Biography:

Chelsea Kathryn Williams was born in the small, picturesque village of Port Isaac, located along the Atlantic coast of England. While they hold a pureblood status, the Williams are not considered a prestigious family, owning a modest amount of wealth compared to other aristocratic families. Although her parents’ jobs are not necessarily the most glamorous or influential, Chelsea grew up feeling loved and well taken care of.

Thomas Williams worked as a magical librarian, overseeing a small collection in one of the magical archives in Cornwall. Isabel Williams worked as a part-time healer in the local clinic, and on the side ran a small herbology business from their home. Her parents’ passion for their work had a great impact on Chelsea, who enjoyed reading books and helping her mum with her newest concoction. Chelsea has two younger siblings— 12-year-old Ben who was energetic and almost always got in trouble, and 7-year-old Lucy who was already showing a keen interest in magical flora. Being the eldest, Chelsea has always felt the underlying pressure to be responsible and set a good example to her siblings.

Rather than immediately attending a magical school, Thomas and Isabel decided to homeschool Chelsea for the first few years, providing instruction not only in magical but also non-magical subjects. Chelsea spent hours in the small library of their cottage, poring over both magical texts and novels alike. As she got older, her parents decided that it was time for her to experience life in a magical school. As exciting as the idea of attending Hogwarts was, the thought of being surrounded by hundreds of people she did now know filled her with unease. But at the same time, perhaps experiencing something new outside of Port Isaac could be liberating as well. It seems like only time will tell.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Roleplay Response:

Why was this castle so big?

It was bad enough that Hogwarts was massive, but the blasted staircases weren’t much help in getting to memorize the layout of her new school. Chelsea felt they did it on purpose too, moving whenever she was on a rush or wasn’t paying attention to make her lose her way.

The young girl sighed as she walked deeper in the dark corridor, purposefully keeping her steps slow, as if that would help her get less lost. From the humidity and smell she could tell that she found her way to the dungeons. She’d been here earlier today during one of her classes, but the same place shrouded in the night’s darkness felt a little more eerie. Chelsea was pretty sure that turning right on the next corner would lead her to the main corridor; from there she had more or less an idea how to get back to the main hall of the castle.

“Oof!”

Her foot caught one of the uneven cobblestones as she was about to turn, making her drop her book in surprise. Fortunately, she only stumbled a little before catching herself, holding a palm against the wall for support. Chelsea looked back, glaring at the unsuspecting stone. At least she was alone and didn’t embarrass herself. As she bent down to pick up her book, a voice echoed through the walls.

“Haven’t seen anyone else here,” Chelsea stepped out from the corner as she said this, glancing at the owner of the voice, a petite thing whose nerves she could feel even from a distance.

“What? You look like you’ve seen a ghost!” she teased, as she thumbed through her book to check for any damage from the fall.
