that she's not good enough like other people.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request:  Gryffindor.  Despite being very curious, deep down Dienne just wants to be herself and do what she wants to do, nevermind everyone else.  It will be a great identity development arc as she grows to discover she is not suited for Ravenclaw, and just embraces her audacity to be indifferent to everyone as a default mode.

Personality:
Tell us a bit about your character’s personality (likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) What are they like on a good day versus a bad one? Is your character particularly cheerful? Do they hate sunlight?

Dienne is blunt, speaks true to her inner thoughts, seeks rational explanation, and dislikes emotions.  She puts artifical distance between herself and others because she doesn't feel comfortable socializing with people.  She can't seem to connect with them, and does not always feel the urge to put on a play to get them to connect with her.  It's more likely people are in the acquaintances category, not friends.  She almost always has a straight face and serious eyes, even when in a good mood.  Dienne is naturally curious and inquisitive.  She seeks out what interests her, and doesn't care to step on people's feelings in the way of getting them out of her way or getting the answers out of them.  She does not like flying whatsoever, despite being born from a Quidditch coach.  She likes to study and prefers being outdoors than inside.  She dislikes chaos, loud voices, and tomfoolery.  On a good day, she's by herself immersed in the latest thing that has caught her attention.  On a bad day, she's trapped at a party with kids her age and she's forced to be play nice with them.

Appearance:
Briefly describe your character's appearance (hair color, build, stature, etc.) What effect does it have on their personality? For example, does the shy Ravenclaw girl secretly dye her hair black because she hates her natural blonde? Does the curly-haired Gryffindor use charms to hide his freckles?

Dienne is a tall child, standing at 5'0" with tanned skin.  She has a stocky torso, wide shoulders, wide hips, and long legs.  She's more dense and wide than gangly.  She has a round face, a small nose, and narrow lips.  She has sunken black eyes that are slightly narrow beneath thin eyebrows.  She's always wearing a serious expression.  Her straight black, undyed hair, is currently in a home cut shoulder length bob with too-long bangs that she likes to keep tied half back in a ponytail.  Her clothing is on the too-large, passdown size, and is simple in color and cut.  She doesn't wear frills, hates skirts, and favors utility clothes to be rough on than anything fragile.  Dienne could care less what she looks like; only that she wonders if others look at her weird.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Response:
When stomping feet came through a row of flowers Dienne Orellana was sketching, the only reaction the young girl had was a subtle shift upwards in her eyebrows, a widening of her eyes, and a rapid blink of her short eyelashes against her cheeks as if to mentally process the unneeded interruption trudging through her art session.  She'd had a recent itch to sketch, and had brought her sketchbook and utensils outdoors to embrace the sun and practice her ability.  Her sketched flowers looked more like jagged cogs, but it could be argued that Dienne was a seer predicting the fate of the poor flora rather than a terible artist.  She drew back in her crouch, letting her notebook drop into her lap, as she gazed impassively after the apparent frantic older boy.

When he pulled apart a set of flowers in the second row, Dienne thought she saw a flash of gray scramble just past his reach beneath the full leaves of a nearby hosta plant.  According to the boy, that scrap of gray might be a rat.  Dienne slowly blinked, focusing on the hosta plant first, then shifting her gaze to the boy.  Dienne disliked rats.  She disliked pets overall.  Likely she'd enter a territory war with a cat than be able to care for one.  Nevermind the owls scattered through Hogwarts who might view the rat as a convenient meal.  No, this was not a situation she felt she needed to assist with.

The dark haired girl was just concluding this when, after a tremendous and what appeared to be grossly wet sneeze, the boy turned his haughty nose her direction.  Well, part of his nose.  The other half appeared to be smeared on his sleeve.  Dienne's gaze flickered observing him, over his sleeve, down his front, then back up to his face.  No, indeed this was not a setting she needed to be involved.

"Bless you, and no," she responded shortly, turning her head back to the crushed florals and their unfortunate neighbors.  She pulled her notebook back up and posed her quill on the paper, starting to scratch at her sketch.

Biography: (100 words minimum.)
Dienne is the definition of a side character.  She is no hot-headed protagonist, nor crybaby damsel in distress.  She has no tragic backstory to contribute dark clouds and lightning to her personality.  She is not the intelligent heroine of a romance novel, nor the brave hero in a fantasy adventure.

She is the middle child to a wizard who met his Muggle wife by being bestmates with her Muggle-born wizard brother.  Ben and Ninon Orellana have a healthy marriage which includes the weekly row and the monthly empty threats to abandon eachother, followed by lovely dancing flowers to the wife and dinners for the husband in which dessert is always a homemade cake in the (poor) shape of a snitch.  Her Quidditch coaching father always appreciates the gesture, since her mother enjoys baking but declares that Quidditch in no way trumps Football.  They live together in a regular house in Chelsea, and venture overseas every few years to visit their relatives in France and Spain.

Dienne grew up in this normal household, trying to carve out her place between a hot-headed, impulsive brother, and a younger sister who could very well rule the world one day.  She was not big on creating lasting friendships in school, mainly due to her friends gravitating towards her more dynamic (Why don't you play with us, Dienne?) and interesting (Dienne, you're too boring to be around!) siblings once she brought them home to visit.  Instead, Dienne focused on bonding with her housewife mother who would indulge her middle child's penchant of picking up anything interesting and constantly wanting to learn.  Her father would appreciate the hobby as well; though Dienne never showed interest in Quidditch, she would curl up with her father on late evenings and ask many questions about magic, flying, how things worked, and more while her father listened to the radio and gave her as much information to prepare her for the magical world as possible.

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
"... What?"  Dark eyes widened over knees pulled up against a chest which held a wrinkled bit of cloth with loose strings unable to detach themselves from the well worn fuzzy shirt they clung to.  The wielder of cloth and needle gave a slow blink, letting dark eyelashes brush over round cheeks and sunken eyes, as she looked over this girl with her toy broom and sparking blue eyes.  "No?"  Dienne answered in mild confusion.  She had been intent on her task and had made a point to sit on a bench as far from other strangers as possible.  How did this girl find her?  And it was rather rude to be singled out so loudly!  Dienne took a quick glance around the park to see if they had attracted the attention of other kids.  The last thing Dienne wanted was to be pulled into any sort of group activity.

"I can't.  I'm watching my sister."  Dienne pointed out, gesturing with a pinky on the hand that held a needle and thread, towards a (dreaded) group of primary school-aged kids (if primary school could be understood by the young magic-bound kids found in this park) huddled around a sand pit.  Her younger sister, blonde and demanding, appeared to be leading whatever investigation was occurring.  Dark haired, quiet Dienne eyed her gesturing, dictator sibling and her minions with some apprehension.  Dienne would likely find out if whatever interested them was dangerous sooner or later.

"Keep playing with my brother and his friends.  You don't need me."  Dienne further clarified.  She pointed the pinky over to the three boys on their broomsticks chasing after the snitch.  Her older brother was supposed to be watching Dienne and their sister.  Unfortunately, that did not usually happen.  Hence why Dienne was practicing embroidering a used towel as she hoped neither of  her siblings would require it to mop out blood or mud.
